The German Army did not have the toughest soldiers. It was the Luftwaffe Fallschirmjager. That being said the German Army was still dynamic and ever changing from start to finish. The Waffen SS had only a few REALLY GOOD Divisions. Das Reich, Leibstandarte and Frundesberg. The Wiking division was good. In the Wehrmacht the joke was that the more Volk Deutsch, the less efficient.
Certainly the Germans are tough, well organized, well led fighters. They have a superb fighting hisory. The men operate individualy extremely well and operate very effectively in a team/unit configuration.

The Germans were very good at surrendering. Stalingrad, North Africa, Western Europe, Italy... total was over 1.2 million surrenedered and then, towards the end of WW2, over 2 million surrendered. Most of the German submarine fleet was sunk, their large warships (cruisers etc) too afraid to leave port, their air force shot to pieces by superior American and British pilots and then there's the murders by Germans - millions of people.
The best thing the Germans can do is sit down and shut up.

WW11, the US joined in but the tide had turned, becuse german High Command decided to open up Eastern Front. US involvment sped up the end. The German Army did not have the toughest soldiers. It was the Luftwaffe Fallschirmjager. That being said the German Army was still dynamic and ever changing from start to finish. The Waffen SS had only a few REALLY GOOD Divisions. Das Reich, Leibstandarte and Frundesberg. The Wiking division was good. In the Wehrmacht the joke was that the more Volk Deutsch, the less efficient.

The Germans were very good at surrendering. Stalingrad, North Africa, Western Europe, Italy... total was over 1.2 million surrenedered and then, towards the end of WW2, over 2 million surrendered. Most of the German submarine fleet was sunk, their large warships (cruisers etc) too afraid to leave port, their air force shot to pieces by superior American and British pilots and then there's the murders by Germans - millions of people.
The best thing the Germans can do is sit down and shut up.

I just remember readings of fightings near Stalingrad from the Russians in which they complain about some regiments from the Westerwald, recapturing their stormed Artillery a dozen times until they all were dead, thanks to the fact the Russians had ten times as many men to fight the Germans.
