  • The sound of Emma Maersk loaded to the brim with weed and bacon, ploughing through the Pacific in search of nothing in particular...

  • I'm going to build a small lego city... put this song on and stomp that city to shit!

  • This is what plays in my head when I go on a murderous rampage because "peoples didn't let go's of my ego's"

  • a mentally induced high.

  • listen to the beginning and skip towards the end and it totally speeds up hahaha

  • It may be mostly one note, but what a note !

  • @kain1ful For some reason that is one of the coolest thing I've ever heard. You made my day.

  • am I the only one who's turned on by this?

  • this song seems to be very repetitive..

  • @KrazzyKripples i think it's 'cause they want to achieve the hypnotic effect and have you drawn in and absorbed as much as possible, shattering your brain cells with this bludgeoning beat to the point where you actually start enjoying it and develop a craving for more. at least that's what always makes me come back for me.

  • @excommunicatio one of the reasons i love Lightning Bolt so much

  • @KrazzyKripples

Simplicity is more effective than anything else, not to mention that simple ideas executed well are more likely to influence people than a wash of complicated shit.

  • @KrazzyKripples it's not repetitive,it's simple,and simplicity is just amazing.

  • DAT BASS

  • this song makes my face do this XD cause its so epic

  • Sexy music

  • Heavier than dark matter.

  • please make sure to pick up yer face after hearing this.

  • @SomRandomLoiterer189

  • i can feel my heart slowing to the tempo of this song as the drugs slowly kick in

  • This is the sound of Gods' fart sped up 700%

  • @Zeinzu2 Oh, boy, you just discovr'd the way Mammoth was born...an indigestion

  • Comment removed

  • Pelican....kinda like Isis sans vocals with less inventive guitar lines and WAY too much repetition to be considered creative. You can crucity me now.

  • @redshaftedflicker I'm crucitying you right now.

  • @redshaftedflicker Pelican's older stuff (like Austalasia) does have its merits though.

  • @redshaftedflicker i'm not trying to start an arguement with you..but why pick their most repetitive song to make this claim on?

EVERYONE who knows pelican knows that this song is nothing but repetition of that one heavy riff. (why we like it)

like @darkstrangely said...other albums such as Australasia don't follow this same pattern..this album was clearly meant to be repetitive. I would even say that looking at the band as a whole, the albums they've put out..they cover a wide range of sounds.

  • @redshaftedflicker To be honest the lack of vocals is one very large reason why I like Pelican (and why I like them much more than Isis). As much as Isis have great musical elements (noone would question that), the vocals actually really irritate me and distract from the brilliance of Aaron Turner's guitar work IMO.

  • @andrewwowk you may or may not notice no one has liked your comment...........fail. isis rip

  • @scrazza I wasn't posting my comment to get likes. I was just stating my opinion. Relax, dude.

  • @scrazza the guy's just got a like from me, since my opinion is pretty much the same. so your statement is now invalid.

  • "

Mammoth" is too humble a name for this!

  • this is fucking yes

  • Justin Bieber was slayed at 0:35.

  • That bar of 5/16 is the best thing to break this up. I wish the suspension bridge comment was still the top rated. That was gold =)

  • Massive, like a mammoth

  • check out (high dependency unit - masd)

  • all hail to this sludge metal masterpiece

  • I have a black girlfriend that is a major fan to rap and hip hop...I slow fuck her to this song and she said it was amaZZZZINGGGG...XD

  • this is real music. fuck that bieber bullshit!!

  • @esprawnso

    amen.

  • this track is a bit fast for me

  • @krampusz

    lol :D

  • Once upon a time , there was a Mammoth .His name was CHUGCHUGCHUGCHUGCHUGCHUG

  • @sobek914 you're an asshole!

  • Pelican's music is like a huge building thats grown it's own legs and decided to go for a stroll through downtown

  • @twinspark435 Great way to explain it dude.

  • @twinspark435 I gave this a thumb just because you said "take a stroll"

  • @twinspark435

Howl's Moving Castle in sonic form? KILLER!!!

  • @twinspark435 This is the best description of Pelican I have ever heard.

  • @MonolithImmortal It truely is

  • @twinspark435 lol awesome.

  • This is Satantic Music,,,, anyone that listens to this will have to answer to Joesph Smith

  • @bsabbath55 bahahaha

  • @bsabbath55 i will punch Joseph Smith right in the ovaries!

  • I just recently saw a rad band live called ATOMIS. They dont sound like pelican, but they state them as one of their biggest influences. I believe in sharing great music I find with others! :) If you like Pelican you might dig them .Check out: atomis.bandcamp. com It's their first free download. I actually hadn't heard of Pelican until I checked them out after seeing Atomis. Hope you enjoy, I think they are going to do well!

  • my friend just reccomended them to me... i am not dissapointed!

    thrash your fucking head!

  • I have to agree with whoever said this before me.

When i saw Pelican live, it was soooo disappointing. The club was so small and the fucking sound engineer decided that everybody needed to be deaf and not hear anything clearly at all. Im pretty sure he wasn't using a SPL meter. I usually pack earplugs JIC, but forgot this night..

From what I could actaully HEAR, they were great.

And it wasn't just Pelican that the sound engineer fucked up, it was the opening bands too. same problem.

  • 8 people puked their insides out for disliking this...

  • Seriously, make music, love, art. Art is expression, this just shows it. It's art, it's music, not platic material. Love music, love what you do, don't sell yourself. Pelican is magnificent. It is expression through music, art. It rocks :). This is the real music. Let it be heard, appreciated, felt.

    Pelican, a great band

  • this is what is sounds like when the universe rips apart

  • This is written in Drop METAL.

  • I enjoy how Pelican oscillates through the spectrum, fascilitating the journey through the valleys and over the peaks.

  • im twelve and what is this?

  • @generalten Post Metal

  • @marsvoltian ik dude, it was a joke :P

  • @generalten Well now your comment is funny =)

  • how come when i write songs that only use one chord for a while they don't sound nearly as badass?

  • @TomMark182 i think what makes this song so great is the rhythm, the fact it's in B tuning(low/heavy), the switching between a full low-b power chord and an octave chord, and the drums.

The drums play a pretty big part in giving it that heavy sound. Listen to the change from the 1:10 riff to the 1:45 riff

It's the build up to that heavy 'drop'

  • $KILLZ 2 PAY THE BILLZ!!!!!!-RICHARD J. LOTT

  • This song is so heavy, it creates a f*cking gravity field!

  • i dont think ive ever been more excited about ever learning and listening to a new band as much as i am for pelican

  • @ClassicColtCabana Funny, because I feel exactly the same way. These guys are amazing.

  • Someone just emptied a dustbin of filth in my ears...in a good way.

  • I love this....they are one of my all time favorite bands!

  • Anyone who dislikes this should slap themselves until they do like it.

  • Reminds me of ISIS. Good and crushing, though. :)

  • I love how boring and repetitive it is. It helps me relax.

  • even the little hairs in my ears are headbanging.

  • Chuck Norris was born at 0:35.

  • @MercilessShred hehehe, indeed!!

  • @MercilessShred bruce lee is way better but for a white boi i will give him a little tiny bit of credit. for christ sakes he wrote his own theme song

  • @silverstonedwolf1 I actually agree with you that Bruce Lee is better.

  • I like pink mammoth even better than mammoth!

  • FFS TOUR AUSTRALIA

  • at 0:35, you hear that? that's the auditory equivalent of a large blunt metal object making contact with your face.....

  • This song makes my soul bleed. It's beautiful

  • :35 involuntary headbang COMMENCE

  • That's a nice dance tune ....it's gotta lotta Donna Summer in it.

  • When you find a note that heavy, fucking stick with it.

  • Tuned to B apparently? Armour plated Rhino testicals heavy.

  • I just Uploaded Pelican's 2007 remake of this song called "Pink Mammoth". Go to my channel to check it out, please thumbs up to spread the work. thanks

  • I have the remake of this song called "Pink Mammoth" by pelican. its a major key version, and it is BEAUTIFUL. just let me know if you want me to upload it.

  • @85matt85 please upload

  • @85matt85 ty

  • Like, describing my come up on mescaline. fight that nausea. so fucking heavy

  • never search "pink mammoth" on youtube without "pelican" too. you might not like what you find... then again, MAYBE you will.

  • Saw these guys last night for the 10th Anniversary show. This was the closer. Heavy as fuck \m/

  • @IXIBathoryIXI was there too! they were great!

  • @thichquangduc85 If it weren't for music making people feel uncomfortable, we wouldn't make any progress. Have you heard of classical music riots?

  • post rock is a genre, it is the best genre, and this DOES belong in that genre!!!!!! as does ITTCT, 65DOS, Russian Circles, Caspian, Red Sparrow, GIAA, etc....

  • @cashflowization

pelican is indeed "post", but definitley not rock

  • not so much a fan of the band but pelicans are my favorite godamn animal

  • what genre does this lie under?

  • @chibixaileen Sludge, doom, stonermetal, ambience,... Just this particular song though they have way softer songs...

  • Like finnish metal....little bit trying to go america.......metallica .....aaaaaah

  • ...just rocking and rolling deep strong tight and slow, like big big wave that never ends...

  • theres no reason to explain music theory bands have just tottaly anally raped any kind of genre in these past decade that there is no reason to classify any band as a genre just take it how it is MUSIC

  • They sound dangeroulsy good!

  • I love that guitars :)

  • you suck huge cock for disabling the embed option.

  • I remember buying this cd in a record store in Florida a long time ago and playing it on the ocean every day.

  • @MickeyLBrown

    They are post-metal you noob

  • Rumour has it Pelican strings their guitars with steel cables from suspension bridges.

  • @ButtersGettingHard And they stuff their trousers with sausage.

  • @ButtersGettingHard HAHAHAHA 3,068 guage strings

  • @ButtersGettingHard I heard Pelican use the Hoover Dam as an amplifier.

  • @ButtersGettingHard What about their bass(es)?

  • Looking at the comments everyone seems to know so much about musical theory, I don't. Is it okay that I love this but can't explain why? :D

  • @tweek1133 Yes.

  • @tweek1133 It is. And if you didnt already know, this genre of music is has also been coined as "Thinking mans metal". I think that people that are naturally more intellectual are just drawn to this like a Fly is to a light. If you like this check "Isis" and "Russian Circles".

  • @85matt85 Delicious. I know Isis I think, are they that Eqyption death metal band? ...If so I don't really like them, I'll check out Russian Circles though, thanks :)

  • @tweek1133 You're confusing Isis with Nile.

Nile is what you described - an Egyptian tech death metal band.

  • @85matt85 Judging from your comment, it's also the pretentious man's metal. Just because you like it and you fancy yourself an intellectual does not imply anything.

  • @kniffenkniffen I'm not smart at all and i never claimed to be, i was mearly suggesting why tweek1133 might like the music. But there is some research out there that shows people with more (naturally) mathematical minds are in fact attracted to certain types of music that have mathematical characteristics.

  • Comment removed

  • @85matt85 Don't forget Red Sparowes or Mogwai, neither of them are as heavy, but both amazing instrumental post-rock/metal bands.

  • @tweek1133 Nope.

  • @tweek1133 You only need to learn about theory in order to write better songs. If you need theory to enjoy something, it's probably not worth listening to.

  • @punkmusicmetal That may be true in some instances. I do believe that a knowledge of music theory, or any theory for that matter, does increase one's ability to appreaciate the beauty of its application.

  • @tweek1133 Music Theory*

  • @tweek1133 Is it ok? Of course. Pelican fucking rules!!!!!! I am a musician, teacher, and hardcore theory geek. It doesn't matter if you know a lot about music or not. When something you hear lights you up in that way, that's what matters.

  • @tweek1133 No.

  • Does anyone know of the post-metal song where the video for it is the band playing in a desert? At the end of the music video a guy walks up to a microphone and the band stop playing. It's been irratating me for ages now.

  • @ISISbandLive That's 'Dead Between the Walls'

  • @eGreg24 Ahh thanks, I thought it might be Pelican but I looked them up and couldn't see the video.

  • Does anybody know how did they manage to tune their guitars so low :)

  • @godargh

Theres a couple of factors that I've heard of, different string gauges, certain necks help with the tension, or they could use one of those new pedals where it changes the whole guitar's tunning electronically. Or maybe Baritone guitars.

  • @turydragon Thanks man, I've replaced 6th string with bass string 0.75, and 5th with 0.60 from dunlop wylde custom heavy pack, it goes from 0.75 to 0.13, but 6th - bass string just doesnt have enough tone, sound is blurry, probably because of my cheapass crappy guitar&strings ;)

  • @godargh

I'm not a pro a tthis yet as well dude, I'm still experimenting. but maybe its a combination of everything, even the pickups. I might try higher gauge strings on my les paul and I'm working on getting a baritone les paul or Jaguar.

  • Comment removed

  • @turydragon Strings are D'Addario Jazz Medium (0.13 - 0.56), and tuning is B standard, can't paste link here. Cheers!

  • @godargh

A guitar with 24 or more frets is technically a baritone guitar, this will help with string tension and keeping tune. as far as their tuning goes I'm pretty sure they play d standard and drop c. as far as string gauge i use Ernie ball beefy when i tune to a and i use skinny top heavy bottom when tuned to c. as far as tone and that beefy sound it's all in the tubes. a tube head makes everything sound fuller and richer.

  • @vaginabat Baritone guitars have longer necks (29"?), it doesn't matter how many frets they have. Washburn used to make 25.5" scale guitars with 29 and 36 frets, but they certainly wouldn't be called baritone.

  • @tomplunket 27"...Ibanez used to make decent versions, LTD still does.

  • @tomplunket

Right, i was just saying usually baritone guitars don't have fewer than 24 frets, due to the scale length. As long as the scale is the right length any guitar can be baritone it's just the lower tuning.

    Cheers.

  • @godargh drop b with special strings :P

  • I like their newer stuff, but their early work is much heavier. This song serves as a good example of their potential to be heavy.

  • the good stuff

  • sick as hell

  • that's some sludgin' shit. this band rules

  • @thichquangduc85 who the fuck do you think you are for deciding what music should be? where is the fucking rule book of what music should be? can you get it? you fucking ignorant simpleton

go and watch fox news you piece of shit

  • @envane FALSE METAL? FALSE METAL? HOW CAN YOU EXPLAIN THAT? FALSE METAL BAHH

  • these is some incredibly heavy riffs

  • this is not only heavy, its instrumental. this is killer music to mellow out too. Its just pure power oozing out of the speakers.

  • did this show up on an LP?

  • this shit is beautifully deep (: i love it

  • Haha lame people write lame comments :)

  • my head just kerploded
