  • churr aye if any one knows...im maori and we have dances such as these and they are known as haka i was woundering if anyone had links to war dances of hawaii and what is the name of this dancing is it kahiko? or male hula?

  • Hawaiian martial arts is called Lua. Hula Lua is a dance that uses moves from the lua style. Some hula steps are derived from these Lua moves cuz when makahiki was celebrated in ancient times, it was a time of peace. No one could go to war, not even prepare for war. Hula was used as a way to keep the lua techniques and practice it in this off time.

hula kahiko is a modern-day term for "ancient hula"....there tons of different hula....hula pahu, hula noho, hula lua are just some to name a few.

  • thanks for point that out- not everyone knows

  • Hawaiian war dancing is caled Hula Lua or Lua. And yes this is Kahiko "Tawhito" syle of dancing. It used to be performed only by Kane in the old days =]

  • Kane Kahiko has to be the most amazing, mesmorizing dance there is!!! My jaw drops every dam time I watch!!!

  • I would like to know what they´re singing about.

    Great video!

  • If you listen to the commentary by Aunty Pua Kanehele after the performance, sheʻll explain what she liked and in that a hint to the story.

Pretty much, itʻs about the first ʻawa root that is said to come to Kauaʻi first. And the effects and uses. The underlying meaning shows you the importance of it to us, Native Hawaiians.

  • Ha'aheo No Hawaii!

  • what a muscle man lol

    nice vid

  • WOW that was awesome n beautiful!! makes me proud 2 be a polynesian, i may not be hawaiian but there are so many similarities in each of da south pacific islands, both linguistic and in dance. GO DA BROWNIES!!! lol

  • I want to learn Hula! Those men have such pride and strength of heart. No girly men on that stage! And the women are regal and powerful. Someone teach Hula in St. Louis Mo?

  • Performances while the dancers sitting down, does this have a special name? I love to watch Merry Monarch Festival. Greetings from the Netherlands.

  • that style of hula is called "hula noho"...hula meaning "dance" and noho meaning "to sit"...

i love dancing for this halau...Ka Pa Hula o Ka Lei Lehua....CHEEHOOO!!!

  • i apologize...idk if this hula really is a hula noho cuz usually hula noho is done on ur knees with ur feet tucked behind u....but i think this also incorporates hula Umauma which is the style of the hands and how it hits the body...but i am not totally sure...
