I started the practice academy 2 days ago, now i'm hooked. I'm in university studying computer science i might change course to game development if i think i can do the rest of the exercises.
I'm 12 in honors and going into algebra next year and I was just watching this because I was bored, thinking i would know everything because i got A's in math last year. BOY WAS I WRONG! He is so much better at explaining so I get everything within watching the video once. Thanks so much for doing this for free you are amazing and I've been studying off of these for a month now.
People you don't have to flip the reciprocal at first. If you have a negative exponent, just solve as if the exponent is positive then flip your final answer. And if your base is just a regular number to the power of a negative exponent, just solve as if the exponent is positive and put it 1 over you answer. For example 6^-2 is the same as 6^2.....6^2=36 & 6^-2=1/36
Im working in class on graphing exponentialfunctions, and i was wondering i was using 2/3 as my f(x) # and i did the 2/3^-3 problem, but when i did 2/3^-2 it just went to a reduced fraction... What am i doing wrong?
I recommend this excellent Math channel: ( Mathmatchpoint ) to everyone who wants to become good at Math. He is going to teach you Math the EASY WAY, from the basic to the advanced topics. The great thing is that his videos are categorized within playlists. It is easy to know which video to watch next. This was the least I could do for him (let others know about his videos). Thanks to him, I got 97% on my Math test.
This, and logarithms, is where I completely lost track. In early high school I used to be an Ace at math, but by the end it got so complicated that i didn't even finish my last year of high school.
idk why this wasn't sinking in as quickly in high school, cause it took me maybe........40 seconds to get here, and it took that long cause i grabbed something outta the fridge lol
could you explain why a number to a negative power is the inverse raised to that power? i've searched online, but the general message is "because that's the way it is."
Khan, you are so so great. I am a lawyer and I have forgotten my Math Fundamentals long time ago. It's like discovering it for the first time. God bless you!

I've disagreed with you so far about 0.05% of the time because I've immediately seen a quicker route, but only based on what you have taught anyway.
Yes! It's true what wanomano says; I can listen to you all day long. However, 'All Work' is no good. I am so happy to have found your work.

OnychaHazel...Zero raised to any negative power is "Undefined" because that would mean you're dividing by zero. You cannot divide by zero!
rocknrollfawn 3 years ago
so would 0 to the -1 power equal 1/0?

on a calc you would get a maths error if you tried that sum-cus i just tried it.

ThPikey 3 years ago
It is a definition that is consistent with the exponent property that (x^a)*(x^b) = x^(a+b).
2^3*2^3 =8*8 = 64 = 2^6
2*3*2^-3 = 8*1/8 = 1 = 2^(3-3) = 2^0
You can look at the exponent property videos for more info.
