You can't spar in aikido, because it is a defensive technique. Obviously it looks scripted, because they are both trained in aikido, so they absorb the blow so they don't get hurt, which makes it look a little fake. But other videos where they have their friend help really demonstrate what it looks like because the friend doesn't know what's coming.

@ringsofredemtion you could spar but they dont.The reason it looks fake is because it is,there is no effort to resist the techs.The vids where the have some clown attack them are even more fake ,there is no efort to hurt them in the first place.Aikido is a nice pastime,its not a combat style.For a grappling system to work against real violence it has to full contact spar very often.

@billysue2 Completely agree. For a marital art to be in any way effective, you need to be able to use it on-the-fly, and scripted events like this will never ever teach that. This is not sparring - it's martial arts dancing...
