So far, any cuts to the military seem to be on benefits for the armed force personnel (soldiers, etc.) Surely we can do better than that as a nation. Do we really need to have almost all the other countries hate us because of the military policies of a few warmongers running companies that profit from war?

The problem is that they are kind of right... The problem is that a lot of congressmen put in earmarks to get war plants in their district to get jobs for their own areas, so they could be reelected. Unfortunately, all the stuff they are building are essentially useless and wasteful unless there is exactly the kind of war that the devices those factories make are used, whereas roads and wind turbines are always useful.
