This was the first record I ever bought with my own (pocket) money. I had to save up for about a month. The first time I played it those opening bass pedals jumped the arm off the record. I had to rest 2d on the arm to hold it down.
It was also the first record I ever broke, so a few years later I bought it on vinyl, but it never sounded as good as the 78... :)
I bought this record in 1958..My brothers and sisters thought I was crazy because they never heard anything like... LoL..This group was way ahead of it's time. It's would been considered " Psychedelic Music " in the 60's !
@potheadj the film material is actually from their TV show 'oh boy' and goes with a different song. I dug it up on the BBC archives years ago (I think it was BBC - not 100 per cent sure), and I put it to the CD track.
@Lester1Beck I bet it won't let me put a direct link on here... see, knew it wouldn't, damn. I'll PM it, and if anyone else wants it they can ask me, lol.
I purchased this record back in 1958 and my friends thought I had gone mad..lol..if I had waited and purchased it in the mid-60's it would have been called . Psychedelic Music. This record was ahead of it's time !
If Cherry Wainer wasn't on the vinyl it wasn't because she was just for decoration-check her out on other Youtube vids-the bass on this is organ pedal playing and the organ sound is pure Wainer.
I double checked it - you are indeed correct! He also appears with Cherry Wainer later, in the mid-sixties. There are quite a few Wainer/Storer videos here on Youtube.

Robinson's talent is patent. At the end of the next decade he composed the beautiful string arrangement for Nick Drake's River Man.

I had this in my collection of 45s back in 1958, I loved the great bass sound especially on our Decca stereo radiogram with it's 4 large speakers.

@Lester1Beck Benny Green wrote a hilarious piece about his time with Lord Rockingham's, have you ever read it?

@Lester1Beck And I'm sorry to inform you of the sad news that Ronnie passed away this this week at 83 at his home in Scranton, PA.
redsnapper1959 1 year ago
@Lester1Beck Not as far as I'm aware, Lester, but thanks for asking.

@Lester1Beck The bass player Ronnie Black is definitely alive and well at 82 and now residing in Pennsylvania, USA. He's also my second cousin.

Amazingly this version was a very minor US Hot 100 hit in 1958 . . . and it pre-dates their first UK hit Hoots Mon by a few months!

...so far as i was informed, the keyboard player is not on any of the vinyl, she was just added for appearance's sake...
any comments?
