One thing that may swing the results is that Denmark may produce more goods than the US. Its public record now that 70% of spending in the US, is consumer spending, then this could also impact the ineffectiveness of the stimulus bill as the US is producing few valuable goods to sell to overseas.

On a theoretical basis.

When the economy slows down, the government should "stimulate" the economy by helping make more jobs, lowering taxes, encouraging every single person to spend the money. (this creates a deficit) - but it kick starts the economy.

Then - conversely when the economy is doing great the government should raise taxes and take in as much money as possible to pay off the debts created by the last time the government had to stimulate the economy. (i.e. pay off the deficit )

The main issue in my mind, is not that there is a Stimulus package. But how is it being used. Do you feel like the government is helping right now? I dont work for the banks, and I dont work the auto-industry - and I'm not a field mouse living in Pelosi's San Francisco. Therefore I get nothing, other than higher sales tax, a State that wont send a refund check, and everyday is doom and gloom such that I dont feel I should buy anything. All of which makes the economy worse.

Compare now - to say: a time not too long ago when a President faced with nearly the same challenges did the following:

Lowered Taxes for everyone, started the largest spending on government projects ever, so outspent our enemies they gave up without a fight. And... within 10 years DOUBLED - all the TAX INCOME to the USA.

But instead of all that TAX INCOME being used to pay off all the debt that was racked up to stimulate the economy... the next several Presidents found ways to spend it all.
