A few years ago I found a copy of this record on ebay, and bought it so I could make my mother a CD for Xmas (because she doesn't have a turntable anymore). She cried when I gave it to her. When I was a kid she used to crank it up on the stereo most weekends while we cleaned the house on Saturday mornings. Probably the only song that could beat the hell out of the racket from the vacuum cleaner! Listening to this track, and especially the arrangements, my musical tastes start to make sense!
I heard this song played a lot on WCBS-FM in New York during 1972 and 73, before the station went oldies. I was then an agnostic, but I considered this about the hottest song I've ever heard from Anka. Now, as a Messianic Jew, I still think this is one incredible song, and I think if it were re-released it would sell very well in the now-full-grown "Praise & Worship" market. So Anka, if you're reading this, now's the time to strike. Re-release "Jubilation," and reap what you've sewn!

In I972, I lived in Erie County, Pennsylvania and I had a rooftop antenna connected to my AM radio and I could easily pull in CHUM 1050 in Toronto. I used to drive the neighbours nuts because it would interfere with their TV reception and they would complain about getting "the devil's music" coming into their TV's during their favourite programming. This song is excellent!. The comments about if it´s rock or not are out of place. That doesn´t matter, it´s good music, and I love rock. The song describes when Good and Evil touch hahaha. Jus listen and "feel" the closing part and you´ll know what I mean.
I absolutely loved this song as a kid, and I have looked for it everywhere! It is one of my favorite childhood songs and I still try to play it on the piano. Now because of your post, my kids can listen to the real version and not dad's cheesy piano rendition. Thanks!

Because he wasn't really a rocker by any stretch. The overwhelming majority of his catalogue is middle-of-the-road lite pop music, filtered through Las Vegas cabaret presentation. After this, he dove head-first into Adult Contemporary and pretty much stayed there. He made a lot of money at it, too.
Part of why this record is so great is due to the presence of Johnny Harris and his rock orchestra. They provided stellar accompaniment to a lot of hit records.
Oh my gosh--I love that song by the Flirtations. I don't know anything about Johnny Harris but it shouldn't surprise me that he was behind both of these masterpieces.
This is GREAT! I remember this tune so well! Many years ago, I saw Paul do this on the old "Midnight Special" TV show. Not only was he in fine voice, but I remember that the instrumental break at the end was just INSANE! The trumpeters were screaming impossibly high notes. The reeds sounded like a locomotive. So much power and flash! It was sensational! I wish I could see that again. But, this clip is super. And, clearly, mojofilter02, you know a lot about your topic! Thanks!

The rest was issued on a single on United Artists in 1973, as by The Johnny Harris Orchestra, titled "Johnny's Theme." The music is identical to this performance, and not a remake - it was hived off of the Paul Anka record and reissued under a different name. dime que hacias con un piano, una orquesta sinfonica, coros y una buena letra hace 40 años?
Paul Anka is a very underrated songwriter, performer and arranger. Jubilation is a vintage 70s hit. Does anyone know if you can get it in a digital format instead of vinyl?
It's on two CDs that are both out of print: "30th Anniversary Collection" on Rhino (1989) and "Vegas Style: The Best of the Late RCA and Buddah Recordings" on Taragon (2000). The former can be bought for a reasonable price, but the latter goes for upwards of $30 if you can find one.
It's hard to say, because while I can find a listing that the record exists, there is no entry for Johnny Harris either in the Billboard book of Hot 100 records 1955-2002 or the "Bubbling Under the Hot 100" book. If it couldn't manage to get in either of those charts, it wasn't a hit, it was an extremely obscure record that couldn't get arrested with regard to airplay or sales.
You can't imagine how much I have craved to listen to this song! I am 51 and this is a Quantum Leap to the Past and the best of it. PS. I have tried to get one of my local radio stations in Phoenix to play it, but perhaps NOW they will KNOW what I'm talking about.
You're welcome! Good luck getting it played on the radio now. If it isn't on the playlist, most stations will refuse to play a record, no matter how good it is, or how big it was when it was new. But I hope you can get them to take notice of how popular it is right here, right now. It'll soon have 10,000 views. That's popular in my book!
I really got into this comment. My father used to play this song in his old disc player. I still remember he had this long version in a 45 revolutions disc. I was about 5-6 years old and since then I loved this song. I still do.
After all these years the only person close to me who knew of this song is a very good friend of mine back in Mexico. It is good to know there are still some people around who appreciate good music.
Piacere!.
P.S. Thanks mojofilter02 for posting this masterpiece!.
Heard it first in 1972, and it still sounds fresh today as it did back then. GREAT performance by Paul, and a FANTASTIC arrangement by Johnny Harris. Proof that Paul Anka can ROCK!
I found this mastrerpiece at last! I couldn't believe it was Paul Anka when I heard this song for the first time. Adding a comment to what osdelced said: Cesar Costa used to made covers of Paul Anka's songs in spanish, so PA decided to sue CC, who was not only a singer but a lawyer too, so he said that thanks to those covers PA was being known not only in Mexico but all of Latinamerica. After that, they started a friendship that lasts until today. Thanks for the post.
My dad too introduced this song to me. We would play it while cleaning the house. It was always cranked so loud the house shook at times. I LOVE this song!!!
Thank you, thank you, thank you. I missed this song. I would ask my father to play it over and over, specially for the awesome instrumental second-half. I hear it again, after almost 30 years.
I wish this song would come out on CD, or on iTunes.
YES!!! I agree with OSDELCED thank you for posting this wonderful song I'm mexican and love this song too, totally remember the show on TV that is reffered...sorry for my spellin' and thank you again MOJOFILTER02 I was wanting to listen to this son for A LONG TIME!!!!!
It seems a lot of people like this song! Since the beginning of June '08, it has broken away from the pack and is now my most viewed video. And it's unbelievably popular in Mexico. I would never have guessed that Mexicans like Paul Anka so much... I don't suppose Paul Anka would have, either!
I heard Paul Anka's Jubilation 'cause mi dad buy the 45 RPM single, when in 1972 on mexican television (today Televisa) production staff used a little track of the instrumental part in a comic show with Manuel 'Loco' Valdez, Hector Lechuga and Alejandro Suarez, in the beginning and end of commercial cuts. Paul Anka has been played so much in 1960's on mexican radio stations, and sing her songs in spanish by Cesar Costa. Maybe some people can remember 'Jubilation' if remember this T.V. show. :)
I see that "Jubilation" has slipped out of the #1 position, but it remains among the most popular of all of the records I've posted. Thanks to all who have viewed it. I'm glad you have enjoyed it.
Thanks. I take lyrics of this song from internet, and made traduction to spanish. The song has a good message. Another reason for like me so much song and orchestra!!!.
Osdelced, Would you tell me where can I take lirycs of this song? I apreciate so much this song for all the remembers and of course the excelent music..

I heard this song played a lot on WCBS-FM in New York during 1972 and 73, before the station went oldies. So Anka, if you're reading this, now's the time to strike. Re-release "Jubilation," and reap what you've sewn!

YEAH!
RobertoHMV 3 years ago

Paul Anka is a very underrated songwriter, performer and arranger. Jubilation is a vintage 70s hit. Does anyone know if you can get it in a digital format instead of vinyl?
tedk49 3 years ago 3
It's on two CDs that are both out of print: "30th Anniversary Collection" on Rhino (1989) and "Vegas Style: The Best of the Late RCA and Buddah Recordings" on Taragon (2000). The former can be bought for a reasonable price, but the latter goes for upwards of $30 if you can find one.

Yes, it is the same Johnny Harris.

Great song. Hey is this the same Johnny Harris who had the 1980 disco hit Odyessey?
CirSam 3 years ago
It's hard to say, because while I can find a listing that the record exists, there is no entry for Johnny Harris either in the Billboard book of Hot 100 records 1955-2002 or the "Bubbling Under the Hot 100" book. If it couldn't manage to get in either of those charts, it wasn't a hit, it was an extremely obscure record that couldn't get arrested with regard to airplay or sales.

HERMANO!-BROTHER!-FIGLIO:
GRACIAS!-THANK YOU!-GRAZZIE!
You can't imagine how much I have craved to listen to this song! I am 51 and this is a Quantum Leap to the Past and the best of it. PS. I have tried to get one of my local radio stations in Phoenix to play it, but perhaps NOW they will KNOW what I'm talking about.
Cheers!
JLMTHH 3 years ago 2

Saludos!.:)
osdelced 3 years ago

I found this mastrerpiece at last! I couldn't believe it was Paul Anka when I heard this song for the first time. Adding a comment to what osdelced said: Cesar Costa used to made covers of Paul Anka's songs in spanish, so PA decided to sue CC, who was not only a singer but a lawyer too, so he said that thanks to those covers PA was being known not only in Mexico but all of Latinamerica. After that, they started a friendship that lasts until today. Thanks for the post.

Thanks for the upload, mate.
Even though I'm too young to have heard this when it came out, I have loved this song since the first time my dad showed it to me...
It's quality music, unlike loads of recent songs.

My dad too introduced this song to me. We would play it while cleaning the house. It was always cranked so loud the house shook at times. I LOVE this song!!!
edstarwind 3 years ago
Paul's best song in my opinion, it's got such a great arrangement but he also sings with great conviction. This is rock solid.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. I missed this song. I would ask my father to play it over and over, specially for the awesome instrumental second-half. I hear it again, after almost 30 years.
I wish this song would come out on CD, or on iTunes.

It seems a lot of people like this song! Since the beginning of June '08, it has broken away from the pack and is now my most viewed video. And it's unbelievably popular in Mexico. I would never have guessed that Mexicans like Paul Anka so much... I don't suppose Paul Anka would have, either!
mojofilter02 3 years ago
I heard Paul Anka's Jubilation 'cause mi dad buy the 45 RPM single, when in 1972 on mexican television (today Televisa) production staff used a little track of the instrumental part in a comic show with Manuel 'Loco' Valdez, Hector Lechuga and Alejandro Suarez, in the beginning and end of commercial cuts. Paul Anka has been played so much in 1960's on mexican radio stations, and sing her songs in spanish by Cesar Costa. Maybe some people can remember 'Jubilation' if remember this T.V. show. :)
osdelced 3 years ago
Thank you very much for that information!
