I only just saw this Tuesday. I knew this song was going to be pretty in French. It actually took me half the movie to realise they were saying La Siene and not Lesson. My friends kept looking at each other like: "Why do they keep saying Lesson? It doesn't make sense." Then it hit me: "DUH! They're saying La Siene not Lesson! The Siene is a river, OMG!! How did I miss that?!" Yes, it was a perfect picture of failing at life. But thank you for posting this with literal translations!
@FuneralRoses If you think you failed at that, I thought it was "listen" and then "the sun" in the bridge (thinking, "well these are some random lyrics") – the film made a lot more sense when, on coming home, I tried looking for the songs on YouTube and saw what the title is. And that's despite it being said later in the film and in the ending credits… But I did get the reference to -M-'s hairstyle! That makes up for my shocking lack of basic knowledge of the French capital, right?
When the monster starts to sing, he doesn't say "Extralucide" but "Extra Lucille" to refer to her name, so I guess there is no translation for that :)
@Mattscoots2012 The english version isn't a direct translation of the the french. They had to change some of the words is the english version to make it match the rhythm and so on and so forth. The film is still epic though! :)
I have a new found love of french movies and singing. Thank you. La Seine is a very pretty song that is catchy and upbeat I have played it several times as I have been working. Thank you.
Just saw the movie! AMAZING! Hey for all of those people who keep assuming it's the wrong lyrics. The song doesn't translate to the exact French song, it's just the English version of the song. So it won't be word by word, it's just different lyrics, so that it matches the rhythm in both version. Francoeur is the most adorable flea you'll ever see <:
@Smallsthehero: if I may comment on your translation too, you missed some points in the secound verse.
Here, it's no question about "extralucide" (i.e. clairvoyant as you suggested in your translation) but of "extra-Lucille", Lucille being the name of the female singer ;) Moreover, in this secound verse, it's not anymore question about "La Seine" (which is The Seine River which flows through Paris) but instead about "la scène", that is "the scene" or "the stade" where Lucille performs her show
:P lol paris is such an awesome city, I like it so much more than London. I can't quite imagine anyone would (or could) write a song like this about the thames!
@DarkWolfClaw5 Actually je is usually followed by an action like je joue (i play) or j'ecoute (I listen).
Although you are correct in saying the translation is 'The Seine and me', but in order for it to work grammatically in English it's changed to 'The Seine and I'
@bowl921 "La" isn't an English word, it translates as "the". And you're thinking of the dubbed lyrics. There's a difference between dubs and literal translations. The dub matches up with the tune of the song, therefore the words aren't going to be the exact same.
@bowl921 If, and when you are trying to be the smart one be sure that you really are. The correct translation is: I don't know don't now, don't now why. (Je ne sais ne sais, ne sais pas pourquoi).

Technically.. Wouldn't "Je ne sais, ne sais, ne sais pas pourquoi" mean I don't know, don't know, don't know why not (or do not know why, don't know why)? Because sais is "to know"..
I love how Francoeur has such a high pitch(I'm not sure how to put it correctly) for a singing voice. It's kind of refreshing, especially for a tall character XD
@labigbossXD yes! the lyrics are simple enough for even a person like me (who only learned french in high school) to be able to understand, while at the same time allowing for us to take in the amazingly beautiful voices and meaning of the original singers. His voices is simply breathtaking!
There is some mistakes in the subtitles, but there's a lot of double meanings, this song is hard to translate. I was wondering how they could do in the english version x)
It's not "Clairvoyant" (extra-lucide in French) but just "extra Lucille" it's a pun on word with lucide/ Lucile. "When you are on the scene" and not "Seine" this time (pun on ord with Seine and scène).
If you like this song you should listen to M, he's a French singer, he's doing Francoeur's voice in the movie :3
@jolizelle The movie is sorprise to me. I simply adore the monster. So warm person, human and friendly. Do we make difference between poor and rich regarding their look? Or else? Between human and animals? The biggest animal is so called human beeing. I vote for animals, allways.
@jolizelle Oooh, it's a pun... I get it! Just when I was thinking "ok, it's a great song musically, but they really could've make it more substantial, if it's so important" you showed me a whole new level to it! Now that I get it, it's even more fantastic! :D And all the people chanting "French version's better!" are even more right ^^ So now you know, native-English-speakers, how it feels to have the translated version, HA!
Thanks for the subs, Smallsthehero! and for clarifications, joizelle :)
this is a beautiful song my french teacher showed this to us and i just keep coming back to it...her voice is so haunting and its so beautiful in french i cant wait to see it!!!
This movie looks so beautiful! I can't wait to get to my hands on this. The beauty is enhanced by a beautiful language, French and I don't want to see it Dubbed, s'il vous plait!
elle sort de son lit tellement sure d'elle la Seine, la Seine, la Seine tellement jolie elle m'ensorcelle la Seine, la Seine, la Seine extralucide la lune est sur la Seine, la Seine, la Seine tu n'est pas seul Paris est sous la Seine, la Seine, la Seine je ne sais, ne sais, ne sais pas pourquoi c'est comme ça, la Seine et moi je ne sais, ne sais, ne sais pas pourquoi on s'aime comme ça la seine et moi
Thank you for putting this video online to be honest I am French so I understand the words I speak English beuacoup! In short this song is magnfique and voices are very well chosen! and perfect sound design in a nutshell: Great! Green Thumb !! =)
What makes this music so beautiful is that there is a lot of play on word : for exemple "son lit" meand "her bed" but it's also the place where a river lies. Well, it's very subtle and I think only a french native speaker can understand the entire meaning of that song (or someone who speaks a very good french ^^).
My French teacher used this song to introduce us to the Seine and help us learn some new vocabulary. I love this song and really want to see the movie now.
Je ne sais, ne sais, ne sais pas pourquoi is more like I don't know, don't know, don't know why. Not "I don't know why, don't know why, don't know why" << Just sayin'.
Cette chanson est sublime... et le film magnifique ♥

at 1:11 the correct word are not "clairvoyant, when you are on the seine because in french the words are :
"EXTRA Lucile quand tu es sur la scène, la scène, la scène" NOT "extralucide, quand tu est sur la seine, la seine, la seine"
there is many play on words on this song, this is difficult, even if for a french speaker.
BoiteABruit 1 week ago
at 3:00 the correct word is "deaf" not "drunk"
"Tu n'est pas SOURD, paris est sous, la seine [...]"
NOT
"Tu n'est pas saoul, paris est sous, la seine [...]"
(I am french, It was fun to see drunk, because I heard drunk the first time I listen this music ^^)

Nice song, but I think it is hilarious that the word for "drunk" was cut out from the song!

And by the way, he says "extra Lucille", and not "extralucide".
