Ah yes,Monday nights at Boutwell Auditorium in Birmingham,Alabama bell times from 7:30-8:30. Sterling Brewer and timekeeper Taft Epstein at ringside! On Friday or Saturday nights they would tape live at WBMG-42 studios to set up the showdowns on Monday night! One of the VERY FEW times dad and I interacted on. Even had the winning lucky # in the program one night, got a full line steak dinner FREE,only paid for our drinks....$1.85...not bad Nick Gulas was a great promoter! Thanks for posting!
There was a wrestler in Cleveland in the 70's called Donny Fargo. He teamed with a young Greg Valentine as the Fargo Brothers. I think Donny was related to Jackie, not sure though.
@eraffel in terms of storyline, yes. Don Fargo (aka Don Kalt) wrestled under many gimmicks over the years, but his most famous was as Jackie's "brother"
Most of the old videotape was erased and reused.. hopefully whoever had this film, has more and posts it.. the match highlights were filmed and used on the show.. so maybe there is more to be found!!
Nuthouse was what Jackie called roughhouse... So Nuthouse and roughhouse are the same person. As a little boy, I watched wrestling with my Grandpa. I don't care what Vince McMahon says, wrestling owes a HUGE debt to the Greats of years gon by, and topping that list would be the Fargo brothers. Jackie is my favorite of all time.
I think when all hell would break loose in the studio they would have to get him released from the mental hosptial for one night to wrestle in memphis.
Great gimmick and great fun watching the Nuthouse and the Fabulous one himself, Jackie Fargo. Interestingly from checking different obituaries, Roughhouse's real name was Jackie.
Great stuff. I watched in the 60's and 70's, and I think it was more entertaining and less predictable than the current WWE...more doublecrosses, ambushes, etc. Thanks GShea for posting this.
oh wow, they used to let roughhouse out of the "looney bin" on holidays, or atleast that's how cornette describes, i've been waiting to see him forever.
i got to see jackie , roughhouse , and the fabs take on the moondogs and the assasians at the nashville fairgrounds back in i984..i was visiting my uncle bob(rip) who lived there and he knew i was a wrestling fanatic so he took me..that was my first time going to see wrestling and i was blown away...btw...i think vince mcmahon patterned his announcing after this guy cause he sounded just like him when he used to do it...haha

Sorry to learn that Sonny recently passed away. I saw him in person many times when I attended Mid-Atlantic wrestling matches.

A great gimmick. The fans enjoyed Roughhouse and that is what it is all about.....selling tickets.

Thanks for posting the footage. I remember reading about Roughhouse in Jerry Lawler's book, and heard a few days ago that he had passed away.
