  • thanks, i study geology and its really handy for some of my presentations. Ty so much.

  • @aardappelpitsap - cool. ;)

  • I imported 3DS files to google sketchup, but i can't do much with them. The only thing I maneged to do with them was to scale it. What should i do?

  • @5dkuriboh hmmm... any chance to ungroup it? check out the right-mouse-button-menu ... not sure if its possible at all.

  • @techboxface the reason that it is not filled is that a) it may not be flat b) it may not be complete c) it may be crossing another line

    Hope that helped!

  • your fps is horrible

  • how do you fill in the area of a shape when the shape only has its outline and no fill- paint bucket not working on it

  • PLEASE LOOK AT THIS COMMENT: message me if you know how to create spheres and stuff that is round on this version of Google sketch-up. So far i can only create box type figures pyramids and cylinders, stuff like that. I'm trying to build a space craft on Google sketch up i see videos on YouTube were the body of the space craft is round well ho w do i get mine to look like that.Bottom point how do i make a sphere on this version of sketch up or can you not? Thanks.

  • @Kdark7 - hi, you can define of how many segments a curve is made of. draw a circle and rise the number of segments (activate the curve and check the window: element information ). than use the follow-me-tool on the circle to create a sphere... unfortunately you will have a lot of vectorpoints now... there are rubyscripts for smoothing as well... depends on what you want to do exactly, knomseng?

  • @Kdark7 I solved this by make a shpere in winges and then exporting it as a 3DS file and then import it to sketchup. You can use other programs then wings to make sphere, it should work as long as you can import it to sketchup.

  • Very helpful, thanks.

  • I just need to know how to draw a cube and use values to define its exact position on the X and Y axes. Damnit.

  • @torqtorqtorq ... if you make adjustments with your mouse, just start to draw it by mouse and than type the values you need and they will be accepted. (e.g. 10;10 to make a square)... hope that helps.

  • cool and usfull thanks but in 07:14 the blue, green, red lines are the X Y and Z exises Z means up , X means forword and backword (i think), and Y means left and right its not hard (i know it from Garry's Mod 11 for the wiremod GPS STool (i know it has S its soppose to have S in tool)

  • Always watching! My wish list would be for you to do one of these on the sketchy physics vehicle you made. Where it says "I don't know how I got it to move" I'm really having trouble assigning controllers. In fact all the fun is lost cos I can never really get it to work Knomseng!?

    MTD

  • haha. ok - i did it once... so why not. but gimme some days.

  • my answer here was not posted - censored(?).. nice. so. hope this one stays: there is no motor in su6 anymore. so i can not help you my friend.

  • To pan (with the little hand) you can push the webwell and push the left button together

  • Is there any way to get layout lines in Sketchup? Ive been drafting for almost 30 years and it is extremely difficult for me to work without layout lines for length, wide and centerline.

  • 8:50 looks like bobafet's ship!! Great vid tho.

  • thank u for making this tutorial, it was very helpfull . keep doing it

  • PLZ HALP ! how to draw an,,,ummm,,an arched level? u kno, a 3D arch? an arch that has traveled to a 3rd dimension through a path that is parallel to the level relative to which the arch is perpendicular.

  • is it necessary to draw a thick arch and push/pull that? is that the only way?

  • sorry for spamming, i'm just learning. :) it's possible to draw a level limited by an arch, push/pull that and then delete everything but the limits. :)

  • unfortunately i can not records tutorials at the moment - computerstress, knomseng.

so i ll upload a video soon without voice - hope u can follow anyway. peace.

  • depends on what kind of arch(s) you want to create.

you find the options by using your right mousebutton to subdivide all activated objects.

just cut out the stuff you dont need, knomseng?

  • awesome, thanx also. i use blender, unity, and cinema 4d, could u make some vids for those please.

  • thanks a lot, It gave me a different way of thinking how to make models in sketchup.

  • @miguelstarwars - saw your upload!

really good work man! keep it up!

  • Thank you, I decided to give sketchup another try by watching your video.

  • Very helpful. Thanks.

  • thank you sooo much to tesch me how to copy things!!!!! you just change my way to do models!!! if you want to see some of my ancient models, my googlw sketchup name is pro2go.

  • just post some of your models as a videoresponse here duuude. ;)

  • thank you!

  • Thanks!

  • Thank you man! I'm subbing for more! ^^. My brother, my best friend, and his brother, and I are beginning to develop games together and my best friend and I are going to be doing the modeling ( much more than that but it really doesn't matter right now ). I was wondering if you could tell me if Google Sketchup supports animating or not. If it does it will be much easier for us ^^. Thank you!

  • as far as i know theres no realy good animation features in sketchup. u will need "blender" - another great software - to create animations, movements and stuff like that.

  • I have noticed blender was a good animation software, but I wanted to make sure I didn't already have a decent one to start. ( Waste of bandwidth eh? ) Anyways, thank you for the vids man!

  • dude i got blender, pivot , anim8tor and sketchup but could use some help pm me sometime plz

  • i can help out with blender and sketchup. what u wanna do?

  • Great Video! Very informational. great pace. I watched some other and they are almost too slow. Only thng is don't move your mouse arounderoneously. Its distracting. Thank you so much. Its great!

  • haha, ok - thx for the feedback ;)

  • i made a kind of chicken

but is was a great tutorial

  • Thank you! Your explanations were very clear and helped a lot.

My friend and I are both new with this whole SketchUp thing. He showed it to me the other day and I just downloaded it about an hour ago. We plan on having a competition to see who can make the coolest thing. Hehe :D

  • cool! - let me see your results dudes ;)

  • I found this tutorial very helpful, not to mention that your voice was nice to listen to. I will likely revisit this tutorial several times in order to get a better grasp of this cool tool. Thank you for creating it!

  • WHERE IS THE CAPTIONS??? Respect deaf cultures!

  • ok - sorry... i think about it next time.

  • some baiscs:

scroll-wheel = zoom in and out

    scroll-wheel+shift = move cam

    push scroll-wheel down to orbit

    some rules:

never cross vectorlines. when they stay fat the vector is not closed and will not work correctly. make sure u draw on a shape by seeing a blue dot on your mouse.

activate a copy-function with the ctrl-key. a small "+" appears on your curser e.g. when u use the move- or rotation-tool.

make components or groups to arrange your project better by using the right mousebutton.

  • Easier to respect their representatives if they're not demanding and rude about their requests. "Could you add captions for the deaf, please" might be a better way of wording it, neh? Cheers.

  • why don't you make captions for it and send them?

  • oehm.. never tried this ;)

    maybe i should.

  • great tutorial.

  • its realy amazin n helpfull

  • Dude wheres The Second part it Rocks! Lova Ya xD

  • hehe. i dont know what to explain different from that, knomseng? ... no second part so far, sorry.

  • a german accent but its a good video ;)

    thx´s :)

  • thanks man that helped so much with the scale to center trick. and by the way, the red thing with the arrows is called orbit, and the hand is called pan. 100th comment woot!! lol

  • Good stuff man. Thanks for the scale tip with the ctrl and alt buttons

  • dont ask me how i recognized it ... but its very helpful ;)

  • Thanks, after i've watched the video, you really inspired me to learn more about sketch up pro...

I hope you continue making video tutorials for a lot of beginners of the sketch up..(^o^)

  • thank u - i hope to find the time for another tutorial soon. ;)

  • you really help me!! I'm a new user and have no idea what to do with those tools.. thank you sooo much!

  • happy when you are ;)

  • nice

  • Please make another tutorial. Even if you cover the same ground with a different character its amazing to watch you use the interface. Its such a natural and style and really helpful. Thanks Andre. MdS

  • Thanks for the email Andre-it was my birthday last saturday and Sketchup turned out to be the best present.. you were the icing on the cake... cant wait to find more of your talent and it is very cool how you share your creativity... MdS

    MdS

  • one of the coolest and most informative sketchup vids! i've never seen so much technique simultaneously displayed in a well laid back fashion..this one is worth watching a good few times if you are at the beginning.

  • thank you verrrry much dude - kind words ;)

  • and how do you get it to effect both componets, message me

  • onces you have created a component it appears in your libary. drag and drop it from there or just copy it.

double click the component to get "inside" to work on it. your changes will appear in all components u draged on stage before...

  • how do you mirror, sombody message me please

  • right click the object u want to mirror and read ;)

  • are you killing me

  • hehe... no?

  • i dont get, i cant get the component thing to work, when i copied a component, the changes that i did to one component didn't happened to the other component. I`ve tried it on many figures now, and it seems like it something im missing?

  • hmm. if you really made a component (make sure it is no group instead) it has to work dude...

  • I`ve got it working now, I don't understand what i did wrong earlier but its working now:) Thank you for the video btw, it helped me a lot.

  • you need to click on right click on mouse then you'll see flip along red blue or green line. Depending on where you drew your first object it will make a mirror of it.

  • Hi Andre,

Thanks for the great tutorial! It seems so easy after you have explained it.

  • damn nice tutorial with a lot of help, THANX man. this saves me a lot of time now :D

  • that was the idea - cool man!

    like it when it helps.

  • Great tutorial! Helped me a lot =D

  • u r welcome dude ;)

  • The main problem t is all connected geometrically. When you erase something you unexpect to erase details you do not to do.i do not have this problem with AutoCAD.

  • true say - u have to think different than in classic 3d-software. for me its just for sketches - the "work" have to do the experts ;) ... like you i guess.

  • I think sketchup is a very good modeling-app but there are too little informations about this great app. thanks for your basic explanations.

  • thats true dude - its good for quick ideas. it will take some days till u can convert into all the professional software... but its google dude - so the day will come, knomseng?

    kind regards from berlin ;)

  • when i delete the cube, all the white disappears even for the image i created... around this time:05:22

  • while you draw on something, make sure you have a blue dot on your tool. this shows you, that you are stil working on the shape. when u make a curve that leaves the shape all will disappear.

make sure the outlines are not fat bevore you delete the shape. hope that helped.

  • I cant find out how to mirror my objects and also where can I find my components after I make them.

  • a small addition: go to view -> toolbars -> large toolbar set so you get a toolbar at the left side of the screen wich has all the tools like scale and many more than the default bar.. this will help if you don't want to remember buttons

  • big thanx to the prophet ;)

  • Thank you for your tutorial

Helped me understand this program heaps.

and you have an awesome accent :D

    Russian or Dutch? :o

  • I am 100% sure hes german, he just kept repeating "this line will stay fett" (fett -> thick). ;)

  • hehe... nice - well i am german, yes.

  • german ;)

    cool if i helped.

  • thx great tutorial

  • nice

  • Thanks a lot, after seeing your original video I kept trying to use the 'Follow Me' tool to try and do what you did. I've got the hang of it now, thanks to this :)

  • u r welcome - cool when it helps dude ;)

  • Thank you for your efforts. Very well done, easy to follow ...Well Done

  • cool, ... feel free to show me your results as a video response maybe ;)

  • thank you
