I represent a Varamgian Guard just after the year 1000.... so, very early in their creation There were mercenaries at the time who also worked the trade routes, sometimes on the same side, sometimes at odds with the guard. We have a couple guys who represent mercs, but i am a Varangian
@skallagrimm by merc i mean to distinguish from the later 'hellenized' native varangians of the 12th C onwards that wore byzantine armour abit like scaled down horseless cataphracts. because unless im mistaken the varangian guard was, in essence a semi permanent mercenary force abit like the latinkon . whoes job was guarding the emporer, thats what i mean.

your helm, especially thanks to the horsehair makes you look positively scary, thats a rus helm is it,
@elgostine the helm actually started as a later great helm, but i cut the bottom off to make it appear more like a spangenhelm, then added the horsetail plume to give that Eastern flavor.

yeah, nice sreaming and running around. next time try to fight. I reccomend you to watch some of the polish medieval teams,or maybea video from Wolin.
@sirVhailor why would we want to fight like you pathetic polocks. I like that you guys fight with steel, but you look just like the SCA in the way you fight. Oh hey, try doing this with correct armor and helmets for the Viking period too. It's a little more dificult when you try to put on a show without hurting your buddy before the next one.... oh yea, and suck my cock!
Why make another Beowulf movie? That's just filled with boring monsters and fantasy shit. Why not a viking age movie about a bunch of amoral, drunk and sadistic Norwegians going on a fun trip to Britain to plunder and kill in order to get more worldly goods and lots of unwilling tail. Be sure to cut all modern American Hollywood moralizing out of it and it would be great.
I recently had a similar idea: There are no really great Viking movies out! And I don't want them "Hollywood-ized" and all that bogus shiz, but then again, I wouldn't really want tools going "dude, I'm so viking- I just plundered my fridge!" You can only say that if you are a Viking! XD But I was thinking of making a movie that takes place in Miklaagard(spelling) aka Constantinople, and it's about the Varangians in the Byzantine army!
And also, It could be like an action movie, with the Varangians in battle, and there could also be a "romance" part of it-bring some females to the Viking world ;) - like the Varangian guardsman we follow in the story, falls in love with some noble girl, and its all forbidden (Because girls like what they can't have ;) ) and he's sworn to protect the family, and they live on some province of the empire, and he dies defending them - end credits, roll on the Amon Amarth.....Feel free to Head bang.
Now wait a minute, I had my ex-wife and ex-mum in law in mind for those parts....they are British afterall and wouldn't need to add the fake, hoakey accents. GRIN!!
