Ehi, at mesure 7 did you try to play the E with left hand? Debussy wrote this E on the basso key... Try, you will make the crescendo and diminuendo really better :)
i think most people play it too fast... i like to have time to hear the notes, i guess, but you do it much more smoothly than most, and the light, fluttery, carefree feeling really shines through! bravo!
Great job! Doctor Gradus Ad Parnassum and Golliwogg's Cakewalk are two of my favorite movements and you played them excellently. If you switched The Snow is Dancing with Serenade for the Doll, I would've liked it even more, but hey it was a great choice of songs nonetheless. 5 stars!
Bonne continuation!
Wooow, I love how your fingers stay pretty much flat on the piano. Mine are like.. I dont know, spiders...and you make it look so easy. I loved Dr Gradus, keep playing =)
I love how Doctor Gradus isn't tooo hard and you can just go crazy and let yourself free.. unlike The snow is dancing, that one is crazy by itself and soo hard to play. You're amazing :)
because if you are 16 on youtube you cant view some videos and most have an age check, so i put myself as 20 :) we have an army section in our school so i like to see what the war is like on youtube videos
Does anybody have a video of Debussy playing snow is dancing this fast? I hear it in many videos and I hate it personally because to me it just doesn't sound like snow, and I've said this on many videos...
You're way better at piano than me though, I'd just suggest playing snow is dancing slower...more emotively...look at some videos of snow? I don't know I'm most likely the one in the wrong here. Yay for interpretive music though.
Few minutes ago i tried to play it a bit slower, I think its nice too. You can create different images. Probably you associate with snow that the snow covers all and let all dream so its more calm (sorry for bad english). But when I was recording this piece I had in mind that snowflakes rushing to the air, you know, turbulent .. "dancing"
Lio, I really liked Gradus ad Parnassum. It was just how I think it should be played (although, I also favor any good interpretation). I just say thanks for sharing these three pieces, together. Great job!
Hi Lio ^-^ You did a really good job on all of the pieces, and I like the expression in "The Snow is Dancing". It just so happens that I am also working on these three pieces, and I'll post a video response once I've mastered them (which will probably be sometime next year XP) Well done!
Hey! My fav would be The Snow Is Dancing really nicely played and all floaty like, whereas Golliwogg's Cake Walk is catchy especially at 07.20! Thanks for sharing.
i liked your version of "doctor gradus ad parnassum" ,and i would also like to congratulate you for playing "the snow is dancing",perhaps the most demanding piece of this work..
Awesome, Lio! I really like your sound, and I love Debussy, too. Lio, check measures 11 and 19 of Golliwogg's Cake Walk. The melody line is A flat, F, E flat, C, and back to E flat. Instead of the last E flat you go to A flat. Other than that, it's superb! Thanks, Lio.
Good morning, Lio. It's possible our editions are different. The 1st measure of the melody (measure 10) starts with an accented B flat. The 2nd measure of the melody (11) starts with an A flat. It's this 2nd measure that I'm looking at. You'll see it, unless we have different editions.
Interesting-- Maybe I'll send a photo of the material I'm talking about, or a brief video. I've never heard that section of melody quite the way you are playing it.
I think EmdrGreg is right, last octave of measure 11 is an Eb, while you play an Ab.I don'think it's a matter of edition. Reading mistakes just happends :-). You can also listen to the piano roll of the Children's Corner played by Debussy himself.
very well done
excellent! :)
had not heard these pieces in over 20 years
thanks for the good work

you did awesome. great job. the only thing i'd say is that you're playing The Snow is Foxtrottin'....slow it down a bit. otherwise, fantastic

Perhaps just slow the snow down. You don't want it to turn into a drizzle!

I always imagine snow being whipped up by the wind in eddies and flurries when I hear this piece. I think it should be played quite fast.

I agree that this feels too fast for snow. It also should be more free with the rhythym.
You won't find any videos of Debussy playing, he was dead in 1918...

Sorry, meant a youtube video with audio. I'm pretty sure there are audio recordings of him playing Children's Corner.
