  • This excerpt is from the third movement of the Roland Dyens' guitar sonata "Libra Sonatine".

The performance is very fast and unclear. The tempo does not allow to perform the final glissandos. There are so many errors in the execution that is actually impossible to aprecciate the essence of the composition. The guy is killing the piece. Listen to the REAL performance [sorry for my english]:

  • Freakin Asian wizards!

  • His fingers are kung fu'ng fret bar, and and that last part 1:20 NOw ThAt's A side kick, haaaaaaaaayoooooooooooo!!

  • classical guitar kicks ass

  • Seriously. He plays good sometimes and other times it only sounds like a beginner is just fucking around with the guitar.

  • exactly aha

  • I did not like it. Had no musical meaning just rocketing many sounds in the air. Almost kills the guitar at the end.

This is not art. Especially not a virtuoso.

  • Hmm...interesting. Very fast but lacks clarity. He's playing rhythms so fast that the notes can be barely discerned from the percussive attack on the strings and it becomes more of a string-snapping competition than good music. Seems like he's trying to do too much, but i admire the time he's spent creating such unique lines!

  • Dude's no Fred Penner. Freddy works it down!

  • it is a pleier que pleis véri gudi, pleis véri uéll

  • yeah Roland Dyens...

  • 0:55 to 0:58 that line is so unique

  • musical shred fingerstyles WOW

  • those hands are creepy

  • what should that be?

  • Sloppy.

  • Show off

  • FUNNY

  • oh god ..................

  • woo nice slyed

  • just crazy !!!

  • Asians have amazing dexterity... and that's it. That's the problem.

  • to me it's sounds alomost like random tones

  • this just sounded like noise and apreggios played incredibly fast, the bit at the end was a joke aswell. why do asians always try and do things better than westerners but they always fail and ruin it.

  • I totally agree. I surprised people thing this sounds great. If playing fast made me famous on my guitar, I would've done it a long time ago. Everything needs to have the right about. This just had way to much in it.

  • and not only that, it's also sloppy, people who think this is good good, don't know how to play guitar..

  • still very fast

so it isn't as bad as you make it out

  • this is awsome

  • ugh, so much focused on speed rather than musical creativity and playing clean.

  • doesn't sound like theres much emotion in it either. more mechanical than anything else.

  • WOW

  • Awesome!!!

  • wth is this...is this a song?

  • at 1:12 it sounds like hes ripping out the strings of the guitar

  • this fucking sucked

  • lol. Pretty awful.

  • It was pretty good but what the hell was that ending???.. he was like bitch slapping his guitar *Slap**Pluck*PING*

  • look at his nail! :D

  • I'm not surprised because chinese was able to do anything

  • that was craaazzzy

  • He tried to take flamenco in a japanese direction of music.. did not succeed...

  • mm, chinese

  • Okay, asian:) But that's not the problem, he failed at what he tried, I think.

  • lol chinese lol

    lol copy

  • not hard

  • oh sorrry you're so cool.

  • then do it, fag

  • bad ending...very bad...

  • sounded like sped up Bach at first. But??? Never heard it.

  • cool, I actually think thats sounds awesome, its not as hard as it looks

  • :/..........OK? What was that?

  • :/..........OK? What was that?

  • does not sound good

  • If it doesn't play better...

  • sure he is fast i guess and maybe im missing something but it just doesnt sound very good at all...

  • em well it was fast i guess

  • at the end i thought his nails gonna break off....AAAAH!!

  • leave it to an asian

  • I told him he had much potential when i trained him....then he struck back a his master... until this day, he still looks for me to finish me in combat in my sickened state. Now that was stereotypical.

  • I'm surprised he didn't karate chop his guitar in half

  • Haha I honestly laughed so hard out loud when I saw your comment. Lol does not do that justice.

  • so did i dude lol

  • I'm glad you thought that comment was so funny! lol

  • Hey that kind of racist crap ruins it for everyone

  • it was just a joke, he is a brilliant guitarist, I was referring to the chopping of the guitar towoard the end when he started goin freestyle percussion on it about 1:20 to the end

  • haha we all knew that dude that ajtx70 guy is just a dick

  • that was..AMAZING!

  • freaky fingernails

  • Eh, sloppy

  • this wasn't soothing in the slightest..

  • ..huh!!awesome kungfu slap on guitar!!

  • Is this a Kottke piece?

  • its fuoco by roland dyens

  • guys search jean-philippe canon rock this guy is amazing

  • imagine this song for guitar hero :P

  • we'd all be dead then

  • it would be one of those unlockable songs that people will brag "I can 5-Star that".

  • wow. at the end, i thought he ripped the strings right off the guitar.

incidentally, i just bought a guitar like his for only $50

  • i actually thought it had a lot of melody. more melody than a lot of the crappy shredders or fast playing electric guitar players on the tube.

  • isn´t it supposed to be fast ?

  • finger pickin good

  • The third movement the "Fuoco"

  • this is a passage of the "Libra Sonatina" by dyens

  • HOLY FUCK!

  • It's going too fast. He should've played it slower and more controlled. This is just noise, not music.

  • lol. Right. And Beethoven was too deaf.

  • Shut up. nuff said

  • omg .... wow never seen a piece of music less melody -.- only speed sucks ^^

  • long nails hehe

  • Whooooaaa big thumb.

  • wow his fingers are sooo long! and i do think he is good! you should try playing like that!

  • some of that was musical nonsense, speed is not everything, a good example would be Satie's Gnossienne. Listen and learn.

  • anyway, he sucks. this is not music, he only throw some notes and thinks that can impress everyone with his crap music.i feel pity for the people who watch this video and the people who was watching the show. The problem isn't the guitar player but the music. waschburn if you know other musics played by this guitar player you can tell me where can i listen to them...

  • im sorry was that supposed to sound good!!!

  • scarry thumb

  • What is chinese girl saying in the mid of the video? And Why chinese and japanese people apreciate guitarrists playing fast? Playing fast doesn´t mean play well, in this case he was a disaster. He tried to do many techiques in the same music. He could be a nice guitar player but he has to learn more about music.

  • She said:

    1. his expression is so preoccupied...

    2. I feel, he enjoy himself so much...

    is there a problem Sir?

And why do u think, only the chinese and japansene people apreciate guitarrists playing fast? the Europeans not? or the Americans not? I have seen many concerts in Europe: Joe Satriani, Mark Knopfler, Steve Vai, David Gilmour, Paul McCartney ......

  • in some concerts, sometimes the guitarist plays faster, he get more screams and applause... of course, not by David... but sometimes, it's so, in particular in some Metal concerts. I think, u can understand what I say, right? 'Playing fast doesn´t mean play well'...sometimes u are right, sometimes u not...

  • and this boy is very young, what is more important, he has just made a TV show for the ordinary people for fun. no one said, he is a master and don't need to learn any more about music...

anyway, thank u for your reply:-)

  • Sorry, my first 2 replies are to 'elkukys' and 'jaychouworkatchevron'. sorry kimmchii, u are a good player:-)

  • thats one crazy long thumb he had goin on there.

  • chino de mierda anda an chupar la pija , me dan asco

  • Du Arschloch

  • wat was with the bit at the end kl song

  • beautiful song

  • what he played was melodically a crab, but tecnically quite impressive.. i'm still supporting real musicians like andy mckee and andy mongrain

  • Andy Mckee and *Erik Mongrain* just because Andy Mckee is good doesn't mean Mongrain is named Andy also!!! But one thing that is different in the two is I get a warm nice feeling when listening to Mongrain his music just makes you feel good. It is one of the unexplainable moments.

  • Bloody fuck thats good

  • Hi is very very good, but i didnt like the song at all =/

  • His sound is terrible i think...

  • i agree..

  • u sux,I agree...

  • omg hes so amazing and look at the nail on his thumb!!

  • what the hell is so amazing with this?

  • Wow....at the risk of sounding like a prick...that guy blows more that Chicago, Illinois.... sorry, he's arrogant.

  • Bit of a technical show. He gets very cocky at the end. Would make awesome film music though! And stop patronising each other you silly little fuckwits!

  • Personally, I quite enjoyed it. I'd actually like to know the guitarist's name. Anyone have any ideas? >.< What I dislike though, is people implying one needs to be better than another to criticize. C'mon kiddies, use a little of that logic.

  • I actually agree. Just because you're better or know someone who is better does not mean that he sucks. It looks like a pretty popular tv show that he is on, so he can't be that bad. And just because you "know" someone who is famous that is better, chances are that is why that person is famous.

  • hey tht tv comment isnt really a strong arguement. girls aloud, westlife, and other manufactured pieces of crap appear on popular tv everyday. this guy is very good tho. i love tht neo flamenco sound

  • uhmm estavan does, iuno how to spell his name haha

  • friggen awesome

  • its called classical, not many people have the capacity to understand it

  • why is this so amazing?

  • its called a pick...

  • What's with the really long and pointy nail on this thumb?

  • hes got realli good skill, but it doesnt sound very good Lol. sounds random

  • thats cuz asian people have no music sense...

  • That's because you have no racial sense...

  • not too bad, but sounds very "unclean." Nvm, it blows sheep nuts

  • I think that it is very clear that this dude can rock! Undoubtedly, the dude can rock

  • the boy can play but does he rock....

  • So good.

  • slamming

  • that's quite rubbish.

  • how could somthing this good get only 3 stars? alot of jealous fags out there rating good videos low

  • holy shit amazing

  • Him>You

  • His nail's are horribly long, they're probably getting caught on the strings a lot.

All in all it just sounds like shit anyway.

  • if u knew n e thing ud know that is how classical guitar players grow there finger nails for plucking the strings.and if u think this sounds like "shit" u really should never comment on n e guitar forum EVER!!!

  • I bet Esteban doesn't have girlie nails like that.

  • i seriously hope your joking.if ur comparing this guy to the guy on tv who hawks shit guitars that are like elmers glued togeather u r by far the least educated person on this forumand that is no easy feat.

  • Yes, I can tell by your spelling and grammar how highly educated you are.

  • Esteban does have nails like that..actually.

  • the start sounded like when september ends by greenday.

  • i sense a bit of Tommy Emmanuel influence.

  • stupid wasting his time playing that

  • are they fingers?

  • Niiiice.

  • This is awful. I don't understand what's so good about it. He's rushing the notes, fumbling the chords, out of time (nails too long, holding him back -- you don't need them that long to play nylon strings, whether classical or flamenco). That bit at the end is a shambles. Want to see impressive guitar check proper flamenco guitarists (Paco de Lucia, Vicente Amigo, Gerardo Nunez, Manolo Sanlucar, Tomatito)

  • heres a comment , much to my demise as i instantly become one of ypu uneducated idiots who know very little about music as a whole , but nevertheless here it is: he can hit the notes - most of the time .. (so can a lot of people) but theres no emotion there at _all_ and if you seriously play / listen to classical music then this is really of no value whatsoever. Make me feel something , dont make me think 'wow , his fingers move fast' becuause that got old with beethoven...

  • lacked any emotion or real sound if your gonna play classical dont play random classical notes :P lol its really technical but not at all something i'd listen to ever again

  • Good Technique..fuck of a lot better than mine anyway. Lacked...well any feel at all really. Kinda like a robot playing guitar. Still very impressive tho

  • He's most def been taking classical lessons since he was little. His technique is perfect...this is what happens if you actually learn to play guitar the way your supposed to.

  • impressive!

  • im dam impressed but, jesus you see the size of his nails??

  • Classic guitarists always have feminine fingers, I believe it is becuase of their gentle style of playing. Also, he would need long nails to play the strings like that.

  • Good. But not amazing. Some of the dissonance (to American listeners) probably comes from asian musical influence. I'll stick with Steve Morse or Al DeMeola

  • hes got nothing on tommy emmanuel

  • Overall good. Could use a little cleaning up and some of the progressions were awkward.

  • And I guess you could play it absolutely perfectly?

  • fuking hell that was sooooooooooo cool

  • thats how it sounds when it's done right.... to change it would make it a different song

  • I thought his righthand was a little too hard. He didn't so much pick those notes as manhandle them. As a result, this didn't really sing. The guy can technically play, but is it really all that musical? For my taste, no.

  • wow your right you should do this in your version as fast as him and post it up. of course you being the big critic you can easily do anything you think is crap.

  • not too fast in my opinion. i think some things where a little weird and not with the peice. and i wouldnt saw i was impressed unless he wrote the peice. then i would say good job.

  • Too fast in my opinion, so many harmonies ruined and cool parts of the piece and the "little things." Otherwise, good attitude and overall performance!

  • Great!

  • Nylon string classical guitars are difficult to play anyways. Damn.

  • Holy Jesus.
