I knew it! I can't believe I recognized your ramp and skating after all these years. Thanks for letting all us younger dudes get our first tastes of skating vert. Your skating was and always will be inspirational.
@damiensdad Thank you so much, I guess build it and they will come is in order. I always love to teach what I know... and this might just be a testamonial to that. You guys helped me as well, skating alone is never fun.
@deathcoreskater You can blame that on the dead milkmen, they contacted youtube and said I did not have the rights. So I had to do a music swap with one of youtubes allowable songs.
My 13 year old son is getting into vert skating. He says he has no desire to be a kick flipping weasel. There is hope for some of the younger kids out there now.
@ozarkcacti Vert was always my favorite, I grew up on it with the likes and skating with Tony Hawk, Lester Kasie, Lance Mountain, Billy Ruff, Niel Blender, ect. I could go on about who I use to skate with but the point is vert is the hardest to master. Street and mini ramps are nice but most that master that type of skating fail if they try and master vert after the fact.
@kawabunga66 Yeah Bro, vert is what I grew up with when I started around 1982. Now at 41 I'm back on the board with my son skating vert at the parks lol A lot of stuff comes back fast while other things will take longer. I'm just happy to grind and carve again, it's now even more of a rush than ever before!
@ozarkcacti I have a similar story, moved in with my parents after a long losing battle of owning my own boutique. I skated the whole time on the streets but never did skate transition for over 7 years, then went to the local skate park and got alot of my tricks back on the mini ramp transitions. Then skated the vert bowl at the park and yes I could skate it but only kick turning the transition. Disasters, 50/50 to fakie, grinds to fakie, on the little transition then just kick turns on vert.
@kawabunga66 No sence in waisting time. I plan to keep skating until I can no longer. I'm riding a Black Label new school deck 8.25 x 32. I like it but plan to get a old school deck soon. Nothing like a 10"+ deck in a pool or bowl! Keep ripping dude!
@jizzy2k Not sure what your comment is about but I have skated with both those skaters. Rodney is a founder of freestyle and Mark is the godfather of street, but of those two Mark is a really incredable vert skater. He went to the street after being kicked out of his local home park for stealing.
What an awesome video. Thanks for the memories. I decided a few weeks ago to try again after I saw Steve Caballero shredding a pool in his early forties (figured I have no excuse then). I bought a deck and am regaining my balance. I'm just gonna let the deck take me wherever it will. You rock, brother.
This is when skating was real The cities did not build us skateparks they tore them all down we had to skate ditches, banks steal wood in the middle of the night for ramps . the scene was great now is seems skating is too congested more like a fashion show then what it's supposed to be.
Yes this audio was from audio swap, seems dead milkmen did not like me using there song ( punk rock girl ) for the original sound track. Youtube made me change it via. a request from the original copyright owners. Funny because a lot of people wanted to know who the band was on the original, so much for free press.
If I actually still skated on a regular basis I would post more. I do have a lot of old footage sitting in storage, if I get a chance to get them I'll post some other late 80's early 90's vids, some old school pros. This ramp was in pebble beach.
looks sick man, your good too, you skated for santa cruz!?!?! they have awesome boards, I hope i might get sponsored by them in a few years thre boards are nice
I used to do that back in the day.. Drove around looking for people's ramps in their backyard. Then I built one at my house. It wasn't all about street skating back then like it is now. It was all about the vert.
i was too young...if i was a lil older i would have gone pro...But I was only like 11-12 and had to be home instead of skateing.. I was good. I had a roskopp eye deck, the year was 88-89 and Black Flag was all I cared about it,..I found a half pipe but the kids who owned it were teenagers and my foaks did not want me hanging with them...So i had my curbs..my launch ramp..then 90-91 hit and skateing was dead. all my skate buds moved and gangbanging was the new rebellion..
I remember those days skating around to different vert ramps. Now everyone just builds a little 4' ramp and calls it a halfpipe. They're fun, but don't compare to a big ramp.
can't afford one ? steal some wood off a construction site why dontcha ? Ya think my dad bought all that wood at Home Depot back in the day ? We never woulda HAD a ramp if we had to BUY all that wood. Old school Rules !!! where did you kids get allll this wood ? We found it it dad. Sheeets of plywood !
sick I hate street but I dont have a ramp cuz I cant afford one =( Im better at ramps that I am street cuz I dont like street even tho I can beat alot of people at it I enjoy vert its more natural feeling
u where really really really really good at verts looks so cool ive skated a mini in a forest it makes pretty good atmosphere u skated street or flat too?
that brings back memories. the glory years. I'm with Dave on the plastic coping. Cut in half and coutersink the screws haha. Back when 12-16 foot ramps were the norm not 50 foot wide. Thanks for the clip.
We were still using PVC for coping in'88 here in MI...pretty stupid, cuz it always broke in colder weather...by'89 it was all steel or concrete thank goodness...
hay what coast is this? east? i remember so many of those long skinny eastcoast verts when i was like 8 years old, in every back in my old nieghborhood.
