One time we were having a party and a guy wearing all black walked in without anyone letting him in. My dog Bindi went nuts and barked and growled at him. He was invited though, so we had to call her off, but for the rest of the time there, she would not take her eyes off him. Bindi is very smart and stupid at the same time, but she's a great dog.
An untrained dog can protect it's family. It depends on the dog. I've had two different untrained dogs protect me. A female chihuahua mix, I was holding, defended me & my purse from a wood be purse snatcher. A german wire haired pointer mix put herself between me & a vicious pitbull. Both would defend me & my family. And the dog I have now....not so much, lol, but she could surprise me like the others did.
It has been said time and again that a dog with no training will NOT protect it's family. I maintain that a dog may not protect it's owner's family without training, but it will protect it's own family. Many breeds of dog, when treated like a member of the family, and not a possession, will become fierce when a member of it's family is threatened.
I Wonder what is the breed of the Dog ! :)
