Unfortunately I don't really understand what you mean when you say that I have a much broader definition of what a hero is than the rest of the world. @artisanrox All the doofus did was shout the same one liner at police, an obvious hostile gesture with no positive impact possible. And judging from the fact that you even watch Keith Olbermann, it shows you are a brainwashed leftist to boot.
@Oren76. I support our police, but some of them are very arrogant. They belittle some of our citizens because they dont look like suburbanites. It is similar to what I am seeing the media portray the average OWS protester. I believe in nonviolence, but as the race riots in the 60s has proven that when nonviolence is met with violence overzealous activists like those who surrounded Malcolm X seek opportunity.
@ggarvin - I agree, some are very arrogant. It doesn't matter what job you have, Cop, Doctor or Soldier, you're going to have good ones and bad ones. But 300 officers against 50,000 protestors is a death sentence for officers. It's why we use the tactic of "display of overwhelming force." Im of the it cant happen here mentality, too, but your error is by believing it. It can happen here. It is happening. And when it happens to you, personally, youll wish you spoke sooner.
@ChristainSoldier1 People are tired of being abused by the establishment, and anger is a normal response for a lifetime of abuse. People are growing up and educating themselves and waking up to the abuse they have been enduring over a lifetime. This is just the beginning and the marine had balls to speak truth to power. Whats your excuse? No guts!
Unruly? Unruly would be what we saw in Italy. This is tame. Of course, I can understand why you support an official entrenchment of violence. I wouldnt be surprised if people are protesting your line of work, or youre a privately owned mouthpiece sulking the web to discredit real democracy. Maybe you havent felt the shaft of corporate america yet. I assume you are either ignorant to suffering, take schadenfreude in it, or like a hard corporate thrusting. Sell your PC. :)
Reading comments, I noticed some people saying the cops are just doing their jobs. I could have sworn at Nuremburg that following orders isnt a legitimate defense against barbarism or cruelty. If thats the case, every cop who maces and beats our fellow citizens, who tries to silence peaceful protestors is comitting assault. Criminal. If they had concern for the wellbeing of their communities, they would march with them. Civil disobedience is responsive. Now go get em.
@LiberalMoronAward What do you consider "unruly"? The fact that theres more trash on the streets from a MONTH long protest as opposed to a afternoon outing of teabaggers?
@LiberalMoronAward There are videos of protesters doing nothing and still getting sprayed. So you tell me, since you seem to be enlightened and intellectual.
Why is there the term "police brutality" if it doesn't exist? Where does the "abuse of power" phrase come from? You aren't supposed to get shot for carrying 3 Musketeer bars either. You aren't supposed to be illegally detained either. it happens.
Trying to get other people to figure out what you dont understand doesnt make you seem smart.
@Matryx You get pepper sprayed if you fail to obey the police officer if they instruct you to vacate the street and stop impeding traffic. If all you do is scream and yell at them (or defiantly stand there ignoring them) they are obligated by law to use whatever force deemed necessary (but not excessive) in order to do what they feel needs to be done. In crowd control scenarios where angry mobs are concerned, pepper spray is a useful and legal law enforcement tool.
@Matryx "shot for carrying 3 Musketeer bars either"
Didn't happen here. Nice try though to dishonestly paint the police as trigger happy murderous maniacs...and you wonder why your ilk has problems with police? You can see the hatred for authority in many of the OWS mob. Some literally say they want some form of anarchy. They are seen disobeying police and many are obviously under the influence of alcohol or narcotics. THAT will also get you arrested.
@LiberalMoronAward The shooting of the teen with the candy bar did happen in New York. They "mistook it for a weapon". Oscar Grant was shot and killed while handcuffed when the cop "mistakenly" grabbed his gun instead of his taser. Should the term "police brutality" even exist?
Since there have been thousands of arrests, you have direct knowledge of every event? You know exactly what happened in every situation across the country? How did you come across this solid evidence? Or are you assuming
@Matryx I see you like spamming your comments up. Fine, if you need to do so to feel secure in yourself. Shooting of a teen with a candy bar isn't an example of police corruption or abuse of power. It was a legit mistake. This was clearly not a case of police brutality. I strongly suggest you educate yourself on the term.
"since there have been thousands of arrests, you have direct knowledge of every event"
Of course not, and neither do you - yet YOU are claiming it is police brutality, dummy.
@LiberalMoronAward Spamming my own comments up? Youtube puts the threads you are involved in at the top so you can keep track of them. I also don't thumb myself up, those are just people agreeing with me. But if you need to think otherwise to "feel secure about yourself" it comes as no surprise.
I know what the terms mean. I was referring to abuses in general. You could get pulled over every time you are behind the wheel. Did you know that? It is police discretion. to be continued.....
@LiberalMoronAward You admitted you do not have knowledge of every arrest and I dont either so I can't claim police brutality. The difference is I have read reports and heard stories from the multiple witnesses who were THERE and seen video footage. In court it is considered "evidence" and what jurors would be basing their verdicts on.
You have no knowledge of the arrests yet YOU claim that it "isn't" police brutality. Based on what?
Curious, if they were teabaggers would you claim it then?
@Matryx "I have read reports and heard stories from the multiple witnesses"
Eyewitness testimony is unreliable, especially amongst likeminded individuals. I have seen multiple videos of actual footage of police trying to contain the situation. YOU claim that is IS police brutality, and you cited a musketeer candy bar that had nothing whatsoever to do with supporting that claim.
"if they were teabaggers"
Interesting point. When was the last time a teabagger was pepper sprayed/arrested?
Thank you Brother. Those thugs are not police officers. They are ignorant federal reserve mercenaries. Honorable police officers need to know that their hard earned money and pensions are being stolen from them, just like everybody else, and by the same mortgage -backed security fraudsters! So, do not be fooled by sleazy bribes from international thieves!
Do the right thing!
When Peaceful Revolution against tyranny becomes impossible, Violent Revolution against tyranny becomes inevitable.
They should be protecting the civil rights of the protesters. Instead they are protecting the oligarchy that plans on living on another planet once the shit hits the fan.
That man is a real American Hero, yes, with a capital H. He swire an oath to protect our constitution against foreign amd domestic enemies, and Wall Street is the definitely a domestic one. Someone give this man a fucking medal!
The actual Marine in this video, Sgt Shamar Thomas USMC. Posted his comment just after this video was uploaded. It has 79 "likes" and strangely is not top comment. His Youtube channel is ; SgtShamarThomasUSMC
why are there so many discussions on socialism anarchism? because the rich and the workings of a market system enslave and brutalize the world. now what are anarchy and communism? ideas, politics(word means of the city like cosmopolitan) ,and philosophies at least according to 99% of those you talk to , not some very specific system. and then whats really being discussed world over aint THOSE , its economic democracy. the populations of countries decides whats produced not others for them.
@kubscor And once they are unemployed and average citizens, they should identify themselves as the ones who were stepping on throats and macing those around them. Turn about it fair play.
well.. if you try that in south korea, the police will hit you very brutally immediately even if you are a girl.. it happened so many times.. and people gave up to protest..
@kubscor the OPD cops in Orlando realize it, they were reeeeally cooperative with #OCCUPYORLANDO even though we did not have a permit to march! They just told us to stay on the sidewalks and don't block the streets and they monitored us, were protective of us and public at large, even spoke with us. ALL Florida Public Employees experienced Rick Scott's 3% paycut as of July 1st, so that Florida corporations can continue corporate tax avoidance and loopholes so that they will 'create jobs' (LOL)
Hey Hangman, try backing up your claims with facts and sources. Try not to attack other people. Try defining "gowie" and using punctuation in such a manner that the rest of us can understand you. Until then, you are incomprehensible and no one will listen to you.
@sionus9 - i am sure you think 19 skinny guys with 1/2 razors did 911, crack pipe smoker....talk about a fantasy and "theory." FYI genius, the govvie committed 911 on OUR country is totally relevant to the nazi-like state we live in...So sorry you cannot comprehend all that at once.
@hangman06 Ah, insults. The sign of the desperate, grasping at straws trying to win an argument. Maybe you should just start typing in all caps next. That is sure to help you.
How exactly is this guy a hero? If he's actually part of the military then I honor that sacrifice; however, just because you're loud and get attention doesn't mean you're doing anything heroic.
@Thomastoe25 The only thiing I see cops do is give out speeding tickets and seat belt fines... all the drug houses, that are well known in the area, are never visited by the cops. All the drug hot spots are avoided 99% of the time.
The cops are corporate puppets, which is why they too are raising money from law abiding citizens... they are part of the system that is raping the middle classes...
They do not serve and protect the citizens... only the corporate masters.
@Thomastoe25 I guess, your father never argued with you, in that case... it's a shame your father never taught you to think objectively... the society, where we respect the police has been destroyed by the corrupting force of corporations.
If the police was not busy hastling law abiding citizens for money or preventing free speech, I could understand where you come from.
It's a shame you don't recognize that corruption is a very real and evil force that needs neautring...
@HeelOnMe Maybe you should check how much these guys make. Definately puts them in the 99%. And I am sure you would cry if you needed them and they weren't there.
@Toddinfantry You talk about the old police force... the current police force has been turned into a joke by the corporations.
The current force spends most of its time, trying to come up with scams to rob law abidiing citizens of money - speed cameras, traffice fines, seat belt fines, speeding... these are there only focus these days.
If there is a real crime - they avoid it like the plague... they do NOTHING about drug dealers etc. No money in it for them... they are turning into crooks.
Oh I get it, if you're a puny little college student you get thrown on the ground and arrested, but if you're a giant Marine, oh, well, THEN they leave your freedom to peacefully assemble intact. Why do giant angry Marines get special treatment?
Whatever, you can get a fatigue top at the Salvation Army. The officers have a job to do, just like the military. They have to protect the rights of the property owners as well as the people who protest. When the police give a lawful order asking people to move on and off others property, and these so called "patriots" decide to resist and combat the police, the police have every right in the world to do what is needed to go home safely. There's a difference between lawful assembly and anarchy.
@oren76 Lol so you're saying what is happening all over the world is anarchy? People peacefully assembling and holding a democratic general assembly each night and voting on an agenda is anarchy? Damn, when did they change the definition of anarchy?
You're a POS if you think he's faking. And either way he is right.
@chrisz They changed the definition of anarchy when it was twisted to mean lawless violence. Anarchy is actually the opposite of hierarchy. The lack of power structures used to normalize violence. Which is why the word has been given a bad name. Those at the top don't want the peasants believing it's possible to live without hierarchy. Because then the kings will lose their throne.
@chrisz ironic ain't it, gun-toting cross-haired 'tea partiers" were spouting anarchy and the end of taxes all the time! NOW they embrace Cain's 999 Tax Plan to be taxed to death so that wealthy/corporations can have anarchy for the taxfree rich (aka Libertarianism).
Perhaps he should have stayed in the service...but exclaiming to 'joe cop' - he yells, the cops do nothing but walk away, he walks away. This gets you nowhere but 15 seconds on the nightly news.
@DavidLister6000 How wrong you are. First of all, for those of us who were NOT there, we SAW with our own eyes the THUGS in uniform parading around as a respectable police department. My husband is a cop, 34 years in service and still going, these guys HAVE NO HONOR...and finally and most importantly, this US Serviceman did what people like you can't - HE MADE HIS VOICE BE HEARD! Not only to the people that were there, but to the over TEN THOUSAND who have now watched this video.
I have just seen what real courage looks like in human form. Occupy Wall Street people, find that man and have him in every meeting you can. He SHOULD be the face of the movement. Those cops heard him and they know he speaks the truth. There is no honor in what they're doing. This is the most beautiful video to come out of Occupy Wall St. bar none.
For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in HIGH PLACES.(Ephesians 6:12)
God bless those following the TRUTH the LOVE and the PEACE.
Everyone arguing over whether or not he's actually a vet... WHO FUCKING CARES? The man is 100% correct, whether he is a vet or not. The message would be just as true coming out of the mouth of a librarian.
@sixstrings4jbo I'd be doing the same damned thing, if I were there. Only I wouldn't be wearing a uniform, I'd be in my wheelchair with my DAV cap and jacket on. Or maybe I'd use my walker. Many of us find that reprehensible. Not all of us can join the protests in person. But if I could... .
He has seen how our military is hobbled in fighting the threat over there effectively because they feel compelled to protect the local citizenry from harm. Well what about right here in America? He said it all "what honor is there in that." Well said Marine!
I don't care if he's a real marine or got his outfit from Party City, the NYPD spent the day charging the crowd with horses and running over peaceful protesters with scooters. They have caged and kettled them, maced them, berated them, beaten them with nightsticks, and have been downright sadistic and dishonorable and this man? Is a hero to me. Simply because he speaks the truth. There's no honor in what they're doing just to hold onto their quickly disappearing jobs.
@hangman06 Yes, the NYPD is exactly like the Nazis. They've killed 10's of millions of people using ethnic cleansing. You insult the millions of Jews who died at the hands of the actual Nazis by comparing the two.
@hangman06 There is nothing Nazi like with how the NYPD have acted. You're trying to make the connection for dramatic effect, and doing a poor job of it. You're clearly too young, or blind, to understand why comparing NYPD's actions to the genocidal Nazis is insulting and ridiculous.
@hangman06 While I wouldn't go as far as to compare them to Nazis, I will go as far as to compare what's being done to protesters all over the country...hell, all over the world, as complete and total fascism.
Cops should keep the peace, but instead they ensure there won't be peace. I have only seen cops committing unprovoked violence. The worst the protesters will do is take up space in a street and impede traffic. Is that really a big deal that justifies acts of violence against unarmed people? The establishment's response to these protests only underscores the need for serious change. They couldn't do more to help this movement if they all quit their jobs and became protesters.
Semper Fi, buddy - only two reasons to go to war and fight for your country says Marine General Smedley Butler..to defend your home and The Bill of Rights.
[semi off-topic] I need someone protesting on #OccupyWallStreet to hold a sign for me (and take a picture of it), extra bonus if you manage to also hold it in front of the "Forever 21" interactive billboard in Times Sq., please contact me - will pay!
Is this a pantomime? This is an embarrassment to the real revolutionary movements around the world.submissive rebellion has never accomplished anything. At the end of the day ,does anyone truly believe these protesters will be willing to up there game, stand tall and fight back??Because this is what stage two of any REAL revolution must partake in.
To those of you saying this man is a fraud, check out His video and his medals up close! Check out the pattern on his uniform! That pattern is copywritten, cannot be duplicated and cannot be sold:
I have no stance on OWS, but a real marine wouldn't wear the uniform in such a disheveled fashion. Or wear his utility uniform in public for that matter. I call BS.
@GreytMuse As a veteran myself, I have a seriously difficult time believing an NCO could possibly be ate up enough to walk around in a field uniform with a black under shirt (That isn't tucked in, no less.), an open jacket, no head gear, and wearing ribbons on the jacket that belong on a dress uniform.
@brillantesdv1 Listen, quibble about the details of his execution if you want, but he is 100% correct, and his actions give Americans faith in their institutions at a time when that is lacking. Personally, I am strongly in favor of OWS and their entire, very sophisticated experiment with direct democracy.
That doesn't mean I agree with every single thing everyone who shows up says, but it doesn't have to. As long as it stays peaceful and respectful, hey. It's much needed.
@peterbilt47@KnewWorldNoing hey he can protest all he wants. but if he is a real Marine, then uniform IS important just as much as morals. they teach you that in boot camp, and enforce it in the Fleet.
@brillantesdv1 Seriously? He's a VETERAN, meaning not active duty. Are you military, do you even have a clue as to the marine corps rules and regulations pertaining to wearing the uniform in public?
@brillantesdv1 I wore my utility Jacket yesterday. It's got my last rank held, therefore not impersonating. And the worst thing they can do is turn you in to your superior which, as a veteran I don't have. To care more about the cleanliness of the uniform shows that you have less substance in your soul than a teaspoon has depth, Judge a man by his actions, not his appearance. We are merely trying to defend the US constitution against a domestic enemy. (Our oath)
@brillantesdv1 A Marine who serves his country honorably gets to keep his uniforms. They are his and he is no longer regulated by the UCMJ or and DoD rules. He can do as he pleases. By him wearing his uniform (and I think some ribbons but the video is not clear enough to tell for sure) he is symbolizing "Hey, I am not just some shitbag kid who wants a profit sharing check". He shows that he knows how to stand up for American rights. Some USMC T-Shirt couldn't accomplish this with the same result
@brillantesdv1 A real American citizen wouldn't pay attention to what he's wearing rather what he has DONE for his country and what he is standing for...
@brillantesdv1 Your eyeballs in your brain housing unit are all gunked up from seeing too many Hollywood movies you MORAN. Uniforms tend to get a little wear and tear, that doesn't quite ever press out, from being in a COMBAT Zone like Fallajuh. And who the fuck are you? You asshole, you've got a lot of NERVE to even use the phrase 'real marine'. I bet you go through your nice little cushy Civilian life being all Squared Away all the time, don'tchya? Can't believe we fight for the likes of you.
@refink33 Sir, if you look closely you can easily tell that the gentleman has gotten a lot bigger (probably from a lot of long hours in the gym) and most likely has grown out of his uniform since he last wore it... You can see how tight it is just by looking at him. Thus I don't think he could button it... He looks professional enough for me for that matter, still defending the people of this country. God Bless this man and all of our service men and women!
@refink33 Hahaha, that's what I was thinking, too, but I haven't served, and am not gonna go lecturing somebody I have as much respect for as this guy. He's doing his country and himself proud, and I salute him. Probably incorrectly. :P
This man is a true hero...he stands up for those less strong at personal risk to himself. The police are just doing their job...but they are realizing they are the 99% and are on the wrong side of liberty when they are called in to stifle the protest. The protesters, by being peaceful and clean, have the moral high ground. As long as they stick to their principles and don't stoop to the level of the 1%'s paid talking-head media mercenaries, the police will defect to their side.
You can see clearly the attempt to incite the police into reacting to him The purpose was to get a reaction that they could film(notice the light on his face from the professional camera). This was an attempted set up to make the police look bad. Unfortunately for the plan, police just thought Mr. Thomas a nut, and ignored him.

@ramtidexvx Comparing crowd control of an unruly disruptive mob with the gas chambers of the holocaust? Damn, you guys are desperate.
LiberalMoronAward 4 months ago
@LiberalMoronAward What do you consider "unruly"? The fact that theres more trash on the streets from a MONTH long protest as opposed to a afternoon outing of teabaggers?
Matryx 4 months ago
@Matryx You don't get pepper sprayed for littering. YOU figure it out, ignoramus.
LiberalMoronAward 4 months ago
@LiberalMoronAward There are videos of protesters doing nothing and still getting sprayed. So you tell me, since you seem to be enlightened and intellectual.
Why is there the term "police brutality" if it doesn't exist? Where does the "abuse of power" phrase come from? You aren't supposed to get shot for carrying 3 Musketeer bars either. You aren't supposed to be illegally detained either. it happens.
Trying to get other people to figure out what you dont understand doesnt make you seem smart.
Matryx 4 months ago 3
@Matryx You get pepper sprayed if you fail to obey the police officer if they instruct you to vacate the street and stop impeding traffic. If all you do is scream and yell at them (or defiantly stand there ignoring them) they are obligated by law to use whatever force deemed necessary (but not excessive) in order to do what they feel needs to be done. In crowd control scenarios where angry mobs are concerned, pepper spray is a useful and legal law enforcement tool.
LiberalMoronAward 4 months ago
@Matryx "shot for carrying 3 Musketeer bars either"
Didn't happen here. Nice try though to dishonestly paint the police as trigger happy murderous maniacs...and you wonder why your ilk has problems with police? You can see the hatred for authority in many of the OWS mob. Some literally say they want some form of anarchy. They are seen disobeying police and many are obviously under the influence of alcohol or narcotics. THAT will also get you arrested.
LiberalMoronAward 4 months ago
@LiberalMoronAward The shooting of the teen with the candy bar did happen in New York. They "mistook it for a weapon". Oscar Grant was shot and killed while handcuffed when the cop "mistakenly" grabbed his gun instead of his taser. Should the term "police brutality" even exist?
Since there have been thousands of arrests, you have direct knowledge of every event? You know exactly what happened in every situation across the country? How did you come across this solid evidence? Or are you assuming
Matryx 4 months ago 2
@Matryx I see you like spamming your comments up. Fine, if you need to do so to feel secure in yourself. Shooting of a teen with a candy bar isn't an example of police corruption or abuse of power. It was a legit mistake. This was clearly not a case of police brutality. I strongly suggest you educate yourself on the term.
"since there have been thousands of arrests, you have direct knowledge of every event"
Of course not, and neither do you - yet YOU are claiming it is police brutality, dummy.
LiberalMoronAward 4 months ago
@LiberalMoronAward Spamming my own comments up? Youtube puts the threads you are involved in at the top so you can keep track of them. I also don't thumb myself up, those are just people agreeing with me. But if you need to think otherwise to "feel secure about yourself" it comes as no surprise.
I know what the terms mean. I was referring to abuses in general. You could get pulled over every time you are behind the wheel. Did you know that? It is police discretion. to be continued.....
Matryx 4 months ago
@LiberalMoronAward You admitted you do not have knowledge of every arrest and I dont either so I can't claim police brutality. The difference is I have read reports and heard stories from the multiple witnesses who were THERE and seen video footage. In court it is considered "evidence" and what jurors would be basing their verdicts on.
You have no knowledge of the arrests yet YOU claim that it "isn't" police brutality. Based on what?
Curious, if they were teabaggers would you claim it then?
Matryx 4 months ago
This has been flagged as spam show
@Matryx "I have read reports and heard stories from the multiple witnesses"
Eyewitness testimony is unreliable, especially amongst likeminded individuals. I have seen multiple videos of actual footage of police trying to contain the situation. YOU claim that is IS police brutality, and you cited a musketeer candy bar that had nothing whatsoever to do with supporting that claim.
"if they were teabaggers"
Interesting point. When was the last time a teabagger was pepper sprayed/arrested?

Whatever, you can get a fatigue top at the Salvation Army. The officers have a job to do, just like the military. They have to protect the rights of the property owners as well as the people who protest. When the police give a lawful order asking people to move on and off others property, and these so called "patriots" decide to resist and combat the police, the police have every right in the world to do what is needed to go home safely. There's a difference between lawful assembly and anarchy.

You're a POS if you think he's faking. And either way he is right.
chrisz 4 months ago 19
@chrisz They changed the definition of anarchy when it was twisted to mean lawless violence. Anarchy is actually the opposite of hierarchy. The lack of power structures used to normalize violence. Which is why the word has been given a bad name. Those at the top don't want the peasants believing it's possible to live without hierarchy. Because then the kings will lose their throne.
blueJgrrl 4 months ago 3
@chrisz ironic ain't it, gun-toting cross-haired 'tea partiers" were spouting anarchy and the end of taxes all the time! NOW they embrace Cain's 999 Tax Plan to be taxed to death so that wealthy/corporations can have anarchy for the taxfree rich (aka Libertarianism).

@brillantesdv1 A Marine who serves his country honorably gets to keep his uniforms. They are his and he is no longer regulated by the UCMJ or and DoD rules. He can do as he pleases.
