I fail to see how a go-around procedure is so "heroic", especially considering the plane was functioning perfectly. If a pilot can't execute a go-around in bad weather conditions, then he or she doesn't deserve an ATP license.
Now, emergencies are a completely different story.
The pilot should have aborted the landing and performed a go around much earlier than that. Instead, the pilot probably caused a bit of damage to the wing and lowered their own reputation. Cool video though.
that's not fake man, don't you watch the news. they had that clip running on every tv channel in the world. educate yourself buddy and watch the news...
They can't fly straight, the wind is crazy strong!!!
Don't say such crap when you dont know anything about it!
As I know it was a female pilot (co-pilot) who was landing, it was just about to end in a crash as you see, and the the captain takes control and lands it at the nexy try.

The pilots should be fired for flying the airplane cock-eyed. Planes should fly straight. It it was straight it wouldn't have been askew, you know. And the mains could have been planted on the numbers, reversers activated, brake, rudder, and the people would not have been phrightened.
I don't believe the pilot did anything wrong here. It is quiet apparent that the winds are incredibly strong for the duration of the approach; along with strong winds, gusts are usually also feasible... looks like when he made his 50ft call he got a strong gust, over corrected and was unable to pull it back. Although I DO believe he should have called a "go-around" a little sooner! Instead of trying to force the landing.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
he wasnt using his rudder he must be new becase the plan was brarly sideways so if he would have used rudder it would have ben ok and he saved it nice that good
this pilot makes a fout on landing, he didnt turn hes yoke to the right.when you land on crosswind, on tuchdown you must turn your yoke to the direction of crosswind and make corrections with rudder.greets
The goal when there is major cross-wind like that...you will come in tlike that but at about 100 feet you turn your airplane using rudders....but when he did the wind had blwon at the exact time of the turn......causing the plane to go down, credits to the pilot.
I don't know much about flying, but I have to give huge credit to that pilot. The pilot amazingly battled the elements to try and keep the plane from being spun completely out of control. Very brave and skilled pilot and co-pilot.
you guys shouldn't talk shit and tell them how to land cuze i bet you would fuck up the plane. it's not easy being a pilot you dumb fucks. there's cross winds, malfunctions and everything. anything can go wrong at any time.

sloppy and dangerous!!!! thats the only words for it! that pilot had absolutely no control of that aircraft! He didn't save any lives but he put a hell of a lot in danger...as a retired 757 captain i can see many near fatal mistakes in the video of this half-assed attempt at a strong cross wind landing. As for your "outstanding safety record" germany has a very small fraction of annual flights and land mass!....what are the odds kraut?
dude i bet you've never been to hamburg. that day we had extreme storms here. besides: we have a lot of annual flights. and our crash quote is a lot better then the US quote.
The storm came from the side; the pilot would have had to take another land road, but he got the wrong instruction by the Tower!! The employees of the Tower would have had to assign another land road to him on this stormy day!!
its called a rudder, it "crabs" the plane into the wind. This offsets the wind blowning the plane in the opposite direction thus the plane flys straight.
Tough landing. A pilot does have to keep the wing low on the wind side but at some point has to kick in rudder to straighten out the nose. With a jet, that poses problems with lift, air to the engine, and control. Maybe questionable decision to approach but great recovery.
Atrocious landing. When a plane is kicked straight in a severe crosswind the "into wind" wing has to be kept down to prevent it lifting. He kicked the plane straight and then had the wings level. No wonder the wing lifted. Very lucky to get away with it and he should have had his arse kicked in my opinion.
i'd be scared to death i swear. yep you're right it takes courage to make quick decision to saves number of lives in a matter of seconds only or they all die in a situation like that. scary.
What a great pilot, I mean hwo much courage does it take to make that split second decsion either put it down hard or give it the beans and throttle it ?

tsk tsk. He should realize that when he lets off from a large yaw, he'll get a high roll from the big vertical tail and large wingspan. He had a beautiful crosswind landing right up until he forgot to pre-correct for the roll.
Secondo me la pilota (donna) farebbe meglio a stare a casa a cucinare e stirare che forse fa meno danni. E' un miracolo che l'aereo non si sia spiaccicato sulla pista.
