Movies are not connected to the story in anyway. How future trunks gets his sword is still a mystery. All we know is it was crafted by an master sword maker. Present trunks doesn't uses a sword ever in the show in the intro you see him swing it at something but you never see him uses it. Again movies do not connect to the tv show in anyway there in my opinion extra story line the wanted to make changes things up a little.
The reason to that is multiple times and spaces. The future trunks that had the sword was the trunks from the future AFTER they killed cell and the androids while trunks was still a baby. Therefore the future trunks with the sword was actually this trunks you see in the movie, from the future.
Well remember after Gohan killed Cell, Trunks went back to his time, and killed the Androids and Cell. So actually this would've happened because the future was altered to where the Androids and Cell would be dead.

Future Trukns came from a diferent, lets say, future dimension, and if you pay atention that is the same sword that the Supreme Kaio-Sama, or how ever it's espelled, was trapted in. You are wrong. If you watched the episode where Trunks came to the past you should know that he has changed quite a bit of the future just by going back that first time. This didn't take place after the Cell Games Saga, this took place after the Kid Buu Saga.
Gohan was Mystic Gohan in the movie, and dead giveaway was that Goku isn't dead anymore and he can go into SSJ3 form, and if that doesn't help. Let's not forget the fact that Goten and Trunks know the fusion technique which Goku taught them.
Also the movies are all non-canon so it doesn't really matter.

Toriyama was smart enough to realize that, so its not like he made a mistake. Kid trunks getting the sword is just a symbolic way of comparing him to the future trunks, and demonstrating how is becoming the same warrior as the future trunks.

It was established in the fortune teller baba arc of the original dragonball that the dead. Are granted one full day to spend on earth they can't just simply cross over whenever they want to. In Dragon First kid trunks is given a sword identical to Future Trunks. But this would be impossible if they were trying to imply that because everyone is still alive in present trunks timeline.

The only few movies that can actually fit into the timeline is the First Broly Movie and Wrath of The Dragon. The First Broly Movie can be in the 10 days between Goku and Gohans training and the beginning of the Cell Games. The Wrath of the Dragon can be placed some time after Kid Buu's defeat

Actually this could be cannon because it is after the buu saga(SSJ3 Goku) and this is a different time line than Future Trunks Sage as been pointed out during the Android and Cell sagas so the idea can actually be place between the 5 year gap after the defeat of buu but before the party if you want to see it like that
The DBZ movies are a separate universe, Just like Cooler's Revenge where Goku transformed into a super saijin for the first time, and in Lord Slug where he transformed briefly for the first time again, or the Tree of Might where a doppleganger Saijin named Turlace inexplicably survived when supposedly only Napa, Vegeta, Raditz, and Goku were left. Or in the first Broly movie where two more saijins were alive (though they did explain how)

@22videogamer, the androids showed up six months after goku died of the heart virus, perhaps in between that and the time goku died Hirudegarn could have appeared and with the help of the Z fighters gohan defeated him and Tapion gave the sword to him. however, in later years gohan could have handed it down to Trunks when he felt his was old enough to handle it and that was how he got it.

One, if fits PERFECTLY in the actual DBZ timeline (just like Bojack Unbound did and I guess Dead Zone, though dead zone kinda conflicts with the saiyan saga the filler in the anime series acknowledged the events in the movie). Two, GT acknowledges this movie, which Akira approves of too. We can't beat that

Also not many people remember but this sword was orginally used by kid Gohangiven to him by Piccolo during the training for the saiyans, so that could be where future trunks got his sword and... well toei tried to make thier own take on where trunks got his sword... which doesn't make much sense as you pointed out.

@ariesmajor Yea he was. The time machine Cell had was Trunks'. The one Tapion had obviously wasn't. None of the movies fit into the story line. There aren't supposed to and why is it such a big deal. Just enjoy one of the best animes in the world and deal with it.

well the time line are now different as well as you can tell with the buu saga...in future trunks time line there is no buu but in this time line there is...when trunks came into the future the timelines were altered remember just like android 19 and 20 they weren't in future trunks time either.

Aside from the Dead Zone and the two tv specials History of Trunks and Bardock the Father of Goku. The rest of the dbz movies are impossible to fit into the tv series they are like you said. In their own universe so you canceled out the very question you asked.

@justinburch21 I disagree with you un Bojack Goku clearly breaks the rule of crossing over into the mortal world. It was established in the fortune teller baba arc of the original dragonball that the dead. Are granted one full day to spend on earth they can't just simply cross over whenever they want to. In Dragon First kid trunks is given a sword identical to Future Trunks. But this would be impossible if they were trying to imply that because everyone is still alive in present trunks timeline.

Hirudegarn could have never been reborn in Future Trunks timeline because in the normal timeline the Music Box could only be opened by the dragon balls and in Future Trunks time line they don't have any dragon balls since Piccolo is dead

Future trunks said himself that his timeline won't change just because he came back. Thats why he still had to kill cell and the androids when he went back. And explaining the sword. Idk? Maybe its just destiny for trunks to have one

The only few movies that can actually fit into the timeline is the First Broly Movie and Wrath of The Dragon. The First Broly Movie can be in the 10 days between Goku and Gohans training and the beginning of the Cell Games. The Wrath of the Dragon can be placed some time after Kid Buu's defeat

@Vegeto30294 your forgetting that during those 10 days between goku and gohans training they were super saiyan the entire time as apart of there training while in the broly movie there in there relaxed form and they act like cell doesnt even exist and im pretty sure if it was during the cell games cell would feel brolys power and probably would have fought him to test his newly perfect skills

Actually this could be cannon because it is after the buu saga(SSJ3 Goku) and this is a different time line than Future Trunks Sage as been pointed out during the Android and Cell sagas so the idea can actually be place between the 5 year gap after the defeat of buu but before the party if you want to see it like that

The DBZ movies are a separate universe, Just like Cooler's Revenge where Goku transformed into a super saijin for the first time, and in Lord Slug where he transformed briefly for the first time again, or the Tree of Might where a doppleganger Saijin named Turlace inexplicably survived when supposedly only Napa, Vegeta, Raditz, and Goku were left. Or in the first Broly movie where two more saijins were alive (though they did explain how)

@lonewolfryan33 Or the second broly movie where he somehow survived being punched through the chest and into a comet, and was hurled across space in a hunk of ice to land on earth, or in the world's strongest where goku knows how to use Kaioken and spirit bomb, piccolo is alive, krillin and gohan are back on earth...but Goku is not a super saijin. The movies don't apply to the series even if there is overlapping instances like freiza or Bardok.

@lonewolfryan33 If you really want to point out mistakes, how about the fact that everyone keeps saying things like "I'm the strongest in the universe" or "No one can deflect that" or "No one is faster than me" when they damn well know that there are people stronger and faster than them. Burter boasts he is the fastest in the Universe but he knew freiza was way more powerful and faster, Freiza said he was the strongest in the universe even though he knew King Cold was even more powerful still.

@22videogamer that's impossible.....because say its in future trunk's time line.....they would all be dead, they all died from the androids and goku from the heart virus when trunks was just a baby, and goten never existed......or it could be in the normal Z time line, but then it would have to be between cell and buu since goku gos SSJ 3.....but only problem with that is goku was dead that entire time....but is alive in the movie. it could be after buu also but goku was gone with Uub.

this couldnt be right by the cell games it was after the buu saga because they met videl in the buu saga and goten and trunks was born in the middle of the ending and begining of the buu saga in there and goku would be dead and gohan would be a little kid and never knew videl

@22videogamer, the androids showed up six months after goku died of the heart virus, perhaps in between that and the time goku died Hirudegarn could have appeared and with the help of the Z fighters gohan defeated him and Tapion gave the sword to him. however, in later years gohan could have handed it down to Trunks when he felt his was old enough to handle it and that was how he got it.

But seriously, it doesn't matter if the movies aren't canon, the movie is still a legit and credible source for two reasons. One, if fits PERFECTLY in the actual DBZ timeline (just like Bojack Unbound did and I guess Dead Zone, though dead zone kinda conflicts with the saiyan saga the filler in the anime series acknowledged the events in the movie). Two, GT acknowledges this movie, which Akira approves of too. We can't beat that

This takes place some time after the Buu saga not the cell saga as you mentioned.
Also not many people remember but this sword was orginally used by kid Gohangiven to him by Piccolo during the training for the saiyans, so that could be where future trunks got his sword and... well toei tried to make thier own take on where trunks got his sword... which doesn't make much sense as you pointed out.
