  • beautiful song

  • Both Spinners & Jean Carne have great versions of this song. Classics in their best!! I wish these were the kind of songs the radio stations would play. There are very few artists today that has the voice Ms Carne, Aretha, Gladys, Phyllis, Anita can come close to. I will keep playing my CD's to continue to listen & keep alive their great music.

  • BEAUTIFUL...JUST BEAUTIFUL.

  • Carn is a vocalist credited with a five octave vocal range.[1] She is recognised for her unique vocal ability and has proven herself to be a vocalist of unlimited depth and dimension.[2]

  • Jean Carne's interpretation of Wayne Shorter's Infant Eyes (on Doug Carn's album) is a master class for all singers on technique and breath control. Check it out. That's why she's an all-time favorite of mine.

  • Jean is alive and doing well

  • To my Knowledge Ms.Carn Is Very much Alive.!Let's not rush any of our Gems Outta here before their Time.

  • Just got a case of the chills when I listened to Jean's rendition of that classic. Thank you all for letting me express what i feel about this gifted woman.

  • 4 SHO......

  • Jean is very much alive

  • I had no idea Jean Carne had a whistle register vocally. And of course Jean must have been with a record label that didn't promote her the way they should have. I'm first to admit i slept on Jean Carne because so many soul singers were out at the time. I have a few interviews Jean did saved to my channel i love her positive attitude!

  • @MrCovering Yes she does. You may check out my other video 'An Array of Superb High Notes' to hear more from her. Jean has a very wide range. Thanks for your kind comment.

  • They don't lay it down like that today!

  • @MrKeithMJones I don't think it's a question of "don't", but CAN'T.

  • I must say i am 41 now and i been loving Jean for most of my life ever since my Dad used to always play her music when i was little, and even to this day i have never heard any one else sing like Jean does, she is awesome.the way she can just go from upper register to lower in a second just makes me go weak at the knees.

she is a Master of the Craft of song.

    imo.peace.

  • Jennifer Lopez can't even be in the same sentence with Jean Carne, The majority of singers today can't! J-Lo is not a singer, lol how funny!

  • @cammicty lololololol

  • @cammicty Who the hell put J-Lo and Jean in the same sentence. Lemme grab my rifle.

  • @roscoegino Thanks, I needed that laugh right now;).

  • Yes, she and Phyllis where so underrated, two great vocalist with so much emotions and depth to their voices...Unfortunately the industry didn't put they're all into these two women, but fortunately we who have found them got a chance to appreciate them...God Bless them both.

  • @broke2471 AMEN!!!!! phyllis was phenomenal, as was jean carne. im so angry these two werent exalted enough.

  • @phymanforever - Exactly, and now we're stuck listening to the crap they have on the radio these days

  • @broke2471 Yes Indeed. RIP Phyllis Hyman gone too soon and underappreciated

  • @snjones99 - YESSS SIR.

  • the spinners really bring out the emotion

in this song make you want to cry

  • They sure were, well I'm not sure if Jean is dead, is she?

  • Thankfully, NO. Jean is still alive and active. She however, only tour few moths per year and those are mostly on the Jazz scene.

  • @iriear thanks for the info! i'm going to make plans to see her!

  • @yvetteblalock , Great. Let me know how it goes.

  • No Jean is doing just fine, still singing

  • Dang!!!!!!!!!!!! She can SANG!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • If you think that Jean can "sang?" Check out Margie Joseph's song "Stop! In the name of love."

Btwn. Margie, Jean and Phyllis? GREAT and POWERFUL singers---"bet that!"

  • Lene5

    This is special. Abilene, Texas

  • This woman could really BLOW. Why that HECK I'm just now hearing Sustas sing like this. Her interpretation and execution of this song was flawless.

  • marry me!

  • WOW she really does remind me of Phyllis Hyman, especially during the chorus and the wonderful notes!!!!!!

  • i agree. reminds me of phyllis hyman so much.

  • phylis hyman and her were great friends!!!

  • Yes, Jean was also Phyllis's vocal coach! Even though only two years younger than Phyllis at the time when Phyllis arrived in the music scene Jean had already been active in her career. She was instrumental in helping Phyllis! I had the pleasure of interviewing Jean after a show once, and Phyllis was still alive at the time!

  • The original song by the Spinners is one of the greatest songs I have ever heard. Sure, this lady does a great cover, but the ORIGINAL is a CLASSIC !!!! Please don't take my word for it, go listen to it. You decide. I'm sure you will agree.

  • It's so gooooooooooooooooooooooodddddd

  • I just discovered her this week at my post office. Thank goodness I asked the clerk, "Who is this playing Phyllis Hyman?" and got corrected! How did I never know about her? Awesome full-bodied voice. That picture reminds me of Tracey Ross.

  • You go girl this is real singing I hope yal understand that this jam is slammin

  • gotta add to my favorites

  • awesomeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee song!

  • WOW! I've been missing out. She can't sing......she can SANG! It was great just anticipating her singing, hearing her for the first time, and she actually came through. Loved it.

  • my name Christopher Ross i am singer in tampa florida i would love to meet jean carne she is a gifted singer she can hit them high notes higher than any other female singer that i know off.

  • what album is this song on?

  • This was released on her 'Sweet and Wonderful' album.

  • WOW she really does remind me of Phyllis Hyman, especially during the chorus and the wonderful notes!!!!!!

  • where is the original

  • this is the first time i heard the whole song and its awesome

  • Its 2009 and I listen to Jean Carne everyday on the way home from work. She is a very, very talented singer. I love her voice & always will.

  • One of the greatest singer never to get the DESERVED credit of all time!

  • she can samg girl!!!!!!!!!!!

  • She hit that NOTE, She HIT that note! :)

  • If you thought Jean had some pipes on this cover, you should hear her earlier stuff with then-husband Doug Carn on the Black Jazz label. She really takes it to another level vocally on some of those LPs ('Infant Eyes' especially; check THAT title cut out!).

    >;-)

  • God Jean you have the voice from God I've been listening to this same song since it first came out all these years later still has the same affect on me You are amazing!

  • This is definitely the best version of this song I have ever heard. Im 28 but I have an old soul. The high notes she hit on this song is amazing. Does anybody know happened to her career?

  • Happy to say Jean is still active on the Jazz scene. She is presently living in Atlanta, and is loved in the UK so she often goes there for shows. Though she didn't get the fame as Patti and Diana coming from the late 70s and 80s, she is definitely one talented vocalist; trained in opera, jazz, gospel, soul, You can't lose off her albums, so it would be a good idea to invest in them.

  • @iriear She didn't get the fame because her music is not commercial enough. I'm glad she remained true to herself. She has done well for herself in the music business.

  • @halaluani, true words. Jean is a legend and a role model for all creative and talented artists.

  • @halaluani

I just posted a similar comment on another video..there is no compromise in her approach to a song- one of the greats.

  • TRULY truly gifted and wonderful. I have never hear her sing anything that I didnt like...sings her ass OFF

  • Is Jean Carne the "Anne Carne" on some of the early Earth Wind & Fire music?

  • Possibly, as it has been reported that she contributed to two of EWF 70s' albums.

  • nice onr ktf

  • we all become older .....

  • ..I saw Jean Carne back in New York in '86at 'Fat Tuesdays',I just got back to Earth coz she totally blew me away!

  • Back in the "old days" of the 1980's, it was a wonderful thing to go to a club and hear fantastic vocalists and musicians such as Jean Carne. She'd get right down in your face and sing to you...Keep it up Jean!

  • One of the few selective female singers who can the hairs on the back of your neck stand up. She sings which such passion and emotions and this makes the song wholely believable. Only certain singers are blessed with the vocal skills that can elicit such a response when they are singing - may you reign supreme Jean.

  • I love you Jean, I've been a fan for over 30 years. These kids have no respect that's what is wrong about this world. They celebrate trash and mediocrity and cannot appreciate, artistry, talent, diction, style. We shall see who will last 30 years.

My grandmother told me "Keep Living" and you will live, learn and experience LIFE.

  • Jean Carne is Beautiful Lady and a Great Singer

  • just came from seeing her classy and she gave a spectacular show and and i even had the pleasure of meeting her in person what class this lady has!!!

  • havent been a fan of Jean Carne for much time unfortunately but im glad ive discovered her music late better than never - she is excellent

  • Though I respect freedom of speech, I will not allow any comment that is disrespectful and does not have any relevance to the video. Please desist from personal attacks. If you do not like the artist, simply listen to artists that you like.

  • alphabunny81......you're a straight-out low-life HATER...you need to get a life SKUNK...and learn to recognize and appreciate "A TRUE MASTER" when it comes to vocal technique...style...diction...pronunciation,and everything else associated w/ dynamic singing. You(no doubt) can't carry a tune in a bucket..."SKUNK"...quit hatin SKUNK!!!

  • Jean, darling...u are a light and a voice of voices...THE REAL BITCH THAT SERVES A VOCAL...kids, just let her bask in the glory of that voice, and let the rest just STOP...she is the real deal...check ur ear drums...AND ENJOY...negativity...stops at u, baby...we love u Jean...hit the notes honey!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • what the hell are you all talking about?

    enjoy the music

She is one of a kind

relax and let he touch your soul

she is a song stylist with nary a peer

  • The Lord is my shepherd. Psalms 23.

  • Oh please. Alphabunny still dosen't have a life, karma hadn't caught up yet, it's on the way! Keep singin' Ms. Carne.

  • How's the bobbing Jean?

  • U seem to be da expert! Why don't you tell us ur tricks - U old vagabond!!! It must be cold and miserable in your rockin chair.

  • Oh please...don't tell me you got other folks actin' ignorant as hell with you or have you created yet another username..loser?

  • I swear you need a life, sending me messages of blogs about this wonderful lady. I wouldn't even waste my time reading anything that someone who has created several usernames to make themselves look relevant wrote. Again, enjoy your karma!

  • adultress/hoe.

  • What's ur prob? Maybe if Doug was taking care of biz, Jean wudn't need to go off with another. The relationship became strained after Jean left Doug jazz ensemble. So if she ran off with another, at least she ran off and not sneaking arun, like many others. Having a change of heart doesn't make u a hoe, u selfrighteous pig!

  • GREAT JOB. ILOVE U.

  • She is not ugly. How dare you? You obviously are just ignorant as hell..

  • Who the fuck are you to call somebody ugly? Oh, damn, I was talking to Brand717. However, since you must respond, if she ran off while she was still married to Doug Carn, you are talking about shit that occurred over thirty years ago. You obviously have some connection to the guy who brags about it, so take it out on him. Looks like someone needs to get a life or get paid to spend time visiting numerous pages making stupid ass comments. Don't be mad at me for telling the truth. Be BLESSED:)

  • At least she is ugly, but you are indescribable! Which planet did you drop from? From all your comments I see you are a Loser, underprivileged, bitter, grudgeful, wicked, and sick demon...I take being ugly anyday over being you. And since Jean is so ugly why it hurts you that she left her husband? And da fact dat she left him for another tells me that ugly is great...I wish I was ugly then!

  • Sorry, that reply below is for the IDIOTS below your comments..

  • nice song

  • its sounds lik the beat off boys to men end of the road..

  • Wonderful. x

  • this is a strong sounding upload! is this direct from vinyl???

  • No, it's from cd.

  • Yes Yes Yes !!! I love me some Jean Carne. Does anyone have Jeam Carne version of I"d really like to see you tonight. If you do could you please post it on the You Tube.

    Thank You

  • This is so true. 9 years, I have been a fool!!!

  • One of the BEST voices EVER.

  • i haven't heard this before, but bwoy it sweet e!!!! keep on doin what you doin

  • Gladys Knight's was awesome, but Phyliss Hymans for a woman who was vocally trained by Jean Carne, was also amazing. But Jean Carne is amazing, she used to do alot with the Jones Girls, I said this on a Spinners comment, this was the 70's Philly Soul at it's best!!!!

  • She does have a beautiful voice. Unfortunately, this is a business where a lot depends on you know.

  • Will somebody tell me why this woman is so underated? She is one fo the best that ever did it!

  • What have you been smoking? Not.

  • Thanks for posting. I've not heard this version before-just the Spinners back in the day.

  • I have one word for you (FABULOUS). I have not heard this in years. Thank you so much.
