Mr. Rogers taught respect and acceptance for others, affection and emotional support for children, peaceful resolution of disagreements, development of imagination, and non-destructive methods for exploring feelings.
Maybe teaching children that they are special does nothing to further ambition or development of work ethic or career-oriented skills, but when children are devoid of a sense of validity and security in themselves, THEY TAKE IT OUT ON OTHERS!! Who else do we see doing that, now?

I think you might be missing a bigger issue here. I think this is an on going concerted effort to discredit intellectualism and intellectual programing such as that which is seen on PBS. If FOX can continue to chip away at the credibility of intelligent programming, wherever it may reside, their agenda is easier to promote. Now bashing Mr. Rogers may seem harmless, even funny, but if you look at the bigger picture Mr. Rogers is a well respected program
on an intellect driven network, a network who's ideologies routinely come up against and get in the way of the nonsense that Fox Media tries to promote. PBS has long been a proponent of environmental causes, responsible journalism and has been on the cutting edge of science and technology, all of which go against the fundamental interests of Fox medias corporate backed agenda, which is to make the viewer easier to manipulate.
If you can successfully dumb-down the populace, they are more likely to vote AGAINST their own best interests. The best way to accomplish this is to discredit the institutions we hold as sound and reasonable. Again I say attacking Mr. Rogers may seem harmless, but if you see Mr. R and Sesame Street as cornerstones of their educational programming and you can successfully discredit a network on those fundamental programs it becomes easier to discredit them elsewhere.

If they want to blame something, they should look at the convenience of technology, bad parenting, advertising and incentive that is now consuming lives. Mr. Rogers only wanted to help children and educate them developmentally, this emphasizes peace instead of pushing them to compete.

There's been some studies that suggest telling children they ARE something gives them this impression, you're better off praising what they've worked on and learned. @ThoughtfulAtheist I find it completely ironic that they talk about personal responsibility (sort of) in the news reel, but they only pin it on the kid. They don't ever truly lay the blame on the parents. Not that I think parents are always to blame for a kid's downfall, but it's still strange.
Instead of focusing on the real issues, i.e. parents overworking, no parents at home, no guidance from parents, material goods and egos trumping family values in today's society, and so on. Is this the path Fox News is taking? I don't really watch the news, and I try to be unbiased, but blaming Mr. Rogers is just...WRONG!

To this day, I've never seen a single episode of Mr Rogers. Even as a child, I just had no interest, hence, I can't offer any substantive personal assessment.
I was however a very big BugsBunny Fan! Elmer Fud, Foghorn Leghorn!!!, Daffy, Tweetie, The Road Runner & Wil'E Cayote ... on an on
Didn't see much sesame street either ... again, in total minutes(cumulatively) less that a singel half-hour. Just not my taste as a child.

I think you might be missing a bigger issue here. I think this is an on going concerted effort to discredit intellectualism and intellectual programing such as that which is seen on PBS. If FOX can continue to chip away at the credibility of intelligent programming, wherever it may reside, their agenda is easier to promote. Now bashing Mr. Rogers may seem harmless, even funny, but if you look at the bigger picture Mr. Rogers is a well respected program

The best way to accomplish this is to discredit the institutions we hold as sound and reasonable. Again I say attacking Mr. Rogers may seem harmless, but if you see Mr. R and Sesame Street as cornerstones of their educational programming and you can successfully discredit a network on those fundamental programs it becomes easier to discredit them elsewhere.

If they want to blame something, they should look at the convenience of technology, bad parenting, advertising and incentive that is now consuming lives. Mr. Rogers only wanted to help children and educate them developmentally, this emphasizes peace instead of pushing them to compete.

Mr. Rogers is probably one of the most amazing people to ever live. He was SO interested nice and interested in people. I'm reminded of a mental floss article I read about that talked about the time he met a PBS exec and learned that his driver was to wait 2 hours outside in the car, so he invited him in and later stopped by his house to meet his family. How fucking amazing is that? He just genuinely cared.... all the time. 1 sec ago

What kids shouldn't be thought is that intelligence and ability is inborn and unchangeable. There's been some studies that suggest telling children they ARE something gives them this impression, you're better off praising what they've worked on and learned. Kids who think, intelligence say, is innate stop when something is hard assuming they've hit their limit. I don't see anything wrong in telling people they're special or unique though, they are.

Instead of focusing on the real issues, i.e. parents overworking, no parents at home, no guidance from parents, material goods and egos trumping family values in today's society, and so on. not too many people were raised the same way we were. unfortunately the narcissistic nature of the younger generations today is off the wall. Mr Rogers had one line that attributed to this. in school I was bombarded by my teachers about how special I was and that just being me was important and that I was unique.
thankfully do to great parenting I rolled my eyes at what my elementary teachers had to say and realized I was just another kid at a little school
