  • @bobwatters Most diesels white smoke at cold temperatures until the engine is at operating temp. Blue smoke/white smoke when the engine is warmed up is usually a sign of injector wear & its a bad thing

  • analassasins... How long a diesel engine lasts depends on how well it is maintained and how it is used on a daily basis, any type of engine can out do another given certain circumstances. Caterpillar diesels are alot closer in design to a Pstroke than a Cummins, alot of Cats use the same Hydrulic injection system and some of the injectors are interchangable. Cat and Navistar designed the system together

  • @ HOTDIESEL1 in 1994 there was the 7.3 IDI N/A, the 7.3 IDI TURBO and in 94.5 the powerstroke was also available. In 1995 there were no more IDI. Turbo was an OPTION for the idi in 93 and 94. They only became turboed to compete with the cummins and the 6.5 gm diesl. Makes good power though and when they decided to turbo they already had the POWERSTROKE in the works. the 7.3 IDI is an AWESOME motor and lasted from 88-94, which is a whole heck of a lot more then the 6.0 PSD or 6.4 PSD.

  • @towltowl I get 18mpg in pretty much all driving conditions. My Mpg had dropped pretty low because of a weeping lift pump, but i finally got the chance to replace it and now it runs good again.

  • Yes The 1993 is a turbocharged Indirect injection, Then they came out with powerstroke in 94. So the turbocharged {idi} didn't last long. ha

  • nice truck man. i have like the same one. its a 94 f250 powerstroke, its got k&n intake, 3 inch downpipe to 4 inch straight pipe (custom by me), superchips tuner. thinking about getting bigger injectors but i havent made up my mind yet. sittin at stock height with 285/75/16 bfg a/t's. also got a dana 60 solid axel up front.

    gotta love the 7.3 powerstroke

  • Dont repeat that 49% figure you will get laughed at. They dont own cummins never have, they have owned a portion (6% or so) to help get them out of the red but since sold it back. If i buy 100 shares of john deere i dont walk around claiming i own john deere. Ford did drop navistar. The 6.7l scorpion was developed by ford with the help of others. And its also not a twin turbo its a turbo with one exhaust side and two different impellers on the intake housing.

  • ford dropped navistar after they built he 6.4 powerstroke, which had a dual-sequential turbocharger system. ford built the 6.7 in house, and used a turbocharger a dual compressor wheel. fucking idiot

  • @chugnasty13 Just to be clear ford did previously own a part of CHRYSLER in the 1980s to get them out of the bankruptcy. Ford and GM both bought i believe something like 5-10% of the company (they didn't really own Chrysler they just owned stock). Both companies were required to sell back their portion by a set date and chrysler would give them the market value at that date. Although ford and gm probably did own a controlling interest, neither actually owned chrysler- much less cummins.

What was pretty much a favor to chrysler (a deal that happens in wall street often) has been turned into one of the biggest "ford owns cummins bitch" arguments ever.

  • well i dont know bout you but i have a 99 f250 7.3L TURBO DIESEL and i am gunna run it into the ground i just dont think those 6.0s are for durability maybe power but they wont go 303,762 miles problem free my 7.3 has that many miles problem free it has a 8 inch lift 40in super swampers it has a edge pogrammer and 8 inch tip with 5 goin to turbo and 150hp injectors and 2.5ton rockwell axles and i can pull most 6.0s and the new 6.4s if i was you i would keep the 7.3L

  • Your both wrong. Cummins is its own company and dodge had cummins diesels in their trucks. Ford has contracted with cummins for 2011 so your both wrong.

  • Why would ford contract with cummins? They are building their own lion diesel engines developed by blue oval for 2011 pickups, which will no longer be powerstroke/superdutys. Rumor is lion/scorpions or super chiefs. If ford contracted cummins for anything it would be for medium duty diesel, not light duty. If what you say is true, you must have some pretty top secret info cause no one else knows about it, not even ford... lol

  • They may be contracting for their medium duty trucks, seeing as how dodge rams may be powered by fiat diesels, we will see. Ford has used cummins in their bigger trucks before, but as for their light duty i just cant see how they would throw away all the research and development they put on their diesel engine.

  • Your confused. Ford and another company bought less than 10% of cummins decades ago as an investment and part of the deal was they sell them back. Ford sold their shares back a while ago. It doesnt matter who owns what shares any how, ford did it as a business venture. Just as if i bought stock in cummins, i wouldnt go around claiming that i owned them, or act like i had any rights to their engine.

  • At the moment, 99k but at that time it had about 80k. The truck hasnt been driven in 6 months on a real highway.

  • ford used to own 51.3% ownership of cummins but has recently in the last year sold their potion back to cummins. there was cummins in fords,just f650 and higher w/ allison 2000 tranny.the only reason u never saw them in f250&f350 is because dodge has a contract w/ cummins to put their motors in the trucks.because of that, the fact that ford did not see any jump in sales,and b/c they could not reverse the agreement b/t dodge&cummins they sold

  • Ford 7.3's are the best, I bought a new F-350 Back in 97' and it has 305,000 miles on it and its due for a top end at 500,000. I havent had any troble with it at all, and probably never will.

  • the idi is completely mechanical no computers no chips but a very good reliable engine just make sure its had its coolant treated for cavitation it was hard on the 7.3 idi

  • The whole kit like this costs 600. Regular mitre or curved or straight cut cost 500. If you only need the stacks and not the t pipe and the rest of the kit then its considerably cheaper.

  • 100% RIGHT dodge transmissions suck even their manual trannys suck and those aint that hard to build right the cummins can make more power but then the dodges tranny will fail and the 7.3L TURBO DIESEL will go forever mine has 303,762 problem free miles but i did put a heavy duty tranny in it and t case cause i am pullin 40in super swampers and it has 2.5ton rockwell axles so the drive train had to be beefed up a lot but it is a beast

  • @nemoleyos14 lol last longer than a cummins hahahahahaha i know a guy who has 780,000 on a 12v and not rebuilt and i know a guy who has a 7.3 powerstroke and it quit at about 500,000 and he changed the oil every 3 to 5,000 miles and took great care of it, and inline six will last longer than any v8 ever will the v8 has 50% more moving parts than an inline six, why do you think the stopped putting that 7.3 international v8 in combines and tractors and went to a inline six the last longer

  • @mooseoftoose The E40Ds are about on par with 48re's. Ive seen one go to 400,000 before rebuild and it lived a hard life. However, neither of these stack up to the 6.0 transmissions or the allison 6 speeds. A SCT tuner will also tune the trans on a 6.0 and make it hold up to more than I would have believed without seeing.

  • Yea look at my other vids i have a cummins, and it is pretty fast but modified. If you do your research, year for year ford has had the fastest stock pickup until the 08 model, now chevy has the fastest stock truck and dodge still comes in third. My ford stock will still smoke a stock dodge all the way up to an 03 model.

  • Ford doesnt own any of cummins, stop repeating bad information. Besides, 51% is an outrageous amount. That would mean ford could control the company in a sense. Even before GM sold their controlling interest in the company isuzu that manufactures the duramax, they only owned 7%.
