If you are a guitarist, rock, folk, blues, country, classical or whatever, you have to love this. It is what we are all trying to do - play an involving piece of music that makes you smile or clap at the end. I just don't get 3 dislikes? Someone tell me - what is there to dislike?
Two men, two wooden boxes, four hands and twelve strings. And it all adds up to this fabulous musical partnership and this wonderful rendition of La Partida. A big Hooray from Amsterdam!
When Mats Norrefalk and I recorded the CD "4Hands" we included a version for sopranoguitar and an ordinary nylonstring guitar that I made uo, based on the recording I can't find anymore.
In the second part the queena was playing eights in 6/8 like "b1 a1 b b1 a1 b :||: a1 g1 b a1 g1 b:||: g1 f#1 b g1 f31 b :|| and so on. At the same time two guitars played the melody we use in octaves.
In an a venezuelan folklorerecording the melody run much slower, in furths and halfnotes. Auther anonymuos.
The story about my life with La Partida is as follows:
In 1968 or 89 I was asked to "do some Sout American stuff" in some event. Now I have forgotten what it was all about. As i didn't own a recordplayer then, I visited a friend who had a such plus a number of Andian musicrecords, that kind of music was very popular during 68-69. After writing down the items that attracted me the most, I forgot the titles and who was playing on the LP:s I used.
Excellent work!!! but in honor of the truth, "La partida/ Venezuelan waltz", as is its complete name, is not a version, it´s an original work. The versions are the ones that are interpret in the south of the continent. The authors of letter and music of this traditional Venezuelan waltz are , C. BONET and J.P. GUIRAN, both Venezuelan.
The setting as I remember it was one queena, two guitars, one requinto, maracas and bass.
La Partida not only attracted me myself, but ev'rybodoy who was listening to it. As soon there was a fluteplayer around I had him/her to play La partida with me. I have used this tume since than and I never get tired of it. To me it has kept its vivid freshness through four decades!
I have also a sheet of music from Argentine: "Quiero Ser Tu Sombra" which contains a melody similar, but not at all entirely similar to the version I captured. (PAIS editiones musicales)
Here it is labeled as
Vals Venezolano-popular
Letra: ZULEMA ALCAYAGA
Música Recopilacion de HECTOR QUATTROMANO
(Funny, the guys name: Quattromano, we, Mats and I, call our duo Quatro Manos!)

Though this is an original composition I love the interpretation. The essence of the waltz was captured and I think it is a great piece. Great!!!
