prodigy smodigy... you're dealing in semantics. to cite Einstein genius is 99 per cent perspiration and 1 per cent inspiration. Most 'prodigies' have practised for thousands of hours... but you can't polish a turd however hard you try....talent and hardwork= genius. no talent and hard work= nothing much.
this kid is fantastic why not leave it at that instead of being such bores.
Looks like someone can't read. Most of what I said was complimentary. This is far too mechanical for what Debussy's music actually calls for, but with more experience he'll probably be a phenomenal player. I fail to see where the jealousy is in my statement. All I said was I don't think he's a prodigy. A true prodigy would be someone who excels technically AND musically, and while he has great technique he lacks musicality, which for most people comes with age and experience.
I agree with Kwert. He's hardly a prodigy just because he can play notes. Who knows if he even cares or it's just been forced on him for one (as in pushy parents who are always out there!). It's not about his age, it's about the music. He has technique, but that doesn't really mean anything.
Listen to Gendron. Enjoy the performance and the music. Not just somebody playing something
Its very possible to be a good player for your age and not be a prodigy. Players like Yo-Yo Ma, Han-Na Chang and Shauna Rolston would be people considered prodigies.
This is quite astonishing stuff. I have performed this sonata for over 20 years and if this guy is really playing what we are hearing we have something really special here.
Mmm... I wouldn't call him a prodigy. He's a very good player, and has good technique for someone his age but this really doesn't do Debussy justice. Its too mechanical for what it should be, but he's only 11... Give him a few years to mature musically and he'll probably produce great things.
Frankly, I listened to 2 other interpretations on YouTube by renowned artists but I like this one better. It has so much spirit. Just the first few notes are enough to grab you by the collar. Bravo Oliver!
that was insanely great, but i think the beginning was a bit fast. favorite song :D

This is wonderful! Looks like you've already connected with the sorrow that the cello evokes.
