  • NFX you are incredible. I've been looking for the kind of lessons you give for a long time. I'm very grateful.

  • This was the first time anyone ever explained correct melody 2me 2thumbs up

  • what is that scale?

  • "Keep jumps to a minimum"

    mmm.. La Campanella..

    just sayin..

  • WHY IN GODS NAME IS THERE A GAY LION RELATED VIDEO!??!

  • @smallpanzer It relates based on you

  • @smallpanzer sounds like a personal problem..i dont see it haha

  • good

  • Lol actually 6:23 sounded good until you hit that deep note lol

  • good idea bout going to the liquor store and a burger joint ;p

  • heey dude that jumpuing around sounded not bad XD

  • can you plz show me how to get the warbeat skin.......i really want it...

  • keep these tutorials coming

  • simple is GOOD! i like it, found this really helpful. will sub

  • Thanks man! Can't say I learned anything new, but I just really appreciate that you're trying to help others!

  • off the dome right naow!

  • i haven't even known what a scale was untill about 2 months ago, the reason ive watched your videos is because im having a severe case of producers block and i feel the reason for that is because Ive run out of influence and need to start from scratch as if i don't know ANYTHING at all even off common sense,

  • @K3YB3RAW Yo, that sounds EXACTLY like what I'm going through with making beats...Feels like I've gotten more knowledgeable and I got way more stuff to work with, but it feels like I could never use it to the best of its ability, even though I've made a ton of stuff before from influence or luck. Kinda the reason why I'm on this channel too...Glad to know it's not just me out here this is happening to.

  • @GVilleHasATV Same here lol, every single one of my songs is made from influence and luck. I do everything randomly and it seems like it always comes to a good finished product, but I want to use more than just a melody and a bass.

  • y3kbeats is right. i'm 20 years old. i got a korg TR workstation when i was 17, never had ANY piano lessons or ANYONE to teach me, never did research on MIDI or any type of basic teachings on making hip hop instrumentals. i produced and entire 18 track mixtape and i promise if anyone listened to it they would LOVE it, it doesn't sound like it came out of my moms basement lol, i made the beats strictly off of influence ( not copying) or off luck as you mentioned, i learned the rules by common ear

  • @K3YB3RAW writing hip hop beats is the easiest time of electronic music to produce, hate to say it but those melodies dont compare to EDM melodies

  • Holy modest Batman! The one who says he can't explain it, explains it better than anyone else who's tried to teach me the basics of piano. Great job, thanks for taking the time to do these tutorials. They're the best I've seen. Cheers

  • you sound like Flea

  • I hear a second voice. wtf

  • Thanks for finally showing me the significance of "fifths" ie. - from the "Circle of fifths" (which otherwise sounds like a secret society or something).

  • i can make melodys but not drums

  • You leave your house, go to the liquor store, pass by a nearby school, and end up in jail :(

  • @zawmbees

then go back home after a day or two lol

  • You leave your house, go to the liquor store, pass by a nearby school, and end up in jail

lol a very sad melody haha

  • Lol you leave the house, go to the liquor store, then go to a burger joint, then come back home LOL ;)

    Thanks :D

  • you know, you leave the house... go to the liquor store... lmfao!

  • sound bro

  • thx a lot, man!

  • Actually, since twinkle twinkle has existed for so long, and we've become accustomed the second part; only hearing the first part creates suspense, anticipation, which we don't get. This creates disappointment. But, if there was no second part originally, well, that example wouldn't have worked.

  • I like the style the information is presented. however, i really dislike the term "rules" , repitition, simplicity, catchyness, "jump size", and "coming back home" are all personal prefrences. music would be boring if there were rules to writing music. besides some of us are alittle out of tune and like to break the rules.

  • It's ridiculous that people complain about the length of a 9 minute video. Newsflash: you aren't going to learn how to be Dr. Dre by watching one 3 minute video a day for a week. Music is an art and a science. I've spent hours each day over the past month watching tuts like this and I'm only BARELY scratching the surface. The reason there are so few great musicians in this world isn't due to a lack of talent, it's due to a lack of dedication. If you want this to be your life, make it your life!

  • @radakisa Sadly

  • thank you!!!

  • can u explain how to make a trance melodies ?

  • lol anybody know where i an find a free music maker?

  • WHERE DO YOU GET THAT FL-KEYS THING??????

  • @deejayluv999

If you got FL Studio, then start it and in the menu bar, go into CHANNELS and then ADD ONE, choose FL KEYS.

  • YOUR THE BEST MATE..CHEERZZZZZZZZZ

  • @NuclearTestSubject Like Cubase or something?

  • :o

  • Do you work with other programs? It's just... You look to know all about FL, why not working with some more "advanced" programs? You seem to be professionel! And good job! I really learned alot from your videoes!

  • @DJEx1st Like what?

  • @DJEx1st FL-Studio is actually an advanced program. Boy-1-da is a grammy award winning Producer who uses FL-Studio. Regards

  • This is elementary stuff

  • @sp4zzj4zz Suck a dick!, i can and do apply my musical knowledge to any genré i like, including classical music , and as if i care what you think about me or my videos.

  • Comment removed

  • @sp4zzj4zz Uhmm first off all i grew up in the hood ie, Peckham, Southeast London home to the biggest gang in london , second off all that doesnt mean im stupid or uneducated, in fact i managed to get a fully paid scholorship to a good private school outside of my area and learned to play the piano to a grade 8 level, thats right, scales, arpeggios, chopin preludes and music theory. How does it feel to be another stupid American and probably overweight too?

  • Comment removed

  • @sp4zzj4zz You sound like an immature adolescent, i cant believe your 31 years old.End of discussion

  • @sp4zzj4zz Grow up

  • LOL!! DO A PIT STOP, GRAB A SHAWARMA AND BRING THAT MELODY BACK HOME BRO!!

  • thumbs up if u think that after he finished the video he went watching it again cuz he did a really good melody :P

  • This is essentially what gets you playing the piano. I've recently started from scratch with barely any knowledge. After learning about scales and chords I'm able to jam away in tune now. I feel silly because I could've been doing this years ago.

  • @TekLok "I feel silly because I could've been doing this years ago."

    Same here.

  • @TekLok Me too man, making a beat now and it is a whole nother level compared to my other beats, because I can get stuff sounding well together and most importantly in tune

  • Im in music theory Ap and there are actual rules this guy goes over the resoultion one the next he vaugely explains is never span more than an octave the last he again explains incomplete is that in a melody there is a motive, like 3 notes or something, that is repeated 3 times but with slight variation the last is to have what they call a hook or the part that catch this can go anywhere. if u dont trust me look at pachobells cannon in D melody its a great example.

  • This guy is funny is a monotone sort of way XD haha the liquor store, maybe go smoke some weed, hit the girl on the corner, then come home. ;)

But really helpful man! Thanks! Subscribed!

  • im sorry but the first thing you said about a journey was tha you went to the liqour store! haha xD

  • u really know how to use this program ! CHECK MY BEATS:D

  • really good tut but i disagree on not jumping too much. if you look at the most famous melodies, you'll see they go all over the place with lost of jumps. I think the jumps might be a little advanced so I understand how you want to keep it simple

  • Thank you very much, sir!

  • THANKSSSS

  • This is a wonderful tutorial. Though not complete or detailed, it is a place to start. Thanks a ton!

  • God Bless you nfxbeats you go out your way to help us so much thank you

  • @Medkipz Really CraZy Very Good JAHBless Bro

  • hit my music channel up SpeezyBeatsTUP

  • how do u expect to become a great producer if your too lazy to watch a 9 minute video??? this dude doesnt have to make these videos and drop great knowledge but he does...if u listen u will learn sumthin that'll help you to elevate you skills..if u makin trap beats u prolly never even heard of music theory and shouldve never watched this video to begin with..i been doin this for 9 years and i can assure you theres no easy way out of puttin in the WORK....and i gotta whole lot more growing to do

  • For those people who say its boring : Its a tutorial, its kinda meant to be informative, cause you know, if it wasn't then you wouldnt learn much. Nice theory though NFX!

  • These music theory tuts are actually very good, too bad I wasn't able to watch them more early, cause I could've saved some time on learning.

  • can you make a house tutorial plz?

  • The best tutorials for sure. Very good teacher IMO.

Hey I saw your Website was having problems. If you need any help let me know. I'm a developer. I'll trade ya for some samples :)

  • awesome thanks, very helpful, you are a great teacher!

  • BORING

  • thanks man...

  • Thanks for making that video, you did a pretty good job of explaining some key parts of melodies.

  • Stop bitching hes just showing you how to make a melody he doesn't have to make an example.

  • BOR-ING!

  • Thanks

  • @nfxbeats The first melody tutorial I have seen without the word techno in the title. As always all those tutorials are all the same, same techniques with the minimal amount of information, thank you for this amazing tutorial nfxbeats.

  • great advice. I think you're the best FL/ music tutorial person on youtube. Calm and patient, and very informative.

  • thanks

  • i sub

  • OMG all ur tutorial are sooooooo helpful

  • ELECTRO HOUSE FLP'S!!

    /watch?v=rE2aQAvVSwI

  • Worst analogy ever! " You go for a walk, stop at the liquor..maybe some burger joint then go home." That was funny.

  • awesome video, whats even cooler is that you explained melody exactly like my prof. taugh me to think about it! anyways all these negative haters are just ignorant (and most likely musicaly illiterate) people.

    thanks again.

  • niceeeee :) LOOK AT MY PROFIL (RIFF I MADE)

SUB ME I SOB U :)ADD ME TO :)

  • Very helpful thank you very much :D

  • you are the best!!

  • Nice tutorial very helpful but i have a doubt,Its obligatory that i have to begin and end my melody on the tonic of my scale? :)

  • Of course not, it's just a simple way to help create a melody that sounds complete, because when you hear the same note as the beginning of the song, it feels like the melody is complete.

  • thank you, extremely helpful, how do you add syllables or words to the melody, is there a formula or rule of them?

  • thank you, extremely helpful, how to you add syllables to the melody, is there a formula or rule of thumb?

  • Check out my channel for more tips on how to write chords and melodies

  • i like your videos. one thing, i find jumping around a lot of the time works for me or at least my flavor.

I have FLXXL8 and have been working on a lot of new material, I need to get some on here.

For a taste you can see my space . com /felonebeats ... it's a bunch of older beats and un finished stuff, but that's all i can give ya.

    5*

  • Thanks for the explanation, I'd never thought of it that way and found your example of a "round trip" from home to be helpful.

    Greg.

  • thanxx you man,, greetings from holland

  • finally! I've wanted to find something like this!

  • the melody when you 'jumped around' actually sounded gd lol, except the last note

  • I like the way you explain things...

  • I love FL Studio! All the tracks on my channel are made in FL Studio.

  • hey u said that in the other vid of his lol

  • @AnotherInvalidID HAHAHA! I know. I watch all his vids so I just decided to put it in every video I watched.

  • I've never heard of this Taking a Trip example. It is a good one to use.

I've been using the Question and Answer, riff motif, or copying the spoken phrase writing examples.

    Thank you

  • I think you did a really good job with this tutorial considering how abstract making melodies can be

  • lol at getting lucky with melodies, it's the same way with me brother.

  • Thank you so much. You are bringing together all my random knowledge, and I am finally starting to make sense of things.

  • Very Helpfull BIG THANKS But u make me wait to much on the beggining sry

  • GREAT EXAMPLES.

  • I dont really know any scales? What to do?

Im a guitarist, so i should really learn the blues scale, but i dont really think that scale would fit in a fl song.

  • like always, u help me a lot. tyvm again :)

  • you dont have to end on your root notes. Really it depends on your scale. If your in a major scale you usually end on any of the major 3rds. 1, 3 or the 5.

  • "off the dome right now"...yea i just get lucky with a lot of my melodies but this really helped thanks man love the tuts.

  • Thank you so much nfx this helped alot

  • I bought the orchestral samples off of fl studio. Any one know how to use those on fl studio ?

  • thanks man, you are pretty illustrious in your tutorials, and I like the "stop by at the liquor store then the burger joint..." have a great day

  • right...gotta get your liqour before the burger. lol no your right this is good. Thanks!

  • You say you didnt really know how to explain this, but your wrong, that has helped me out so much, i was struggleing alot to make melodys untill now, i never realised you had to stay on a surtain scale which is why my music always sucked. thanks alot for all these guides there great.

  • man you guys need to stop bitching. this guy has probably the most useful FL Studio tutorials on youtube.
