Other than the song, this ad seems very cold and flat. This does not engender warm thoughts of the holiday for me. The song at least has a nostalgic edge. I loved the MF ads with Three Mo' Tenors. If anyone has this, please post! Santa will add you to his NICE list!
This has to be one of the best commercials, ESP coming from department stores, no department store can touch this, come to think of it, even marshall fields store bags were a step above everyone elses, esp at holiday time
Wow, Marshall Field's really was a class act. It's been four years since Macy's came into town and I have NEVER stepped into a Macy's. I wait for the day that Marshall Field's comes back to State Street. fields is chicago (dot) com
you're ridiculous. anyone who blames Macy's for Marshall Fields demise does not know the facts. After Target bought Marshalls they turned it into a sort of discount department store like Kohls or JC Penny. which is why people stopped shopping there. Macy's saved Marshalls from being turned into Chicago's joke via target. Also MF's was always one of the most underperforming departments stores.
Where the fuck do you shop at JOHN91?? Please enlighten us all, your busting my chops because I didn't like Marshall Field's?? Ask anyone about their old store on State Street in Madison, Wis.-more merchandise was stole thane paid for you old wank!
Poor Management my friend-check your facts, you Ill. nancies may be hot for Blago's hair but at the end of the day you need a Minnesota man to show you how it's done.
Macy's sucks as does Marshall Fields, I loved Dillard's(no one did an end-o-season sale like they did). Dayton-Hudson is gone, best customer service anywhere!
Macy's is an overpriced K-Martlike store. We have a Nordtrom's where I live-its a decent place to shop, killer shoe sales!!!
Hudson's truly was the best, put most department stores today to shame. And for anyone who says macys saved MF, obviously u didnt live in the area and realize the diff between macys and MF. ps MF was not doing horribly, they were owned by May department stores which sealed there fate, in fact to my knowledge they were the only chain keeping May afloat with better sales and very high rated customer service as well as better brands. Macys could never touch MF, not in their wildest dreams
why couldn't macy's keep marshall field's as a seperate division? seriously, it wouldn't make a difference financially if they changed the name to macy's.
Wow. That was amazing...and I agree that Macy's sucks big-time (even for those of us in NYC)...but Field's wouldn't have survived even if Macy's hadn't acquired May. Like it or not, the fact is that MF's was consistently one of the worst-performing dept. store chains in the country. Nostalgia is great, but no one was shopping there!!
That is not true. Marshall Fields was not cheap, but no where as bad a s Macys, and had wayy better brands. Everybody from lower to upper class shopped at Marshall Fields.
I grew up with Marshall Field's and the wonderful Thanksgiving Day parades my Mom took my brother and I to as a small children. Eating lunch after the parade at Field's, the great Christmas tree (AWESOME) and wonderous ice cream cones! I can't imagine Chicago without Marshall Field's! That store is an icon to Chicago as well as myself! As a teen ager, I worked across the street at Woolworth's. What great memories!
You can't ruin a perfectly good Chicago instituion. Yet, the damn corporations have to kiss the teenyboppers' asses yet again and now 111 North State is just another store for the preteen to 24 yr. old jerks.

This must've been when MF was still owned by Target...the commercial is very Target-like.

This is actually 2 of 6 spots I helped create for Marshall Field's 2004 holiday campaign. We made them to run individually or together.
The music track is not what aired. The original track was created by Magnus Fiennes and had great energy. I have no idea who this breathy lady is.
I think the spots were a hit. Each one won an individual Telly Award.
Viva la Mashall Field's!

What agency produced these spots? Honestly, this is a genius spot that really captures the spirit of what Marshall Field's at Christmas is about.
