The sides are gona come down and you need drainage. It might be a little narrow Our sides came down to about a 45.and the balast gets washed away in a big rain because the sides are so close to the track..The top corner is what fells in if you don't have a wall to keep it up.
Hi All good points, we have been digging this right of way by hand for the past 35 years! And yes the freezing / thawing causes the sides to fall in. We then load the train cars and move the sand to fills that need more building up. The other problem we have is weeds and moss growing through the roadbed. The area is all sandy so drainage is good!
That's what we do too. We started with a cutting just wide enough for the train but are now enlarging it to have room for the spade on each side of the sleepers (ties for you). We have more trouble with the embankments softening after rain and heavy use. We usually need more fill than than available from that washed into the cuttings.
Are you sure that's not a bear ? I would rent a bobcat and get that job done in a day ???
