  • Hahaha very true:) I'm a HCODA...I understood this throughfully:)

  • Wow, this was stereotyping hearing people.

  • Recently I went to the movie "The Hammer" and was astounded. All of the hearing people sat up in the front (they knew asl) so as not to be distracted by the signing going on behind them. It was my first Deaf Event so I sat in the back and every few seconds I would turn my head to see what the movement was off to my side. With the hearing community, yes, I think that we have a very strict attention system and can only focus on one thing at a time, especially when it involves hearing AND seeing.

  • Ha! So true. I do get nervous when I see deaf people chatting away while driving. I had a deaf guy in front of me swerving all around. Scary! But yea - this made me giggle.

  • I really hate it when I see comments about ASL videos not having closed captioning/subtitles - if you are that serious about learning about Deaf culture, you'll learn ASL - its the largest part of the culture.

  • i only understand bits & pieces :/

  • haha so true!!!

  • @blkbltXemo I completely agree with you. In fact, I hate the label but it's one that is considered politically acceptable as if the word deaf is a nasty word.

  • funny deafs in hearing movie theatre without cc, deaf forgot seat and easy to find his seat by recognize friends sign with each other during the movie they must be missed movie story and waste few money and time. And the hearing just sit quiet watching and understand movie. and deaf drive and text are not always effectient. not all deaf like to give out information nor the hearing people.

  • Thank you so much for your videos. I'm in the process of adopting a hearing-impaired child and your videos have helped me a lot. I'm lucky though. Gallaudet University is within driving distance and I go to the campus often to sign and chat with the college students. They have all been very supportive of me. Thanks again. :)

  • no funny V__V

  • I'm learning ASL now, so I'm only able to catch some of what he says. I caught on to the movie part. :)

  • @QueenSwagz

i'm proud of you for bettering your self, you are so in the zone when you are signing and learning to sign. keep up the great work mama swagz.

  • I used Full SEE and no ASL :(

  • I liked watching this, even though I don't understand much sign language.

  • Captions would be nice... ;) I'm not sure what he is saying at (0:18) ... as the sign for Native American (where he rubs the back of his palm) doesn't really make sense. What does that sign mean in this context?

  • @kdocki At that point he says hearing people don't share much information, rubbing the top of his hand like that signify just "surface" information meaning nothing really deep.

  • the revenge of deaf people!!!! they know the reason of existence and they explain it in sign language.... NNNOOOOOOOOOO (:

    just kidding

  • I was expecting subtitles...and when i didn't get it i realized youtube must be a pretty exciting for deaf people to communicate and share things..

  • Meet Deaf People Online

----Deafornot dot c om----, Find deaf singles in your area. Free to join. Meet someone today.

  • lol i can only understand half of his signs!

  • that true! ha ha

  • Its funny, the reason deaf people can drive like that is because they get that practice from watching close caption on the tv!! LOLZZZZZZZ

  • Happy New Year 2011! on a deaf specific dating site Deafornot dot c om, it requires members to disclose their condition upfront

  • @deafornot2 I dont understand...."condtion"

...i HOPE you re not calling being deaf a condition ;-) BC that would be VERY offensive!

  • @bellaqueen16

political correctness is a disease. Do learn that not everyone is going to treat you like some unique snowflake, so stop attaching hostility to words or their usages when offensive is obviously not being implied.

  • @plator99 ignorance is a disease also, saying words without knowing/caring who you hurt is pretty much makes you look like an asshole, and who wants to look like an asshole? who wants to hurt peoples feelings? wanting to make people feel terrible about themselves is an emotion i will never understand.

  • @Aranel1200

Ignorance is the state of being uninformed. Schadenfreude is deriving pleasure from the misfortune of others. And a common symptom of being a sociopath is lack of remorse, feelings or guilt. My good deed for the day= expanding your vocabulary :D

  • No shit they can laugh.

  • can deaf people laugh?

  • Not knowing how to sign or understand it, and even if I did, it would be Auslan, I love watching deaf people talking. I have no idea what they're saying or who they're saying it about, but it looks awesome. Especially when they're shouting and they do it faster. Love it. :)

  • For the idiots out there. the funny part is the hand and face gestures but the truth is it is a language for the people who can't hear. It's the same way languages other than your own sound funny but really it's another way of talking(visa versa for the english language.

  • We can learn deaf culture on the internet, not buying your books, why pay more when you can get it free?

  • he is showing the hearing what its like to be deaf.... just because you know he isnt actually signing doesnt disprove the truth

  • Comment removed

  • Deaf culture needs to be exposed to everyone, especially in public schools and universities. Sadly, I am finding some universities limiting their foreign language courses to just spanish also making it a required course. But the spanish speaking are not handicap, being deaf is. Back when I attended the school for the deaf in the 1960s' educators did not want the deaf to sign as they wanted them to talk.

  • So bottom line hearing people can't multi-task. :)

  • if your deaf how do you know when you fart

  • @malachaiblowers smell, and im pretty sure you can feel the gas releasing, unless your numb in ass region >.>

  • @Aranel1200 what if you farted around anouther deaf person and they didnt smell it how self contios would you have to be after that

  • hehehe love this story .... i dont know what i am going to do when i drive hua :L , i think i will never drive in my life T-T

  • Wish there were captions I'm learning ASL but don't know it well yet :(

  • @kadeekate13 i hear you. same thing for deaf people, who feel the same when they check out some clips youtube with no caption, do wish they had closed caption.

  • wish there was cations for this...can't understand nothing.

  • @InFromTheVoid, He talked about whats so difference of Hearing and Deaf, and he said Hearing basic is speaking and hearing. and Deaf is vision eye and sign lanangue. And he read book was very interesting. he Said 3 top advice of deaf cultures is When they go to Movie, a Deaf need a bathroom. Then A deaf out of bathroom and deaf got confusing where go back? So he saw hearing peoples. gossping but deaf easily find out of his 4 friends in movie with silent. He said" Hearing never talk with a deaf.

  • @Jackvijh5 You might view this differently misconstrue your view....it is more like the deaf returning to the theatre would stand scan waiting for hands to sign then he go there. Most of the times hearing don't talk or they bow heads together obvious hearing....deaf need space to sign... true most hearing people don't talk with deaf like they would with the strangers making comments of something. Very few hearing would jive with deaf

  • I really liked this. I am a CODA and it is so true. I grew up in both deaf and hearing cultures so I'm use to both, EXCEPT the driving. It still scares me LOL. The talking dosen't bother me. I do it too. The knee driving is what gets me. I also have to agree with everyone else. Texting while driving is a big no no, deaf or hearing. It's dangerous.

  • wow... I thought driving and texting was bad, I never really thought about deaf people driving with a passenger, that would be even worse! Your taking your eyes off the road and your hands off the wheel! SCARY!!!!

  • I wish i could hear.. :/

  • @cheesenub1 :( im sorry

  • Hey Toby...I am Chris' wife, Summer...I just want to say I understand what you mean about the differences in hearing and Deaf cultures...BUT...I must add that texting while driving with your knee is not only extremely DANGEROUS, but it is also ILLEGAL, reguardless if you are hearing OR Deaf. I guess if a Deaf person got a ticket for it, they could argue Deaf culture in the courtroom, but I don't think it would get you very far. ;)

  • Interesting and funny, of course. Hmmm...I will buy Deaf Culture Our Way Book online and order it! Thanks for your sharing with us. :)

  • i can only undertand a bit :(

  • Haha, very true. I am used to all of this. Both of my parents are deaf, so Im CODA. Driving with the knees are EXACTLY what the Deaf do! lol. And if we forget the keys, we use reflections into the window. Someone sees it from inside the house and then they look outside to see what it is.

Its funny when other people on the road see the Deaf driving and signing at the same time. They drive as far away from us as possible, haha. :)

  • For the people discussing on sentence structure for ASL: TIME+SUBJECT+VERB.

Basic stuff that one should know when learning ASL.

  • Those are true. Deaf and hearing cultures are very different. They have different lives to do their ways. Deaf people are easy in social level but for hearing people are difficult level in social level. Jobs, schools, communities, and etc are their level conflicts for deaf and hearing. Thats make sense.

  • Hey Text Drive still NOT SAFE. My friend deaf got accident by text be careful. I not allow text drive my car ok.

  • I wish there were subtitles. I'm interested in what he has to say, but I don't understand sign language ...

  • @TimCereja

yeah, im learning ASL myself but im only catching parts.

  • It would acttually be coat red pretty bought..well in Formal ASL

  • Yeah. I learned sign language from a friend. ASL is more like pictures, though what she taught me was more along the lines of SEE, but not quite.

  • Deaf is greatest Of made God So much many deaf people around this world plus will more deaf spread the worlds too... I am deaf too..

  • lol yeah my deaf friend startels me when shes excited she screams accidently when im right beside her trying to learn the signals....tis hard for me

  • ooh lol Lots happen to deaf people have time with other hear people not understand sign language or interested..

But me So LUCKY guy ever had free license back to me for speed ticket 56Mph by 25 Speed Zone hehehe Hello i am deaf.... Loll hahahaha

  • Ha Ha i tottaly get it

  • lol, i so understand what you are saying, i had to laugh because alot of people get scared, lol.

  • i know very little ASL, but i could understand some of what you said. I love how ASL is like storybook pictures for the hearing; a hearing person can look at someone signing and can see "pictures" of what they're talking about... I'd love to learn ASL, but I can't find a place that teaches it, my high school doesn't. Anybody know a place in North Carolina near Raleigh where ASL is taught?

  • that is good explaining,,,

    bravo

  • man i so understand what ur saying!

    ...not

  • hahahaha same here.

  • Ha! Yeah, I liked this one. We can name it "3 of the reasons I love Deaf culture." :) I remember the first time driving with Amanda and her friends...I admit, I was nervous! Better now, thanks. See you in class!

  • the CODA brothers did an exact same commentary about nearly all of this. Since they're hearing children of deaf parents, they added the VO to describe the signing and it was, indeed, freaking hilarious! It's amazing how many subtle yet significant differences there are between cultures, even within the same country.

  • Comment removed

  • lol that was so true.....

yeah, i cant read sign language

  • Can you to be become teach 'imagine Sign Laugnage Skill' A lot of interpreter can't even read sign laugauge . Someone sign make a sense. distract . Can you idea make a video . i can teach really so quickest sign laugange. but i need to learn how to draw with sign laugnage with video . if you know how ?

  • LOLLLLL .

  • I am reading these comments and don't know if it is just a coincidence or not but the majority of them seem to be missing indefinite / definite articles and prepositions. Is this a common style of writing in the deaf community? I was under the assumption that writing is universal.

  • You just have to remember that English is a Deaf person's second (or third) language and just like any other culture that uses a language other than English as it's primary language, there are going to be some inconsistencies.

  • I guess I never thought of it that way. Deaf from birth ppl don't learn to speak right away and never know what it sounds like so they have their own language that most likely doesn't use extra words. It's probably more like Mandarin where characters represent whole ideas. But not all deaf ppl are deaf from birth right? Is it a lack of remedial education in primary and secondary school? I wouldn't be surprised as ppl with perfect hearing often don't have access to a decent education.

  • omg wow. lol. I don't think it is.

  • I understand where you're coming from, my interpreter friend taught me this though... ASL is not like English; they have the same words, but if a person signed "I bought a pretty red coat" for each word, a deaf person would not understand the concept as well as if one signed "Coat my new pretty red" or " I bought coat pretty red"... from what I've learned, ASL is more of a conceptual language, like storytelling with pictures. I guess when they write, they just write what they would sign.

  • @Seaoftea English is usually not a Deaf person's primary language. You can't think in a language you don't hear and most of the words missing in the English sentences are considered superflous in ASL.

  • lol that's true and funny too. hey, i never thought about that too!!! thank you for upload!

  • i dont know ASL! can you plz have subtitles

  • U got point..Hearing and deaf has rly different culure......But u know...I know um When Hearing talk when he/she see other person talk..hearing can't say hey i'm hearing it's doesn't match but about deaf..Deaf talks and signs when other person that deaf meets curious like ask " Hey u are deaf,i'm deaf too" U know that?

    Different culture...

  • hahaha yesss!! You are right! That's true about Deaf and Hearing Culture, true and funny!

  • I have no idea what was said in this video but i am going to try and interpret by the end of my next semester. YOU DO NOT NEED ANY SUBTITLES.

  • Very good speeech again, thank you for sharing sometime I never thought about it, it is true on your three comments, very excatly that i did at movie theater and at car with text messages, and sign lang with somebody at back. I am sure there is more. please do more speech, you are GOD's gift that we need somebody like yourself here. I will keep my eye open for you. GO deafpcatoby GO LOL

  • Hey, scribbl3r . Very simple, YOU need get interpreter for help you!!! Its not required for subtitle. If u really curious abt the guy telling the story then you have get interpreter and he can explain to you what the guy talking about his story!!! Duh???

  • Comment removed

  • Wow! So true! But I feel I match some of Deaf Culture because I like to explain details and not just surface etc..nice info!

  • Oh Please ! ! !

Why not you go to a sign language class? Where? look at your local phone book for class.

99 % does not have subtitles for deaf in You Tube.. Why you whinning for subtitle ! ! ! !

  • Look here, there are those who don't appreciate being labeled as 'deaf' but we are hard of hearing because we still retain our hearing. And hearing is precious and we try to enjoy the beauty of sounds, not the 'beauty' of silence. I grew up in a musical household and do not appreciate to have some hearing being destroyed by some illness or defect. The importance to recover our hearing is as meaningful than being completely stone deaf.

  • I'm hearing, and I'm studying ASL, and I know that I'll have to work really hard just to be able to sign decently at all. But I just wanted to say that not all hearing people are assholes like nkx1 and think Deaf people are retarded... that's completely ridiculous and offensive and wrong. I think Deaf culture is wonderful and even though I can never be part of it, I'm working really hard to be better at signing. and i know others like me. i like your video!!

  • what the fucking hell? he is not mentally retarded, he is Deaf. there is a big difference; his intelligence is quite likely higher than yours if you are going around making such comments. and those "retard signs and faces," as you call them, are actually a much more logical and instinctive way of communication than they way you use. so shut your trap, ok?

  • Yes, the way you express yourself is really something to be proud of.

  • I know, thanks for the feedback!

  • @HermiaBlack amen dude amen!

  • @HermiaBlack I agree with you 100%. Whoever said these comments, must be idiots!! Thanks for your great feedback that said all...

  • @nkx1 Go burn in hell. He sign the way how we deaf people do!

  • I dont think that deaf people should not use text while driving. My friend who is deaf and got into accident ! that person used pager and throught a red traffic. not cool. No text while drive ! I am Deaf.

  • OH PLEASE ! ! ! WHY YOU GO TO LEARN SIGN LANGUAGE ?? 99 per cent does not subtiltes ! ! !

    get life ! ! ! !

  • Comment removed

  • I wish this was captioned. I am new to this and can not sign so fast

  • yes, you are right about deaf culture, but it is not shame for us, deaf! All is normal and natural! ;)

  • Deaf, not deaf.

  • Yes, that is real strong deaf culture...

One day in my work, one hearing worker asked me to take him to the car shop to pick his car after work. He can sign language pretty good because he worked with several workers. So he rode with me. I started to talk( sign language) with him. His eyes were getting bigger. He kept moving his face back and forth to make sure my car on road and not hit the cars. He was soo freaked out. I told him that deaf drivers do that all time. He was stunned ! ! Wink

  • I actually experienced the same thing. Only the other way around. I'm learning norwegian sign language to become an interpreter, and I've gotten in touch with a lot of deaf people. And my first time driving with one was terrifying. But now I've gotten used to it.

I also had almost the same experience the first time I went on a hike with deaf people. To talk whilst walking in the forest, was really hard. I almost fell several times :P

  • depend on a hearing person with ASL as a interpreter or a hearing person with a deaf parents..

    smile keep up

  • you are so right about that. I didn't think about tx while driving.. lol... my family gets concern when I do this. I drive with my leg and theya re like... HUH? lol

    Thank you for sharing.

  • I agree with u,I know it hard that Hearing not useless that deaf use sk or text ,While drive..I know..My friend her mom use sk while she drives ..

  • LOL i'm agree you!

  • Oh indeed very true !

    :D

  • LOL, You are HILARIOUS!!

Yes, its easy to find the deaf people in a theater, they are the NOISIEST group you EVER wanna be with. OMG! You haven't gone to a movie until you've gone with friends who are deaf. I recommend the experience to everyone.

One other thing I've noticed. On YOUTUBE, the deaf vlogs are the ones most likely to wish to screen replies and responses to their videos.

Most hearing vlogs let anyone reply in any way.

    Thanksso much for the laughs.

  • hi my name is gen,,i can talk and

    i can hear,but i know signlanguage

because my cousin is deaf and i have 2 friends that are deaf,i have an x bf

that is deaf and he is the main reason

that i ask my cousin and friends to teach me sign language, but her mother dont like me and she bought him to other country then i felt like, all i have learned are useless, then

i saw this guy and he is deaf,i said in

    signlanguage that i know signlanguage,

    he is now my bf

. until now we are together

  • aw! cool!

  • Guess what??????!!!!!Deaf people "can talk and everything too"! Using your voice is not "better" than using your hands....it's all "talking"...just is different!

  • I on the other hand have absolute NO idea what he is saying.

  • can we have some subtitles?? I'm interested in what he says...

  • as am I... :0) Subtitles please.. I LOVE funny!

  • Yes! Subtitles, plz!

  • yeah i asked this and i just got yelled at by a douch :[

  • Hello Scribbl3r, we are actually not yelling at you, we just got tried of somebody asking for subtitle that is all, and lot of hearing vlogs does not provide subtitles and we NEVER ask for it therefore no need to ask us, some us want to share our story and like to included subtitles that would be for both hearing and deaf people, but this story is for Deaf people who he is trying to share directly to us, we will put subtitles if we want to share both of you, I hope you would understand thanks

  • Thats true!!! Hearing person always worry when I drive. He always point at the road. I notice him, so I just igrone him. hahaha

  • i totally agree with you!

I am profoundly deaf, buh in oral world :)

i dont understand ASL buh i use my smartness to understand by expressions :)!

i only sign BSL to people who cant hear me very well.

    great video; 0x.

  • lol thats funny! =D but im hearing.. so i know asl a lot.. :P

  • Thanks for shareing !

I find many similarities as well !

    :D

  • nice :)

  • i understand.. Its true comment about this.. many advantage or disadvantage for deaf too...

  • I grew up in the oral world. I can fingerspell to beat the band, but I have no ASL proficiency. Would someone help me figure out why this is funny? I'm so lost!

  • True business! Funny too - I always wonder what hearing people think when I am driving with friends and music is cranked way up for the beat, and all of us are signing (front seat and back)! Wonder why we always have so much room around our car! lol!

  • lol so true!!!! my friend most of time are drivin me crazy when i text and drive!!! omg!! lol but i think it funny!!! :)

  • lol i agree hahaha

    but i m hard of hearing :)

  • Yeah you was right. What I did before. Thumb-up

  • yeah thats true... i have experience with my hearing friends. some of them who understands me, but most not... lol... i'm glad that you share with us. great, man!

  • Hi Toby! Yes it is obvious awareness of the deaf culture's way that I had been experience communication of the way from your explanation with three things exactly.Because I am profoundly deaf.

  • *laughing* Its so true! I remember when I first rode in a car with a Deaf friend...wow, I thought I was going to die. -yes, I'm hearing- Now? Its fine. I'm experienced to know that his driving is fine, but its fun when other hearing people get in the car-and they have NO CLUE what to expect. I sit and laugh.

  • lol, nice

  • love this!~ i'm deaf too and i have encountered those stuff before. can't stop laughing when i recalled my experience.

  • Yes, it is completely true because I agreed with you that exact way. A few hearing people thought we were very weird or insane as opposed to their culture -- Two must be different from each other - Thanks, David.

  • lol ahaha

  • that is true same as my way when im taling to on the phone sidekick3 in the while driving hehe smile.............

  • Hi. I am trying to learn ASL. Please. Can you provide an English transcript, or maybe a transcript in ASL word order?
