  • goddam, i simply dont understand how u get to be as good as gary novak, does anyone here those fills hes playing starting at 4:54, no one can play that shit...fuck mebs not even vinnie...mebs buddy rich..hah

  • right after 3:17...the descending bassline....omfg that is unreal fluidity from Dave Carpenter...

  • solo section at 1:44.....taste, feel, notes, everything...wow

  • @devincat

People say Holdsworth was the original Paul McCartney before Paul "died".

This went around for a while among all the other versions.

I guess Allan does have the haircut down lol.

  • Dave Carpenter was a monster player. He comps the keyboard part while playing bass line under neath.

For a truly shocking performance all the way around the Warsaw performance is mind blowing. As good as this one is, Warsaw is IT.

  • really, allan holdsworth TRIO LIVE? who is playing the very prominent keyboard part while allan is ripping up his solo?

  • @jamesha175 What you took for a very prominent keyboard part actually comes from the bass player ;)

  • @Fjord76 i hear it now thanks

  • @Fjord76

yeah, I can hear it too.

  • Wow, Holdsworth smiling!

  • i agree chad is one of my all time favs, but novak seems to float through alan's solos and create more of the vibe alan is working towards, in these shows anyway. more space or something. dont get me wrong i love it all. the conclusion is fuckin awesome!!

  • @jamvolunteer

Chad isn't dynamic enough, he's always LOUD!

  • @Samsgarden And then you have Tony Williams who played on the original recording, who is both dynamic and loud ;)

  • @boertush wait...that makes no sense at all....dynamic and loud? anyway novak fucking rules

  • @paisteguy799 I'm not a drummer so I might as well be spouting bullshit haha. Yeah Novak rules, it's just a matter of preference I guess. (but seriously check out Tony as well)

  • The precision of the rhythm section is incredible btw...

  • The genius of Holdsworth ! I've seen this trio in L.A. The best of THE best !!!

3 of the greatest fusion players and best rhytyhm sections in the business bar none.

    Marco Mendoza/Joey Heredia/Renato Neto an extreme 2nd.

    R.I.P. Dave Carpenter

  • amen AWESOME rhythm section, and i was already really impressed with jimmy and chads stuff ..

  • I wished Allan always played in this formation, this is just awesome. RIP Carpenter.

  • What, Dave Carpenter dead???

  • Amazing song... thx for upload it.

  • Novak gives it a more elastic feel even though he's right in there - I think he relates more to Holdsworth as he solos. Nothing against the other drummers, though....

  • I could swear I hear rhoads piano in there. Is that the bassist?

  • yup, it's Dave Carpenter playing chords on the bass to support the solo. RIP

  • On a six string bass you have the C string which give you higher voicings for chords while you play the lower bass line.

  • Nice to hear Novak instead of Wackerman. I just like him better with Holdsworth. CW is a great drummer, I just like Novak better in this situation. Sounds more jazz w/ him, maybe.

  • @3shiftgtr Totally agree. =D

It would not have said it better.

  • i swear this is where indie and metal/alternative sweeps combine

  • amazing !!!

  • Allan is not using his yamaha dg80!, what amp is the one on nthe video?

  • Vinnie plays every song on Secrets (1989) except for Peril Premonition, and plays Against the Clock (which has the most insane drum solo) from Wardenclyffee Tower.

  • @DBP92 I saw Holdsworth at a show w Vinnie, JJ bass, and Steve Hunt-keys in 1988. They did Non-brewed condiment, Vinnie opened with a free open form solo and then cued the band as G Husband does on the record. Vinnie's solo was super intense and so was the interplay in Devil T Hindmost. They also did the tune Maid Marion and Vinnie was twisting it every which way as a multidimensional experiment.

  • @cheezruff i envy you so much, have any recordings?

  • is dave a junky too? heard a lot of jazzer do drugs! they paly jazz but actually they rock n roller!

  • R.I.P. Dave.

I just found out about Dave's passing yesterday.

    I'm bummed out man.

    Too young.

  • Dave who?

  • Dave Carpenter. Bass.

  • Oh ok thanks. I thought he meant Dave Weckl.

I was gonna say, Weckl isn't dead. lol

  • Allan Holdsworth, a living legend...

  • R.I.P great Dave! Don't forget you...

  • I remember Allan playing his Synthaxe on this song!

  • This tune is truly beautiful; especially on the original (the cd version), the solo was magical and the tune itself was so lyrical I could almost hand my own lyrics on it. This version is cool, too, but I like the original a little better.

  • Search Lenni Kalle Taipale Trio in Google Video for Gary Novak's incredible playing for 55 minutes!

  • Colaiuta and Novak are both incredible considering they both played with Holdsworth and Corea.

  • What Holdsworth album did Vinnie play on?

  • Vinnie plays every song on Secrets (1989) except for Peril Premonition, and plays Against the Clock (which has the most insane drum solo) from Wardenclyffee Tower.

  • 6/24 dave carpenter died today from an apparent heart attack. brilliant player

  • I'm totally bummed. Holdsworth must be feeling it (and lots of others as well). :(

  • I find it funny that he's looking around while playing those chords.

  • Beautiful song with an extraordinary guitar solo. There's a little mistake while he plays those bone crushing chords (00:20), and he laughs about it (00:31). That's actual proof there's no playback ;-))

  • proof that he is human, haha

  • there is an incredible version of "water on the brain pt II" from the same concert...wish I could see video of that too...

  • gary's up there with vinnie for sure...amazing post!

  • I've seen pretty much everybody but these guy's blew me away. Gary Novak is absolutely unbelievable.....

  • everibody say thomas lang is very good because is faster!!!!NOVAK IS MORE FASTER AND EXPECIALY MUSICALLY

  • Speed isn't enough. Novak is awesome in every freaking aspect... however... Vinnie Colaiuta owns!

  • There is nobody on the planet with greater technique than Holdsworth.

  • don t focus on technic, allan is an artist and he has worked to develop his OWN technic to play his OWN music and fortunately it is much more than speed....

  • my favourite holdsworth tune . the original is on the atavachron album with tony williams on drums ..a must hear .

  • Looks like Gary Novak on drums. Sure sounds like him too! There aren't too many drummers that can play like that, and there aren't too many drummers that can play with, and keep up with Allan. Great Musicianship!!!

  • im seeing allan holdsworth tonight!, here in london!

  • Nice stuff...and a rare trio that one. Thanks for posting!

  • still a musical genius whatever he plays.

  • yep and never plays the same thing twice either, he hates repeating himself

  • Yeah..so true. That's a main difference between Holdsworth and Metheny. Sometimes Allan's solos start to sound a bit too "all-over-the-place". But most of the time it is pure genious.

  • looking glass he almost always plays this tune every concert

  • Thanks Scott!!
