it seems these eugenic societies and race puritiest took most of psychiatry over in 19th century. I can see dsm crashing like Enron in 1 year or 2. but this is bigger then Enron as it on the face of the planet. autism, adhd are going more mainstream it's no disease or chemical imbalance. next it will be depression. Heathcare is taking notice on DSM-5 new common disorders diagnoses. they should not be aloud to treat anyone on that rational. no proof yet claim it a mind disease. They all smirk!
@mumenschantz You think ADs are recreational, and you can't read, so yes, you're stupid. I said I'm ok with meds, not forced meds. Also, read all the comments Phoenix posted, she summed it up for me pretty well.
...What I do believe, however is that the diagnostic criteria for depression and other such mental and behavioural conditions needs to be much stricter because if somebody is 'depressed' then is 'over it' within months, then, in my opinion they were never depressed, they were just feeling upset.
...If I had a friend tell me they'd been diagnosed wirth depression and that they want to go onto medication would I advise them to do so? No I wouldn't, because medication is not the primary solution and in many cases isn't the solution at all.
...smash my head against walls, pull my hair out, scratch my face, punch myself in the head, throw things around, and this was just because of trivial matters.
Just because you have suffered abuse doesn't mean that it's affected you in the same way, because we are not all the same person.
All I know is that I am a much more stable person on my medication, do I want to be on it forever? No. Do I think Antidepressants are the correct therapy for everyone with depression? No...
And Im not worried about my credibility, I didnt mention droppin outta med school to validate me being an expert, I would rather NOT be one of those actually, as they seem to have an industry's best interests at heart and it involves money and that corrupts its ability to concern itself with keeping people either self sufficient or healthy. Fact is, there is an industry and an instution here to support. While you would like to make the focus about my personal flaws, you miss the bigger picture
Just for the record, I was also molested and raped as a child, from 4 to 6. I am definately not unsympathetic to the plight of depression, I was suicidal and self destructive most all of my life. I will be the first to admit that not everyone can walk the path I have walked to get to where I am now, shame tho coz Im not really special.
No, Cryptkeeper, I didnt trash 3 years of college on conspiracy theories. I discovered they make money off of keeping you sick. Period.
@KelticGypsy Then how come my combo of therapy, and meds has helped me so much? The goal of my therapist, and prescribing psychiatrist is to get me better mentally so I don't need meds, but sure, she's just working for the evil pharmacy companies.
@mumenschantz That's a cop out? Saying I don't have the time to explain my life story to an idiot, or that my anti-depressants don't effect the things I enjoy?
Also, recreational drugs are for fun, or make you feel high. ADs give you no such high, sensation, or feeling. You still are, and feel, sober. In fact, that you even think ADs are recreational is more than enough to invalidate any point you made or make.
Good luck trying to fix the world through youtube comments.
Well I fail to see how my doctor makes money for me when I'm on free prescriptions and I get free therapy... but hey, what would somebody who actually has mental disorders know, I mean I'm just a crazy person after all.
@RisingPhoenixPTPA I didnt say you were crazy.Im nuts myself, but in a good way, I am that way just coz its alot easier. But its chosen, and its fun.Your doctor makes money from the prescription companies every time he writes a prescription.Regardless of whether you, an HMO, or state funded financial assistance pays for it, its still paid for and the doctor still gets a commission of sorts.I used to beat my head on a wall until I would knock myself out. Response continued...
@KelticGypsy The NHS works completely differerently to privatised US health companies, the fact is I NEEDED my antidepressants in the first place, some people don't, but some people do, that's the truth.
@RisingPhoenixPTPA The REAL question must remain...if they work, why ent you happy yet? I was depressed, self harming, all the stuff. I dont take pills now, (and I did try some of them back in the day) but now, IM REALLY happy.Would you rather be happy, REALLY happy, or eternally medicated?I actually care, you seem a nice person, but you seem convinced you can only survive with these bad chemicals. And yet, you survive Im sure.But... are you happy yet?I dont know anyone on meds who is.
@RisingPhoenixPTPA Seriously, if you want to find out how to ditch the drugs, and find happiness, I would love to help you. They say 'you have a melanin lack/excess' yet not ONE clinical test do they take. If your behavior remains depressed, or manic, or whatever, they just up the dose of a pill that didnt work to begin with. If I saw ONE person take pills, get happy, and not need them anymore, I mite support it. Even supportive therapy in medicine should have SOME point where u dont need it
@RisingPhoenixPTPA I would bite myself until blood would flow. Also tried to commit suicide with a gun three times, and twice throwing myself in traffic. I have scars across my hairline rite now you can see and feel. BUT, while Im sure that shows I fit the definition of someone with a mental disorder, therapy mite have helped somewhat (tho you hafta go therapist shopping- my advice, try to find someone who is LESS crazy than you) but drugs only made me worse. Now, I am CHEMICALLY the same being
@RisingPhoenixPTPA But I have NOT ONE inclination to hurt myself, I wake up happy and without any drugs and I dotn attribute MY success to therapy, as I never really went to one and especially didnt go to one when I started getting better.I mostly discovered my ability to choose EVERY thought, emotion, and feeling.I can CHOOSE to feel how I want!! I really had the power all along, just didnt know how to use it, and mosttimes I choose joy, and gratitude.Much better than just reacting to stress.
@KelticGypsy continued... honestly, I didn't think my anti-depressant was going to help with the hair pulling (my dr said it would), but it did. anyway, I guess my point is that a drop-out is hardly an expert, and you can try to say it's all placebo affect if you want, but frankly, you don't have the credentials to back up your claims.
@KelticGypsy I agree with CryptKeeper, someone who dropped out of med school isn't someone whose opinion I'm going to trust on this subject. As a woman who has been off and on meds for help with my trichotillomania (compulsive hair pulling) and depression, I can say that the meds have genuinely been helpful. Good for you and your happy thoughts, but my obsessive behaviors are much better on meds, than they are off, and my head is much less bald for my taking them...
I would be dead if I hadn't gotten some medications to get me through the time that I was in crisis. NO, I don't want to or plan to be on them forever. But if I had just waited to "find out what would have happened" without getting some medication, I wouldn't be here. Sometimes you can be at a place where you are unable to rebuild your own self-esteem/self-worth without a little help to get started. If you say that both drugs AND therapy are bad, then what do you suggest????
@ChristaJaney I agree, the point isn't to be on them forever, just to help until you get better, until you have the right coping skills, and a more positive mindset. I didn't get help until I was 19, there was a lot built up that I am getting help for. I feel good talking to my therapist, and getting the anger out. She said she's already seeing a change, and the whole goal of meds is to help until you learn to handle life in a healthier, happier way. Some people need it, some don't
@mumenschantz Nope, I never spent a minute of my life not on A-Ds, so I'm just an apathetic zombie. Hmmm. Guess that's why I still like drawing, and video games, along with a passion for good literature, and acoustic guitars. I guess my neurophysical disorders like EDNOS, and panic disorder are just all in my head.
I don't have time to explain why my life fucked me up, but I'm sure yours wasn't as bad as you may think otherwise you would be all "just think happy thoughts."
If you haven't been raped as a child, or watched your parents and your pet be tortured to death or haven't been a victim of physical or psychological torture, then you do NOT need a shrink. If you insist on seeing one nevertheless, then you deserve to get exploited and abused. Moreover if you're a male and do it, I'd say you're GAY!
This film does not really prove that "imbalances" in the brain are not a problem, they are. It does prove that the imbalances created by drugs are more of a problem. The imbalances came from what you eat and other stresses in life. They can be rebalanced by changes to what caused them in the first place. "Get at the Roots Weight Loss Class " Testimonial:
And Crypt keeper, I was on the deans list, I dropped out third year. But you must depend on pills for your stability (would YOU say you are happy??? I can say I am happy!!) and cues from someone whose best financial interests are in keeping you coming back- and therefore not in actually healing you I pay no shrink and take no pills, but I am sure you are right. Good luck, have fun on the pills, and always do what your doctor tells you since he has helped you so much so far. Yeah right.e.e
@KelticGypsy Yes, I am happy. Now I can enjoy the things I've always loved without the crippling effects of anxiety and depression. FYI I can't have a male doctor, because of trauma from being molested, thanks.
You being on the dean's list matters how? Bravo? You trashed three years in school, and a lot of time and money because of conspiracy theories. Then came to youtube to fix the world. I'm sure you think the gov't invented dinosaurs as a way to discourage time travel too.
I dropped out of med school when I discovered the truth of medicine, and how they keep you sick to make more money off of you. Also, I am not speaking of the placebo affect as much as the power of belief. But hay, Im happy, I love my life, and I am pill free and could not be more content and stable, and I was diagnosed with all the 'biggies.' If you want to live on pills your whole life, go for it. And I had no therapy, I just figured it out for myself, and you CAN do it, Im living proof.
I don't give a damn. I don't have the luxury of being able to work with a therapist daily to work through my depression and anxiety. If it weren't for my AD meds, I would be crying over everything, suicidal, and want to hurt myself like I used to. I see an addiction as something that has a negative effect on your daily life, mine has a positive. ADHD meds, and benzos are addictive. I don't see people on the streets looking for zoloft. :/
@TehCryptKeeper As a med school drop out turned herbalist, the only reason they work is coz you believe in them. It is your belief, not the pills, that works, and if you believed in yourself as strongly as you do the pills you would not need them. I was diagnosed with severe OCD, Manic depressive (now they call it bi-polar) and even was considered borderline schizophrenic, I now take no pills and couldnt be happier, turned out it was my perspective.
@KelticGypsy Sure, I'll take the word of someone who dropped out of med school. Unless you're part of the scientific team who studies these meds, you really can't just assume everything is a placebo effect. Besides, I would need to think they were going to work before I started on them. I was completely skeptical, and didn't even know I had depression when I first started taking them for anxiety. Also, perspective is fixed by therapy, re-read my first comment concerning that.

Right, first off I think it's well funny that the one who went to med school seems to be the one talking complete shit.
Nobody is saying it's fine to give children mind altering substances, each individual case is different, because each individual is different.
Medication may not be suitable for some people, I do believe they are overprescribed and I do believe depression is definitely overdiagnosed.
But before I found the right medication for me I would lash out at my mother...
