I wish you had seen the land BEFORE the Oslo Accords of 1993, when there were fewer road blocks, and military checkpoints. There were the same number of 'settlements' then, but everything was open. Prior to the first Intifada breaking out in 1987, Arabs and Jews got along much better than today. There was no separation. The Jews of Hebron shopped in Arab stores. In Jerusalem Jews and Arabs mingled much more freely and openly.
