Few months ago my wife passed away. My kids and I, are going through a grieving period. This show opens your eyes to the realities of life. I thank Sesame Street for addressing this tough issue. Thank you
Ever since my uncle Don died, I tried really hard not to think, let alone talk, about it. However, I had so many memories about him, like for instance the time he and aunt Caterine invited us to their house for Thanksgiving, when I was exploring their backyard, I found out that it had a swing. I'm not quite sure, but I think that whoever used to live in Uncle Don's house might've had some children. But my mom thinks there might've been an adult who really liked to swing.
Incredible how even this can help not just children, but teenagers and adults, too. All my grandparents are 'gone'. And my beloved cat. My cat was not just a cat. We had a bond like no other. And I knew her my whole life since I was born in 1996. She died at the grand age of 21.
This special reminds me of when Mr. Hooper died. Big Bird was really upset by it. Sesame Street is not the same without Mr. Hooper. At least Big Bird still has his picture he drew.
The 2nd story was sad but the 3rd and 1st made me cry.. :\ If my dad died, I would feel like I'm a nobody to myself. Same feelings with my mom and brothers. I couldn't basically live without my mom and dad and brothers.
I. Hate. War. The story that really hurt was the one about the father who made it back safely but took his own life. For something to scar a person so much that they would leave behind a family...that's truly tragic. He probably saw so many horrible things that he couldn't deal with it anymore. To all the families out there with loved ones fighting for America, my prayers and my hopes are with you. Thank you.
I cried during this. One of my best friends died. It wasn't fair, I kept telling myself, she was always so strong and enthusiastic. She was like this anime character 'Haruhi Suzumiya', if you want to know, and I thought she was a legend. It broke me and my other best friends when we knew she died of leg cancer. Her parents never told her what she had been through. Then she fell into a coma. Her parents decided to pull the plug.
And then she was gone. I thought it was all my fault. I'm 12.
death happens to everyone. ive lost pets in the past, it was a little hard. i once lost a hamster who fought with another hamster and then my other hamster snuggles just disappeared all of a sudden. thank god i got a new one. =)
I cried watching his because my sister past away unexpectedly on 09/21/09 & I will never forget saying to everyone "how am I going to tell my kids their aunt has past away?" It was probable one of the hardest thing I had to do! Thank you Sesame Street for help not just the kids w/this but w/parents too!! Love you!!
I know exactly how it feels when a family member dies. Bcause last month, about a week after Easter, my aunt Cheryl died. I almost thought she was cured of her case of breast cancer, but I was wrong.
Sorry to take so long to reply. I hardly check messages on here. Thank you for your concern. My son died of a massive heart attack. He was diagnosed a diabetic at the age of 5 years old. Heart disease is one of the leading causes of death for diabetics. My life changed forever on the day he died. I miss him so much!
I don't understand why you are so against it. I have always talked about death with my children and do not shelter them from it. Some families are not lucky enough to not have to approach the subject of death. I would let all my children watch this and the youngest is 9 months.
@bobofni If you don't want him seeing this then just don't let him watch it. This is important for kids who's parents or other relatives have died, especially in the war
Where was this when my husband died in 2003? Thank heavens it is here now. Maybe it will make a difference for some of the others who had to go through the pain.
As a Hospice music therapist, this is so great to see. It's so important to talk to children about death and dying and the grieving process. This will help families cope a little easier, and also give them some tools to work with to discuss such a difficult topic. Kudos to Sesame Street!
I can't wait to watch this. I personally have never had lost someone very close to me, but I'm sure it could help in the future. I may even have my brothers watch this with me :)
@collgoff I know what you mean. I was in tears the day I watched that with my grandmother. and now, just seeing this preview of this special brings back the memory...especially since we just lost Nanny back in January.
@collgoff i had a feeling that Sesame Street would address the sensitive topic of death again, and the first thing that came to mind when i heard about this documentary was the emotional 1983 episode after Mr. Hooper passed away.
@princess7strawberry oh no, Ive never lost anyone, Im just a military wife, and you know people in this situation and you dread that you might one day be in this situation. But thank you, your very sweet :)
I heard that the "Uncle Jack" puppet was in an unfortunate washing machine accident and that was the cause of death.

I think this is good because so many people these days try to hide death from children.

Good thing sesame street has the balls to tell kids how to deal with something that is inevidable. Most shows just act like nothing ever happens.

@catbleblk where did you look it up?
musicbox193 5 months ago
@catbleblk it was implied: Rosita's dad was injured in battle and came home in a wheelchair. Only Elmo's dad came home unscathed.
