Back in 1983, I bought a 6 yr old Cutting Horse, registered name Brant Bar, trained by Jim MacKay. Over the next few years on the Ontario and Quebec Cutting Horse Circuit, we all started calling him 'Barney'. He was a wonderful teaching horse for me. We won the $5000 NonPro Championship; I became a CCHA & NCHA Judge. I had Barney for 30 Years, and like the song, I cried when we put him down.
I heard of this song at a local library and it's one of those real moving tunes that stays with you awhile and thanks to youtube I bene fortunate to find this one and it's a great vocal performance Ian does on this tune and I'm sure he did that song for yerars that breougth tears to the eyes of the audience.
Have loved this song for years! I told Ian so, the one and only time I ever got to speak to him. I think it's one of a host of songs he refuses to perform anymore, but I couldn't refrain from telling how much I love this song. Sheer poetry!
Had to put down a old horse this last spring, had him with me at college as a 6 year old green broke. First year out of college just married had a summer riding job he was my main horse out of the cavy. He taught all my kids to ride. was a hard day...
Thank you sooooo much for posting this. I have been looking for this song for several years and thought it was lost forever. I had it on an old tape - now long gone - but I have never forgotten it. Love that YouTube. (and love Ian Tyson -
ian's voice sounds so good on this track.a little higher than usual, and so emotional as usual.
