How can we even define "human"? What does it mean to be "human"? If we can't define what it means, how can we measure other animals? We can't, and we are not supposed to measure other animals. They're in this world for their own reasons, not for ours or anyone else's.
Tilikum is an intelligent sentient creature. He is self-aware and probably feels emotions at a certain degree. To keep a creature of his size in a small tank is inherently cruel. Release Tilly to a seapen.
Help all captive animals by doing something so easy as not attending the zoo, circus etc. I feel so bad for the orcas in this video, as I feel for all animals in captivity. Orcas are made to swim the oceans and live in big families, not to live in a crowded tank.. Take a look at Lolita in Miami and try to understand what it would be like to have her life.. SAVETHEWHALES:ORG
The dorsal fin is like that due to the cartilage being weekend though over exposure to UV, caused by being in shallow pools with not enough protection from the sun. Poor thing, so wrong to keep these animals locked up like this, they belong in the wild! I hate people who are so selfish and ignorant to think this is right, there are other ways of learning about them...IT NEEDS TO STOP!!!!! Do u know how they are caught?? Its disgusting!!! And places like seaworld who breed most them are wrong, poor things being born thinking that normal...when it really isnt!!!!!
@drunknfairy1 You know dogs and cats weren't always domestic house pets. They were wild animals that were captured and bred. People don't think it's wrong to keep a dog as a pet. How is this any different than a killer whale?
@SaweeJoy The difference would be that you could never build an environment big enough to keep an orca happy and mentally stimulated... Was that actually a serious question? Haha, dogs and cats have been bred for hundreds - thousands of years to live with people and to be domesticated. Orcas have been kept in tanks since the 60s. And they are dying left right and center in tanks, not to mention they are extremely bored. Theres a huge difference between a dog and an orca... Obviously.
@Little123Fizz Well, if what you say is true, then Obviously humans just haven't had enough time to domesticate Orca yet. Just like a horse or a dog, captured Orca are no longer wild animals, maybe an unpredictable animal but what animal isn't? Orca bred in captivity are not wild animals either. They never were, because they were bred in CAPTIVITY, and they don't know the difference.
@SaweeJoy If what I say is true? It's clearly true as we haven't been breeding orcas for thousands of years. Captive orcas that were born in captivity are still very much a WILD animal. I'm not sure how much you actually know about these things, but it takes a LONG time to breed the wild out of animals. For example, Bengal cats (half domestic half wild) Must be bred for 6 generations before they are considered to be 'tame' or 'domestic'. These animals aren't stupid, they have instincts and they

@SaweeJoy Will act upon them, as orcas in captivity have displayed time and time again. And so what if humans manage to keep breeding orcas for another 100 years and they become a little more domesticated. Does that mean it's still right to keep them in a concrete box that's over 1 quintillion gallons short of their natural environment, completely devoid of all things that at natural and stimulating, besides jumping through hoops twice a day?
@SaweeJoy These animals deserved more than being a cash cow for corporate greed, would you not agree? Really, who even likes seeing such majestic, beautiful creatures slowly swimming circles in a barren concrete tank? I would much rather see them swimming free, breaching and interacting with their REAL family pods in the ocean. Actually living life the way they were meant too.
@Little123Fizz I would much rather like to see these Orca in the ocean, I think that would be absolutely amazing. It's actually one of my wish of things to do before I dye. However, It's not that often that I get the chance to go looking for Killer Whales. So, in the mean time, I will continue to visit various Sea Worlds inorder to be even remotely near my favorite animal.
@SaweeJoy Visiting marine parks is contributing to the captivity of these marine mammals. Orcas ain't put on this planet to be domesticated. They need to be free, swim in deep waters, not a shallow tank. Whatever people in Sea World may state, these animals ain't happy. If so, they wouldn't harm their trainers. Tilikum's behaviour can be explained as due to the stressful situation he's in. Somehow the people of SW just don't seem to get it. Instead, they put him in isolation. now he's depressed.
I don't feel sorry at all for the trainers who die or is hurt by these magnificent animals.. I feel sorry for the animals cause nobody seems to get the message.. Its animal cruelty at its worse to keep them in captivity... How can people be so ignorant just because of their own amusement... I hope people who watch these shows would use their brains instead of being idiots... Watch the cove and get a knowledge on the subject instead of being so fucking selfish!!

I just you to say, that you should relaly change your discription as it was in fact NOOTKA that killed the katy Tilikum was present and that Daniel dukes died of hypothermia and his death was ruled Orca not at fault. Dawn is Tilikums first kill. If you're going to write about something you might want to get your facts straight instead of branding Tilikum a murderer.
i hope they can breed alot and send some back to their natural home to swim free :( we dont need anymore in the zoos they need to be in their natural habitat, its interesting yea so go to the ocean with some binoculars. and ban hunting them in areas.
@elgranjava totally agree but the way these animals are marketed its hard for anyone with an initial interest to see this is not right. People who go to sea world are not evil haha but some of the intentions behind Sea World are not in the best interest of these animals. I mean you just have to ask yourselves how were they initially acquired to start the chain of horrors SeaWorld and other marine parks has to its name
Orlando FL. And thanks for that bit of info about the one in San Antonio, I love to find out what these kinds of parks are like all over the world. There used to be one where you could pet orcas, in Canada, but from what I understand, it was really bad for the orcas and they had to close it.
@Ichijojichan OMG somehow i stumbled on this video and read this comment...just wanted to say that about 5 years ago maybe 4? I honestly can't remember...I went to the park in Canada youre talking about...it is called marine land and I got to pet the Orcas!!!!....I have always been literally obssesed w. them so my family took me to canada to go to the park as a surprise so i could pet the orcas...it was such an amazing expierence!!!
@Ichijojichan They closed down the petting, but they still have the orcas there. You can still see Ikaika and Kiska at Marineland Canada, as well as dolphins, belugas ect
orcas don't use their sonar in the tanks they have no use for it. They do make clicks and whistles to talk to each other, but the sonar would just bounce off the tank walls and be very loud and painful to their sensitive ears. I think it was just their noises u were referring to :)
Taima is so cute. =] Wasn't really you that got her to swim away though, as she is so stubborn half the time she doesn't respond to her trainers. =] But still cute. And Tilikum's appearance was just like usual. =] A quick swim past. He hardly ever interacts, all we got from him was him sticking his tongue out at us as he swam past. =] Thanks for sharing! =]
Yeah I know she is. ^^ And she actually tossed Sumar onto the stage. The slid up and started biting him. Tekoa was raked by her, a bit too agressively, and Tina protected him, and angered Tai even more. I saw her with Malia when Malia was 8months old. And she seems very very close with her. =]
p.s I know. ^^ And it is native american. =] She is also half transient, which is probably where she gets her more agressive side. From her father Kanduke. =]
No, "Taima" it is not Nativ America as far as I know, it is Icelandic and Sumar means "summer", Trua means "believe" in Icelandic ;) which is a beautiful language =)
They dont perform for food, they are fed regardless of performance, training methods called positive reinforcement are used meaning when the orca does a behavior, it is rewarded, but when it doesnt do it, the trainer ignores it, but they are still fed regardless, these orcas are treated like royalty, it isnt the 1970s anymore when they were captured and put in shithole tanks (except lolita, tankwise atleast) they are given loads of love and attention and have strong bonds with trainers
You know you shouldn't signal the orcas. Usually the trainers tell you off for it. If an orca does a behaviour correctly it is rewarded. This is called positive rewardment. It can interfere with training if they don't have that. However it wasn't really much of a signal so it's ok. Tillikum and Taima are amazing orcas. Taima is said to be pregnant too.
I didn't realize that, thanks for the info. I wish I could have given her a fish! I do understand though, that the trainers don't know which humans might have a cold, or some other germ, so they have to keep us all away from the orcas for their protection.
