This song is one I will always remember from when I was a child. Its just one of those songs that really makes you appreciate what a true friend or loved one is all about :)
I sing this song and candle on the water to my baby girl and she just stares at me in the cutest little way. One of those amazing moments in life. Great Movie Too!
Helen...you are still the best singer I've known !!!! Great music...great songs..great movies.....Really miss you.... I play your albums all the time....
It's so sad that kids these days don't have appreciation and interest for great movies like this. I was at the library the other day and a young father and his 5-year-old daugter were looking in the videos. He picked up Petes dragon from the rack and asked her if she wanted to watch it and she said no, then he started to argue w/her about how it was his and her mother's favorite movie or whatever. I feel like kids watch too much spongebob crap to know what real entertainment is.
@artist4christ26 Naww can't you have the best of both worlds, Miley style? XD Stop saying crap like 'real entertainment' everything is good, just to different people.
I introdueced this movie to my 4 year old daughter and now this is the song she wants to sing at bedtime....and she gets so made if I don't do it with her :D
I've never seen this movie, but when I was very little the local library had a cassette tape and book of lyrics featuring Disney songs I'd always rent and it included this song. For years, I found myself humming the song but not remembering the lyrics or where I'd heard the song from. Now I've found it and really need to see this movie.
Oh my childhood. Classics like this make me want to go back 15 years, when all we cared about was going to school, making friends, and enjoying the innocence of our youth.
Haha, I had the GREATEST dream about this movie last night. I was at the lighthouse, and Nora just kept hugging me and hugging me, and offering me chowder. Her dad was of course, drunk. I went to talk to him, hahaha! Nora pulled me out of the room gently, and didn't scold me, but I could tell I did something wrong. Then the characters from Bedknobs and Broomsticks came and started doing magic. lololol, it was SO weird!
My favorite childhood dream that I still remember is building sand castles with Nils Holgersson when I was about 4 and had just been introduced to colour tv ;-)
As for Elliot, my aunt who used to babysit me and my cousin a lot had three (3) videos: Dumbo, Pete's dragon and Son of godzilla. My cousin thought Dumbo was childish so we must have watched Pete's dragon at least 50 times! That one video was all we needed :-)
My favorite line is when she sings: "It's clear, that friends can be different. Yes, I understand you know." She thinks he's speaking figuratively when he's really being literal.
That line gets me every time! It's so simple, and so rife with meaning. "I understand you" can mean "I understand what you're saying" (that is, she understands his description of the dragon) or it can mean "I understand you as a person"- she sees what he's all about, and why it was necessary for him to create this "imaginary" companion to cope with the trauma he's been through.
@cherryblossom013579 When I first saw it (well, saw it for the first time in probably 20 years), I cried too. I was like WTF is wrong with me!!?? It was weird.
I saw this in Sandusky Ohio in 1977 at the theater downtown Sandusky. I loved it then and still do. I caught myself singing Candle on the Water and Brazzle Dazzle Day at my job. I just had to look up this on youtube because it's been on my mind. What ever happened to the actor who played Pete?
I know what u mean zakiechan this song brings a tear to my eye also it's also true that it's not easy finding a friend or someone who will listen to u
@DVDFreaker well considering the fact that when I saw the film it was like 18 years after it had been originally released and I was only a little kid...How many little kids do you know that are familiar with Helen Reddy plus I know her now!! And Who the fuck are you anyways?
I really like how Pete goes from the silly description of the dragon to the serious life lesson of how life isn't easy alone. It makes this movie all the better!
This was mine and my partners FAVOURITE movie growing up. We didn't relise this till i brought it and put it on for our two kids........and guess what their favourite movie is now! Love singing along with my kids to the songs that made me so happy as a child.....just the best feeling!
I LOVE this song!! Even though the lyrics are sung with a child's melody, the Lyrics are soooo adult, man, this song touches my heart! No, "it's not easy" to find that ever elusive "soul mate"!
love this song. it just helps me believe that love can cure all (even abuse). for me growing up this tape got so much play i'm surprised it still works. thanks for posting this
To it now, I am amazed because that deep ache that used to fill my heart has been replaced with the immense love that I have for my husband, who has loved and supported me even when it wasn't easy. God bless the people who made this beautiful movie, and everyone who has been touched by this song, and any of the songs from this movie for that matter.
Thank you for posting this. When I was a little girl, my world was a very, VERY dark place. I had a little tape recorder and I recorded this song off of the tv. It used to make me cry so hard. I would wish that I could have someone who would love and care for me the way Nora does for Pete. I think this movie resonated a lot with me as a child because (regardless of how gently they talk about it) Pete was running away from abusive people and found a place where he belonged. When I listen t
Interesting. I used to HATE this movie! A few months ago, I finally decided to give this movie a chance, and now I LOVE it! Elliott is hilarious, Helen Reddy is extremely talented with the singing voice of an angel, Mickey Rooney is an interesting drunk, and Pete has the most unusual friend in the world.
....When I was about 3, I used to watch this film and I thought Nora (thats her name right? XD) said "Its not easy, to find magical pears" as in the fruit XD
I still love the disney classics like this. I plan on buying it on dvd sometime. Tomorrow i will start the hunt for Nightmare On Elm Street. And Beauty And The Beast. Both of which will be at meijer. I plan of getting one of both this week.
I am 28 and I can assure you: you´ll keep that love. I think the old Disney movies are just timeless and appeal to every age because they actually deal with issues of real life. I miss those kind of movies...

i brought this movie for my mom on Valentines day. because this is something special for us. Since i grew up on musical's like this. And i played it for my daughter, she stood near the tv and danced to the music..it was so cute since she is only 1 year 9 months
Nora: u got to tend it, fan it. Pete: that's what I plan to do. Oh, I had one friend by my side, now I have two, him and you. Nora: Him & Me. Both: and it's so easy.
Nora: It's clear, that friedns can be different, yes I understand you now. Both: it's not easy, to find someone who cares, it's not easy, to find Magic in pairs. Nora: Now that you have him, hold him, treasure him from day to day, it's so easy. Life is lollipops & raindrops, with the one you love. Someone u can always be with, argue & agree with. Pete: Climb the highest tree with. Both: It's so easy, to share somebody's dream, it gets easy, when u work as a team. (last of lyrics in next comment)
Pete: *sings* He has the head of a camel, then neck of a crocodile. Nora: It sounds rather strange. Pete: He's both a fish & a mamal, and I hope he'll never change, cause it's not easy, to find someone who cares. Nora: It's not easy, to find Magic in pairs. Pete: I'm glad I found him, I love him, I won't let him get away, cause it's not easy. Nora: You say, the head of a camel, the neck of a crocodile, Pete: and the ears of a cow! (continued in next comment)
i may not exactly be old enough 2 drive...but ive seen it b4 when i was smaller and now im the only 1 in my fam who remember/like it. thatss just sad.
this is by far the best disney movie out there and there will ever be. When i was little i used to watch this movie OVER and OVER again with my dad.I watched it soo many times the top of the movie was fuzzy(: ha.this movie is amazing and it will never die(:
I'm gonna get this movie again and try again to upload it in parts for everyone to see the movie. If there is anyone who does just leave a comment on my channel.
When I was a child I got in trouble in Kindergarten for not letting any other kids under the slide because "Elliot the dragon" was under there. Many Many years later I still pretend he's around sometimes,
I grew up in 50's with many great Disney movies BUT this bypasses all movies ever! QUALITY child and adult entertainment. Don't be misled by the dragon. A very clever and touching presentation having huge stars, adult hidden humor, fine music, and laughs.
We need this type of movie in the lives of our youngsters again. Imagine a movie with no murder and no "F" words. And still a riot and fun!!!
@wendydale1 I have a three week old baby boy and cant wait till he is old enough to watch this. I loved this film as a child. Probably the best childrens film ever.
They don't make movies like this anymore. Clever, funny, and unbeatably original...with a female lead who is both nurturing and feminine without sacrificing her innate kick-assedness.
my mam told me when i was 3 year old i used to have this film playing over and over - and this went on till i was 5. just watched it again and i still remember all the words. and it was easy!! lol

absolutely. None of the new Disney musicals have any of the memorability of the older ones. I miss the Sherman brothers and the others terribly.

Nora: u got to tend it, fan it. Pete: that's what I plan to do. Oh, I had one friend by my side, now I have two, him and you. Nora: Him & Me. Both: and it's so easy.
BigMatt39 1 year ago 3

Nora: So, YOUR the boy with the dragon! Pete: Yup
Nora: Well, where is he?
Pete: Down in the cave.
Nora: That's interesing. I've never known anyone with a dragon before what does he look like?
Pete: Just a plain, ordinary dragon.
Nora: How plain? How Ordinary?
(Music begins & here r lyrics in next comment)

They don't make movies like this anymore. Clever, funny, and unbeatably original...with a female lead who is both nurturing and feminine without sacrificing her innate kick-assedness.
