my just be me but i think the reason he didnt run away is so he could keep throwing the bowl out in order to make the robot cotinuisly running back and forth to pick up the bowl traping to robot in a never ending cycle. That or im just not looking at it right.

Great atmosphere and character design. The best thing about animation is the way exaggeration of characters and their differences can really tell the story without needing any words.
