  • Every EMU or electric built in the early 20th Century exactly like that. This goes for Street Cars and Interurbans too.

  • My first impression was "that was me" seeing the kid in front. When I was his age, that was where I always was when we rode the "el"

  • I remember when they left revenue service in 1973.

  • Gosh! Brings back memories! I used to operate 4000 series equipment on Lake Street the years just before moving from private right of way up onto the C&NW viaduct at the Oak Park end! Still used trolley overhead west of Laramie down on the ground. As I calculated it, every month I ran 4000 cars the equivalent of going from Chicago to LA!

  • As far as the sounds go this is about as close as we'll ever get to having a historic Broad St. Subway train in Philadelphia running.

  • Or a New York R-9, B Type, D Type Ect..

  • These sound the way God intended electric trains to sound...

  • I remember seeing the 4000s on the Evanston Express and could always tell when they went by my grandmother's apartment because they sounded different from the 6000s. It wasn't until July 4, 2006 at IRM that I finally rode on them for the first time.
