thanks so much for posting these wonderful recordings!!! In the early 1970s I saw Zino Francescatti play the Brahms Violin Concerto with the BSO and Leonard Bernstein conducting. It was magnificent. This Mendelssohn recording is a real gem.
I am SO envious that you were fortunate enough to see Mr. Francescatti perform live! I do have the recording of his Brahms conducted by Bernstein and it is magnificent! (Their Sibelius is on it as well!..heavenly!..both with the LSO) I will always regret not having the opportunity to have attended one of his performances!
Yes, seeing Zino Fancescatti live when I was age 16 is one of those experiences that lasts a lifetime! Also, as a result, the Brahms Violin Concerto is my all-time favorite, and to this day I listen to it more than any other violin concerto.
Also, I should tell you, we were sitting 2 rows from the front of the stage, so it was up close and personal! I took note of his high right elbow and incredible energy!
:( If I were not such a nice person I would despise you! Just kidding! I have admired his playing since I was a young girl--quick to tell anyone that he was my favorite violinist. I've always said it was appropriate that he was the owner of the "Hart" Strad, as his playing always seemed so warm and heart rendered. I have a few, nice older Francescatti recordings on my channel.

I think that Elman, Szeryng, and Francescatti were the greatest as far as tone is concerned. Especially this guy....nothing like him. Hearing his beautiful Strad played by the present owner...its just not there. Amazing violinist.
Francescatti... Love Him!

because it was not written like that, and because you cannot hear all the notes

I guess you got something in your ear.

Thanks! Salvatore Accardo is a great player too. But of course not like the legendary Francescatti!

Accardo is just as good, but just in different areas.
