the music, composition, lyric everything is fantastic individually. but fitting the english lyric in a typical Indian classical tune is weird!!!! no offense.
The musical influences in this piece are really interesting to my ears. Sung in English but with the traditional instruments and vocal style of Indian Raga... the harmony and melody as well as some of the accompaniment are reminiscent of a Chinese pop song, as well as the lyrics... but the song is make religious by inserting Krishna. If you feel like searching and experimenting, check out some traditional Thai fingerbell music, Kataro (a mix of new age synths and traditional Japanese instruments), Joey Boy (Asian hip hop combining funk, R&B and Thai music). That's just a few suggestions. Because Eastern music is based on semi-tones instead of whole and half tones it has notes that don't exist in Western music and tends to have a very hypnotic quality. Hope you enjoy my suggestions

When you hear Hare Krishna devotees from the West, they tend to stick to Western vocals and melody... unless they are really skilled enough to go Indian style all the way, lol.

just think how many things are "weird used"... aircraft were not designed exactlly to drop bombs into your neighbours (but they do); many drugs and medicins are designed to save our lifes, but sometimes they can kill people;; and so on...This song would be really "weird" if was sung by a dog, by a lion, by an eagle...not by human...Human beeing are free to express himself with any music and tongue, with or without accent,
with or without someone´s oppinion :)

No, there is no Hindi version of this song, it was meant to be in english, since this song was a collaboration with George Harisson, the album was signed to the beatles record label.
the other version is more western (with additional western instruments)
i really think George Harrison made Ravi Shankar and hindu music more popular to the rest of the world,and that's why the lyrics were in english (i guess)
