@barfbrany What made them zombies. Usually some bioweapon or something Scientists were making, but something went wrong. I don't think they showed how. We don't know if it ended happily because the first season is over but the infection hadn't ended.

The infection got into the school when a zombie was seen at the gates creating a ruckus. Some teachers went to check it out unknowingly and when a teacher assaulted it because it was not stopping, he got bit and became a zombie.
