why do you have the chinese 'drawings" and the writing in letters? are they both used? and if so, when are they used and whats the difference?

the Romanized phonetic writing, "Hanyu Pinyin", is used so students learn standardized sounds for characters, no, you will not see it on signs anywhere in China.
