I probably just have a baised toward guitar/songwriters, I think they are the key reasons for many bands success. Not saying Phish is nothing without Trey just that if I had to choose, the guy that writes the licks/riffs/songs/lyrics is probably more important. But believe me I am a true fan - went to 7 concerts this summer, probably wouldve only gone to 1 if it was only Trey.
@phishinvan In Ralston's book Between A Rock And A Hard Place (read it!) there is a couple lines of song lyrics. I wondered what song they were from, so I googled them and found out about this song. Then I looked up the live 1998 video, the CD of which he was listening to while hiking to Blue John Canyon.
Judging by the fact that my comment got, like, no thumbs up, I guess not many people have done the same.
@phishinvan I bought the book the day it came out in book stores years ago. And have read it and been inspired by it for many years. I was just curious as to how he brought you here. Have you ever seen Phish live?
I feel that no other band compares to Phish. There is something about there sounds and beats that just are.........I can't even describe it sometimes. I like other bands but I love Phish.
them that are pish kicketh thou arse, i love the subdued funk in this little hamlet>>>>> cheesecake muthaphuckers! can't wait for the creek!!(i guess its verizon now) but the CREEK will never die:) they just took a little cash for a name on the stub. C-YA IN THE LOT!
@pcburgh01 haha i saw Mike play a couple summers ago and he was wearing purple jeans. i guess when you're that much of a badass you can pull that off.
@sylvestersons he's the f'n MAN! Love him - probably one of my favorite musicians of all time. I have been dating a woman who is older than me and she saw all the greats.....Marshall Tucker, Allmans, Rush. She said first of all at her first Phish show (Albany 2009 - second night - she got a kick ass show) that lol....."Trey is quite the litte guitar player" & "I have never heard a band with a bass line that was actually part of the song" MIKE RULES~
@Froebs Trey Anastasio is the most important....writes all of the music, classic riffs, one of the top guitar players of all time....you could put any talented band around him (TAB) and he would still rock phish songs, other members can't really say that about. HOWEVER, phish is not phish without gordon dropping bass bombs, fishman just being the man and the elder statesman holding down the keys.
@MrEaglez21 not too sure if you understand what you are saying. To me, a phan since the mid 90's, the entire band is equally important. The Dr. on keys, fish holding the beat, cactus killing the bass, and trey tying everything together. Classic "cant have one without the other." TAB doesnt even touch the heights of Phish, and I love TAB.
@MrEaglez21 Im confused what you disagree with. Not to bash but how can you say you are a true Phish fan if you don't equally love Mike, Page, and Jon? That's like saying "I love Zep, but they're nothing without Page" or "I love the Stones but they ain't shit without Mick" - both of those statements are false btw.
ya man i hear ya.. ive had this discussion many times... ultimately... with out fishman.. no one could fill in ... with treys lines and break downs... mikey paige and fishman are perfect for each other... doesnt matter if u bring it the best of the best... it wouldnt sound right... fishman is one of the best drummers alive.. esp to be able to follow the rhythmic breakdowns from the band.
Damn! That was the WORST Ghost Ive ever heard. Something was really fucked up with Page's Clav and he gave up and dropped to the ivories. Picked up from there.
This is my favorite Ghost of all time. Nice and mellow, with good full band involvement and a nice finish. Not too long and not too short. I've heard a lot of them. I feel like once they switched the song out of its 1997 mode for the album, the extended live versions started to drag a bit. This one is long enough that it has a nice jam, but is not so long that it gets boring. I can't get enough of the beginning, too, with its loops and the soft way Fish comes in with the drums to get it going.
Thank you SOOO much. I have been waiting for this to hit YT since it became. I can't believe it took so long. Better late than never I suppose. I missed it when it aired and have been bummed ever since about it.
I would have the 30-minute-long David Byrne Interview on Youtube, but they immediately removed it for terms of use violation after I uploaded it.... I can't see how that would be different from the show. Maybe David Byrne's got something up his ass.

Does anyone know how Trey gets those noises in the beginning? I know it's a Boomerang phrase sampler, but I don't know how he gets the squeal noise.
voodoochili12 1 year ago
@voodoochili12 Its a digital delay loop which consists of his Digitech whammy II, univibe, and the hold function of his Ibanez DM2000.

@pm2007est As a guitarist, it pains me to say I agree fully. Without a good drummer, you can't have a good band.
Except for the White Stripes.
