just realized something... i don't keep track of how many times i read brisingr but i should... i know i have read it over 40-45 times. I just want to read Inheritance already!
I agree, he's taking way to long to give us an ending! I mean, my wife reads those Charlene Harris books, and she releases them rather fast (I know they are not epic stories like this one but still). I mean WTF!? 1 year 8 months!?!
I don't think it's fair to take the Inheritance series and compare it to LotR or Star Wars or anything else. Fantasy genre in general relies heavily on archetypal characters, situations, etc. Paolini relies upon these archetypes just as much as any other author. As for bringing Shakespeare into this... that's not even in the same genre. You can't compare apples to oranges and Mr. Shakespeare never wrote any sort of fantasy novel, to my knowledge.
I must admit, the links between star wars/LOTR is very clear in the series. But...
Star wars = most memorable sci-fi film(s) ever.
LOTR = most memorable fantasy book/film ever.
In my opinion, the inheritance cycle is a star wars based plot, with LOTR characters, locations etc. But the inheritance cycle mixes both up. Its like LOTR but easier to follow the plot and slightly more magic based...
no one said it was better because it was old. but as it has lasted so long. clearly people love it and still do. tolkein and lewis will last as shakespeare has, but i seriously doubt paolini will, at least with the body of work thus far. and what makes old bill the bard seem so terrible to you? there's far more developed and interesting characters in shakespeare; you just have to think about it and analyze it. i find, as do many, the writing complex, but brilliant and poetic and intriguing.
what makes you say shakespeare is so overrated? and paolini is by no means better. there's so much more in shakespeare, and far more complex and iconic, classic, and all that. paolini needs to improve on the way he writes and come up with more original stuff.
which just goes to show how little you know about me and unobservant you are of the conversation that has been taking place. i read paolini and by no means hate his work. i rather enjoy it to some degree, but i find other works that are more original, complex, well written, and interesting to be far more enjoyable. and speaking as a writer of fantasy and avid book reader and declared partly as an english major, i would know.
who cares about fuck norris? but shakespeare is definitely a god of writing and storytelling. paolini is young, so you cant expect him to be great. hes got a long way to go if he wants to be tolkein, but he's got a good start.
@worldtaker999 There are planty of fantasy writers that can compare themselves to tolkien. However tolkien is really an old type of story telling author.
Um......no, Christopher Paolini is a mortal who wants to be among the gods such as JRR Tolkien, C.S. Lewis, J.K. Rowling, and Stephen King. The difference between literary mortals and literary gods is that the gods are original. Taking Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, and the Dragonriders of Pern and mixing them all together is NOT original. It's pathetic.
well actually some of the other writers you mentioned are not original either. they are far better than paolini, but not quite original. tolkein's storys for instance borrow a lot from norse and celtic myth, not to mention christian tales. and rowling uses stuff from greek and norse myth as well. so they borrow as well, just from things less familiar to the public in general. and one good thing about paolini is that he does some even more obscure myth borrowing, from egyptian stuff, whichis cool
I love these books, there just so good. I thought they were so good that they inspired me to write a book, the first thing I did was thanking Christopher Paolini. So far I'm only 5 chapters into writing my book but I have friends to help me.

JRR Tolkien is the Best writing god in the world
Christopher Paolini is right below him
JK rowling sucks at writing, whats so good about a liitle gay boy riding a broom

You should try to broaden your horizons a bit. Ever read Voltaire? Shakespeare? Dostoevsky?

Agreed on Tolkien, but Paolini is nowhere near him. In top 50 fantasy authors, Tolkien is 1st and the next 49 places are empty, because he is great.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
Christopher Paolini is better than all of those writers put together.
The Lord Of The Rings books are terrible and Harry Potter is a complete joke.
Both of them are NOTHING compared to Christopher Paolini.
C.S. Lewis and Stephen King are both good writers, but still not as good.

No. Chuck Norris is a god among men.
Shakespeare is a god among men.
Paolini is just some guy who wrote a crappy book which got popular because of fantasy obsessed children.
