Regarding the comments on the Arturia software: What we heard there was someone who hadn't treated the sound to get the kind of tone good music needs to have, and wasn't playing music at all. All synths, hardware or software, need the sound to be suitably processed. And comparing someone demonstrating presets isn't going to be comparable with someone like Wendy Carlos playing music with her remarkable skill and sensitivity. So that was bad film compilation rather than bad software.

The VST computer game at the end of this video has absolutely nothing to do with analog synthesis. The "presets" on that Intel processor sound nothing like a Moog Circuit. If you cannot hear the difference between analog and digital circuits you will have a hard time understanding the value of each of their contributions to the world of experimental audio production. Listen to the beginning examples compared to the ending example of the Moog over and over until you can notice the difference.

@CWaldo428 Actually, it sounds like a dull vst synth inside a wet cardboard box. I can't believe people actually bother with this. A MF-101+whatever or a Rouge/MG-1/Micro/Prodigy is seriously not that expensive 2nd-hand. If you're gonna dabble in VST, why not go granular or v-modular... at least that makes some sense. This is like putting a jaguar hood ornament on your bicycle and calling it an E-type.

I was a close friend to Clara Rockmore. I also knew Bob Moog. He was indeed the most wonderful, kind, warm, brilliant, equitable man, that giant, that father of electronic music.
