  • I want to drink the water where they come from...

  • They have some hot women in the choir too.

  • I just discovered this group of talented people. I'm delighted.

  • Why do the soundboard guys constantly forget to turn on the choir's mics when the Spree performs live? It's not just this video; it happens in almost every live Spree video I've ever seen. I think I got lucky when I actually saw them in concert, 'cause I could actually HEAR the choir.

  • Perfect. It's just perfect. You can take your rappers and violence and drugs, and leave me with just the pure joy of this.

  • This has to be the best cover ever. I think the Beatles would be happy.

  • How many rock bands could cover this live with the french horn break and all?

  • YES. :D<3

  • Hola pedroganoza, nunca hay oido un cover desta? Procura Hendrix tocandola...increible!

  • nu bn coverr

  • SON LOS MEJORES =D

  • Bravazzo!

  • not bad 8/10

  • I think the Beatles would be happy with this cover. It really took the idea of the album and made it bigger then the original.

  • An EPIC beautiful assualt on the senses. Wonderfully overwhelming

  • I have but one word to say regaring this cover:

    YES.

  • Freaking amazing. Along with The Lips you must see this band live!

  • polyspree + lips would totally be my dream double bill

  • Hell yeah! You would have sore jaw muscles from smiling so much!

  • @itsjustanillusion Agreed

  • that's a lot of people :S

  • huge, and totally them - perfect cover - but does the choir at the back ever get to move off those blocks? They just look so much like they are stuck at the back and can't rock out, while Tim D hogs the whole stage...

  • Lets face it life would be so glum without the Spree!

  • Did a damn good job on the song. Kind encapsulates everything about Polyphonic Spree, even more than Light and Day.

  • I'll admit I'm a fan of The Spree. All you naysayers should think of what an honor it was for this band to be able to perform this song for the induction of The Beatles into the UK Music Hall of Fame. George Martin was even an attendee. I personally think they were the only band that could ever play this song properly.

  • GREAT cover....WOWWOWWOW!!!!

  • 1:54 1:56 HOT!,

    oh yes, a good cover : )

  • Couldn't agree more, in a burning white phosphosrus way, and yes a mgnificent cover too

  • They're all wearing their customized Snuggies I see.

  • You guys can crucify me later, but I prefer this to the original... then again, I'm a huge DeLaughter fan... and I"m kinda tired of the beatles

  • very wierd , but interesant

  • best cover i have ever seen fruking awesome!!!

  • They did a pretty good job covering this but not the best I've heard. I love the way Tim DeLaughter sings, his voice isn't incredible but it's pretty amazing still. I love the totaly lack of sanity with this band and their brass. The random french horn was purty cool too.

  • They're so crazy. I love them.

  • Awesome! I don't care what the other people say, they did a great job remaking the Beatles song.

  • wierd

  • I really enjoyed this hahaha even though I once heard that this band was a cult or something...

  • Perfecto, un cover genial, una fuerza increible, una muy buena banda... bravo

  • F@$%&N BRILLIANT!!!!!

  • The fact that they have a live horn player for those little solo bits, and that he plays it right off in tune, is worth the price of admission. The theremin-sounding thingy is nice, too.

  • @drzlecuti The theremin-sounding thingy is actually a theremin; they still had one in the ensemble at the time of this performance. :)

  • You know, usually I find these guys to be pretentious as hell but, even I have to admit this was just flat out entertaining.

  • i just love them.

  • Of course, don't get me wrong. I like me some Joy Division and such, and it would be perfectly fine if not for all the Bauhaus wannabes out there since '05 or so.

  • THIS is what I love about The Polyphonic Spree. In my opinion, they helped save pop this decade. They re-realized what made these developments in pop music so great in the first place circa Sgt. Pepper. It's fun music with character!

While there's plenty of sad, shoegazer music with whiny singers and gagworthy commercial lyrics, a few listen to the voice these people preseted near the beginning of this decade, and I hope even more do in the future.

  • obviously no comparison to the beatles.

    But. It was also aawesome!!

  • Amazing.

  • true...

no one can emmulate them succesfully

but they have the right to cover it

  • Not even Jimi Hendrix?

  • no not even Jimi Hendrix. he is a totally different style so no he should not

  • I don't see how having a "totally different style" precludes Jimi from covering Sgt. Pepper's...

  • Isn't having a totally different style the thing that makes covers so good. Like dylan covering one more cup of coffee by marley. Or the white stripes covering tegan and sara's Walking with a ghost.

  • this band is amazing

  • wow a decent Beetles cover wow good work.

  • god the amount of energy in that audience must be awesome!

  • I think, that the version by Bryan Adams is the best..(:

  • Ahhh... miss the old triping daisy stuff.... He looks like a young wayne coyne!

  • hmmm, interesting observation, i think he kinda looks like Jimmy Page :P

  • What the dickens?

  • i know all the people in the band my older sis baby sits the singers kids the singer is very nice. awesome band!

  • I love how they put the Taxman riff in to tie the reprise to it

  • okay i officially love these guys!

  • The instrument is a theremin, I believe.

  • anyone know what instrument that is at 2:26, i cant quite make it out..

  • It's called a "Theremin" they're kinda cool.

  • yeah, its a theremin, its were the idea for the synth came from. its mainly a novelty item now a days because almost every sound made by it can be made with a synth.

the theremin is very easy to play but extremely hard to master.

  • a w e s o m e. l o v e 2 s e e t h e m l i v e

  • too many people ask that question

if you are so interested then go to their website they most likely have one

  • Anyone know the name of the girl in red at 1:54ish?

  • Yes, it's Pistol Shrimp (Demetri Martin's GF)

  • I wish I was there! this looks so awesome!

  • I kinda like the Beatles' version more. here the sings sounds desperate, almost on the verge of tears

  • damn!!!! i have never heard of these guys until they were on Scrubs and wow that was good

  • This is my favorite Beatles song, and I like it more by the Polyphonic Spree.

  • Why are they all wearing Gowns? Cult?

  • its called choir attire.

  • You DARE blaspheme the Beatles? MAY YOU BE SMOTE DOWN WITH THE FLEAS OF A THOUSAND CAMELS IN THE GROIN!

That said, you're right, they do the song very well.

  • So, do you think they should open for Broken Social Scene sometime?

    ('L') `

  • Thanks for your comments,I was pissing myself laughing!

  • WOW! powerful performance. more than a cover this certanly pays obeisance to an incredible song.

  • The reason why The Polyphonic Spree provoke such a response from certain people is because they challenge people to think differently. When they see a band performing in a way not considered the norm (by themselves and by the media), the only way they know how to react is by fear - after all this is what governments do. This in turn creates Anger.

My message to these guys is, embrace your fear and you will be a whole lot better for it.

  • Perhaps. Then again, it could be just a matter of taste.

  • lol i love it when someone is right by not sugar-coating something into the wackiest philisophical thing ever.

  • Socrates would be proud of me, I know.

(All this, and modest too... XP )

  • 4 months old comment...whatever.

well for one, they creep the hell out me...no one is meant to be that happy. there music is good for certain times, like when im really down, i don't know anyone that can listen to light and day and not feel good....they even manged to turn a nirvana song (one of the most depressing bands ever) into one of joy and happiness.

i don't fear them, they just creep me out. if i meet someone that was that happy in real life it would probably creep me out too.

  • If you look back to the "cornerstone" groups, there are cover songs all over their albums. The Who, Led Zeppelin, etc. Bob Dylan's first record was all cover songs. The Rolling Stones were together for something like four years before they released an album with all their own material on it. It was common practice in the 60's and 70's for many bands to close their shows with a cover tune.

  • hey pedroganoza Jimi Hendrix also does a cover of this song ;) if you wanna check it out...

  • Damn well done, not too many bands can pull this one off.

  • Just because a band does not play on the radio, or isn't on the 'top charts', does not mean it sucks. That is so ignorant. Who cares what billboard says? Some of the best music out there you wouldn't ever hear on the radio or even see a CD out by them, you have to go looking. Good music is good music and this in fact is. Listen to more than the spree's covers. Keep your mind open.

  • Amen Missbrightside. I'm in my 50's and some of the music I hear on the radio sucks.

  • most everything on the radio sucks.

  • covers, to me, are a form of respect. i don't get why when an established group covers a song, they get railed on. homage to the beatles

  • man, for some reason this band seems to bring out anger. is it that angry people see them as hippies, which of course those types do not like. they are a group of people making honest music, how can you ever be against that? how about say fuck all of my idiotic bush and jesus ass raping views and just chill a little. I mean holy fuck, you are all so funny.(I bet you will even take me seriously huh?)

  • "Sorry, if PS is your thing then by all means go see them and enjoy. However to compare a compare a cover band to literal cornerstone groups like Floyd and The Who just demonstrates how far off base you are."

Yeah, those whole 2 covers they do occasionally makes them a cover band. Kindly STFU about shit you obviously know nothing about. :)

  • "Yeah listen to JB4375... Let's see I don't remember ever hearing Polyphonic Spree on the radio....EVER????? I wonder why that is??? Maybe because they Suck!"

lol, maybe because radio fucking sucks?

  • saw these peeps at ECHO project in ATL this year. pretty fun to watch live! and i always love a good beatles song ;)

  • Kinda reminds me of my high school production of Godspell... except not as good.

  • dynamo05, do you judge success or greatness only by amount of records sold and airplay time on commercial radio stations? If that were the case then bands like The Pixies would also be rubbish in your view? If you wanna listen to gobshite radio stations feeding the masses (read: sheep) with mindless junk all day long then do so, anyone with an educated and informed mind will catch on to the real bands out there like the Poly's , Flaming Lips etc.

  • OWNED

  • i was commenting on the fact that one should keep an open mind when listening to music. You dont have to like my comparisons. It is futile to say one bad is great and another bad , when one man's meat is always going to be anotehr man's poison. Open your mind , fuck head.

  • keep your gay perversions to yourself you twat.

  • OWNED!! and w/o even cursing

  • When I first saw PS I seriously thought they were an organized cult that sang, but now I think they would be better off on Sesame Street.

  • Give me ONE band who has never played a cover Dynamo. Fucking Bob Dylan, arguably the best songwriter of the 20th century, covered songs all the time. So did The Beatles. So did whatever wonky bands you might listen to.

  • I wonder if there is a live version of this by the actual beatles? And if its better

  • I don't think the Beatles were touring any more around this particular album had come out. So, it's pretty unlikely to find the Beatles playing this live anywhere.

  • i paid to go see them, grantedi actually paid for a festival, but they were one of the main ones i wanted ot see

  • You've never been to one of their concerts. I have seen a number of the best live bands that have ever played including Pink Floyd and The Who. This band ranks above them. They will play until the place wants them to leave and then pay whatever it takes to play another song. This video and most of the ones on youtube don't show the band in their glory. They are the best live show around. Go see them and then we'll talk.

  • Sorry, if PS is your thing then by all means go see them and enjoy. However to compare a compare a cover band to literal cornerstone groups like Floyd and The Who just demonstrates how far off base you are. Wait until Spree has at least of the following: 1) Original material on the top 100 of all time. 2) An album on Billboard for over 20 years. 3)Career spanning 4 decades. Then we'll talk.

  • they start the reprise with the riff from tax man

  • too bad that awesome song was wasted on such a crappy audience. I didn't see a single person jumping up and down!

  • they sang the song perfect

  • DAZZED CONFUSED & AMAZED! I AM O_O :D

  • Simply superb!

  • This is raw energy my friend...

  • wtf is this?

  • perfect cover

  • Hmmmm karaoke!

  • Yea, sure at Karaoke, the people play the song on instruments, right, yea, idiot.

  • This is the most perfect song for the Polyphonic Spree. Their sound seems like it comes from the drug years anyway. Beautiful!

  • I love this band. For some reason, this song makes perfect sense as a Polyphonic Spree cover. Saw them live for the first time in Denver in July & almost had a religious experience.

  • THis the most sense that the spree have ever made. superb

  • as much as i try to criticize the spree for not being this or not....I always ending smiling when I check them live or hear their tunes.

  • they look like a magical musical happy cult in those smocks... nevertheless this is awesome... i am going to see them on Aug. 1st here in Columbia. my girlfriend got the tickets for free because she works at a gym that lets bands performing at the blue note (a local venue here in Columbia, MO) work out for free... score! i think it would be hilarious to see all of them march down the street and actually take advantage of that gym... peace out, be well.

    - Ben

  • Thats pretty awesome

  • the most accurate performance of this masterpiece I've ever seen... awesome

  • lol, know what you mean about warm and fuzzy, trheyre just a really happy band

  • So THATs what happened to the cast of Godspell. I was going to go see them out of curiosity, now I know not too.

  • how can you be in a bad mood after watching a Spree video? Honestly?

I feel all warm and fuzzy now :)

  • great cover-still waiting for the new album in the uk........c'mon hurry up!

  • Excellent!

  • It'ssssssssssssssssssss sspppppppppppppppprrrrrrrrrreeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

  • i'd totally bang the spree outta some of those choir girls..

  • 'Style' or being off their tits on acid!? Either or for me its all good as they should keep the tradition up dont you know.

  • That was so awesome, i have to see them live

  • My favourite is the chior, they are always rockin out.

  • i have always liked that song by the Beatles above most others, because of how "raw" they would perform it. Polyphonic Spree totally NAILED IT doing their cover, and yes it's awesome the way the choir are just letting the music take them over, dancing so free.

  • this is why i love this band

  • I could swear their drummer WAS Ringo. Captured the style PERFECTLY.

  • they do some cool friggen covers.

  • oh, that is GENIUS, thx

  • Spreeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

  • Hey, what about the floutist? Great stuff.

  • A really great performance. And yes, the harpist rocks!

  • The harp player is head banging! I love the Spree.

  • Who better to induct the Beatles into the UK Music Hall of Fame with Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band? They've got all the instruments!

  • The Spree doing what they do best.
