  • He sure make the piano talk. You almost hear the words.

  • Thank you very much for the compliment..It really makes me feel extra good to know you enjoy it that much..

  • @cramercountrystyle Beautiful song!

  • Beautiful!

  • Thanks for all the Wonderful comments on here regarding my Father's playing! He is great! You could always order a video from him if you wanted to learn how to play like him!!

  • Beautiful..

  • @TheMoonchick I really appreciate your kind words..and hope you continue to ennjoy!

  • i love this but i do got to ask were is the drums and the little bits of guitar coming from?

  • @juggalo2237 This sound track was "cut" in a recording studio..Scott Williams, an incredible guitarist /musician/singer -played bass and guitar..Ron Wiggington -an extremely talented and versatile percussionist -played drums. -Both reside in the Winston Salem, NC area...The Videographer didn't sync with the audio -.thus some folks don't believe I'm truly playing..But I did - it is me - for whatever its worth..

  • @cramercountrystyle oh ok this is great you got some talent sir sounds just like him thanks for posting this and the percussionist and guitaris are great and don't listen to the people who say you arent playing this that just meens that you are just as good or evean better the floyd cramer xD

  • i love playing this song myself on the piano

  • It looks like this dude is not even playin this song there is a huge delay

  • @123Angelcake123 Your ignorance is showing

  • @123Angelcake123

The Videographer didn't "sync" with the Audio Track...I recorded in a studio and had somone take the Video while I played { two separate functions]- - It's me playing..but I agree with your comment..I hope to post the same song -probably no "back up"with drums, guitar,, bass..but the "sync" will be good.

  • Doug McElroy!! It sounds exactly like Floyd Cramer! Amazing and thanks for sharing!

  • @nanaslbkp -A better compliment I could never receive..Thank You..I just play what I "feel"

  • I love this. It brings back memories that I love.

  • @61narzella - I definitely know what you mean about the memories..Started for me at a Dance ( SockHop) was what "they" called the dances back in the 60's..Man, it seemed like the whole room danced when Last Date played

  • I just love Floyd Cramer's Last Date. It brings back memories of my dates. He is the best just like his music is the best.

  • 0:33 to 0:35 and 2:35 to 2:45 surely somethings wrong

  • My Aunt made a video of herself playing this song as a christmas present to her grand kids. Unfortunately she died before she could give it to them. They found the tape, and instead of it being a christmas present, they played it at her funeral. Man she sure could play that piano. I'll never forget the big smile she had on her face, while she played this song, looking right into the camera. Great song. Great memories.

  • @MrEnuffAlready That is an incredible story...

    what a gift she left..

  • @MrEnuffAlready What a bittersweet story! God bless you. I'd like to see it on here if you wouldn't mind-unless it is too personal for you. I understand.

  • @meddetect10 I don't have a copy of it, I wish I did :)

  • This was my Mothers Favorite Song, She passed away a couple a years ago and I came across this, It is so Beautiful, I can see why see loved it so much . This song is also very special to My Husband and I , this was our song way back when we were dating. no matter what we were doing , we always stopped and Danced to it. My Mother probably did too.

  • @ccocircle - I think the great songs have people dancing thru generations..

  • I love this song!!! I listen to you every night!

  • @uragoober50 - Gosh - I don't know what to say -.Thank you for such a great comment

  • I think he had a special talent and I am so glad he shared it with us. BTW what freaking morons would post a dislike on this fantastic performance?

  • I don't understand why you would say that. You must have lag because his hands look to be playing what they should be to me. Just relax and don't worrry so much about the little things, enjoy the music. It is amazingly played .

  • @softgold65 -Hey -Thanks for sticking up for me..I just play piano - I sure have a weakness when it comes to technical stuff -like -how to fix that lag time....I can Video myself with my "Flip"...It won't have my back up buds....I'll be totally Solo..but I think it'll be in "sync"....One of my daughters is on my case to get that done..Guess I better try and get another one up here. I appreciate your support :)

  • infact his right hand is playing an entirely different tune most of the way thru, unless youtube is lagging then i apologise.

  • @dnrobs I was being videoed while my playing was being recorded..The Video person never got it right from the beginning.. I don't have a clue whether anything else is causing it to lag..It seems to lag more than it did when posted almost 3 years ago.

  • what one earth was he doing with his right hand between 0.45 and 1.00

  • sigh I just can't get enough of listening and watching this video. Does it ever bother you to know we all watch you, do you ever feel self-conscious lol

  • You did a beautiful job playing, Last Date!! Enjoyed it very much!!!!

  • @melba1945 I thank You tremendously!

  • @melba1945 -Thank You very much!

  • @cramercountrystyle You are very welcome!!!

  • My dad had some of this guys records and I just love sitting and listening to his beautiful music

  • @lovethosecartwrights I appreciate your visit..What alot of people don't realize is that Floyd played many other types of music - not just Country. I hope you have many many of his records!

  • this is pretty legit i finaly learned how to play it and i like it alot!!!!

  • @DREW199417 That is just great!!

  • The man that created the 'slip note'!

  • @HighGravity1100 Yes Sir -Its referred to also as the Bent Note or Grace Note..but you probably knew that...I can recreate -but certainly didn't originate...that unique sound

  • You are so good!!!!!

  • @Nickie0016 Thank you very much!!

  • LOL I have been listening to this video months, and today I read the comments, I thought this whole time it was Floyd playing lol, thats how good you are I guess. Now I find it is not Floyd but Doug playing lol. Anyway, WOW Doug, I love your playing, I left another note today too, but I thought it was funny that all this time I thought you were Floyd Cramer playing this, I never listened to anything but this of his work, so I didn't know what he looked like LOL>

  • @softgold65

    me too :)

  • @softgold65 Gee Whiz ,..and wow! I'm truly flattered.....that compliment leaves me without words to say a proper thank you..If you haven't done so, listen to Floyd Cramer ..or his Grandson- Jason Coleman...they will REALLY impress you! I feel like I've always had that sound down deep inside - but nothing beats Genetics..Jason sounds exactly like his Grand Dad -Floyd Cramer.

  • I first heard this song through a friend, and fell in love with it. I don't know who you are thats playing, but I love watching and listening to it. You play so beautiful, I envy your talent. I play some, but I'm like a child compared to you. I love to watch your face as you play, I can tell you are into the music. Thank You for sharing this beautiful video with us, it's a gift to be able to go to youtube and listen to you play.

  • Played at my Grandma and Grandpa's funeral when I was about 4 years old. I don't remember much of that date, or year. I was not sad at the time, because I had no idea I would never get to see the ones I loved so dearly in my earliest years. Today this song brings tears to my eyes, as it's one of the most important memories I have of them. My Grandpa or uncle would always be playing this as soon as we showed up at their house for anything. I love you Grandma and Grandpa. Rest in peace.

  • @Valestrom Your comment sure says alot - about alot of things..You seem to have sweet memories..that's priceless

  • this is not floyd cramer

  • @denisjl100 Who said that is was FLoyd Cramer to begin with?

  • @denisjl100 You are 100% correct..and I never have come close to thinking I was or will ever will be as good as he was...and IS..through the recordings we are all so lucky to have available from him - .......Doug McElroy

  • @cramercountrystyle my sincere apology. i should always wear my glasses when i select my songs on you tube. i didn't realize it was a recreation til i sent the commit. it is well played, i wish i could do as well.

  • @denisjl100 Thank you...I never took offense by the way..I have to wear " reading" glasses - so I can easily identify!.

  • @cramercountrystyle ah piano. if there was any instrument i could learn it would be piano. didn't have the ambition, glad you did.

  • Simply beautiful...a very talented man...

  • @MsAngieca I appreciate your comment very much, thank You

  • I love this song! This is a very good friend of mine's favorite song.

  • Floyd plays it with words

  • @HoneynSage I THINK I know what you mean..

  • Conway twitty sang the song.

  • was my mother's favorite song

  • I simply love Floyd's music. Keep him alive....

  • @HoneynSage I agree..I'm definitly not up to his level..but hope to put some more tunes out there for those that enjoy that style as well as the songs he favored.

  • The best...this was mother's favorite. He invented the slip note...his unique sound can't be reproduced without someone saying....Ahhhh...Floyd Cramer.

  • My parents divorced when I was young and one of the few memories I have of them together is the time they went to see Floyd Crammer and Boots Randolph at The Memorial Auditorium in Raleigh, NC. This song helps me remember, once, for a short time, they were happy and loved each other.

  • @1nclady55 I saw them at the old Charlotte Coliseum in 1965..Best show I've ever seen..Brenda Lee and Chet Atkins were with Floyd and Boots.....I will say the Gatlin Brothers show in Greensboro back in 1978 I think...was just as good as far as pure quality..Just totally different music...

  • omg!this is a great song!A few months ago my grandfather asked me if i can learn how to play the song(last date by floyed cramer) on the piano and i told him that i will try to look it up on you tube:)and its a wonderful song!!!:)

  • a song that will last forever

  • Doug, Once again, GREAT JOB!!!! How about a version of San Antonio Rose?? I'm sure you could do it a lot of justice...

Also, reading some of the comments on here, there is a version of this song with words. It is sang by Conway Twitty...

THANKS AGAIN for posting the song and video... Keep up the good work!!! I'm a fan that's for sure!!!

  • @smokygman Hey Smoky...For YOU..I swear I will do by best to get San Antonio on the Tube for ya..One reason I haven't posted more songs is due to my " day job" that turns into " night job" as well..But, my main hangup has been NOT being able to get a few quality musicians to back me up...Hard to get everybody in the mood to record at the same time, but harder to coordinate just getting together..everybody is busy..SO.....look for something SOLO from me.. Hope it'll do justice-me & a Flip Camera

  • Good stuff... I remember this sone growing up and when Jim Revves was killed in a plane crash in 63 (I believe amby 65) it was a great musical loss! But to hear his music today is great and rewarding !

  • @CEBLlady1 I appreciate your visit....there were so many ageless songs written and played back then...wish I could get as jazzed about todays lyrics and music...and it's got nothing to do with my age..

  • That was just awesome! Just beautiful! I will listen to this again and again. :) Thank you for sharing. :)

  • @happy2bme02 Thank you very very much

  • That was just awesome! Just beautiful! I will listen to this again and again. :) Thank you for sharing. :)

  • truly one of the great american classics...... tks for posting.

  • @babybirdful Thanks so much taking time to listen...it's a very long version of Last Date

  • Nice and relaxed-excellent!

  • Skeeter Davis sang this song. I think she wrote the words

  • You know this song had lyrics, but I don't remember who did them.

    Started with

One hour and I'll be meeting you

I know it's goona make me blue

My heart is breaking through and through

Cause I know very well, very well, very well

This is will be my last date with you

Thant's all I can remember. I sure love it!

  • absolutely wonderful!

  • I would rip your heart if you knew the words.. and had a "Last Date.. "

  • I really like the way this sounds, but the video feed does need some work, but the Artist is flawless in his rendering, If I had five thumbs, I would give it to him!

  • This song was my dads favorite song I have to listen to it quite often as dad is not with us anymore....and does it have words? It's so beautiful like it is though.

  • reminds me being a little girl listening to Floyd Cramer with my Mammaw. Makes me smile and I always catch myself humming along. Great music and great memories!

  • SUPER!!!! De plus je recherchais cette musique depuis très longtemps, BRAVO ,

  • Love it, thanks Mom.

  • Floyd Cramer made me love piano music.

  • Man i love this song i wish i could play it

  • Now !This is what you would call good music

  • Beautiful Playing

  • @Nightcrawler70655 yahhh i know

  • You could have taught Floyd Cramer, sir. You are truly a master of your art.

  • He please send me te sheet music I hope your answer

  • You sir have a God given talent. Wow ! just beautiful, I grew up with my parent's playing Flyod Cramer and all the greats. Thank you for sharing.......

  • Beautiful..;)

  • Ey nice video, please, can you send me te sheet music please?

  • cant anyone play it like floyd

  • @BUTL3RB0NES

Yes, someone can. Mr. Cramer can. Nobody else want's to imho. I like to play it like me you want to play it like you -- just Floyd Cramer can play it like Floyd Cramer. I hope I could proofe my point.

  • How can you hear this and not shed a tear?

  • What a 'blast' from the past....a beautiful poignant piece, comjuring up those summers of the early sixties when we had so much to look forward to. Where did the time go? Thank you for posting this beautiful piece.

  • Very nice. Very nice, indeed.

  • This song touches me to the core. So much that I requested it to be played at my Dad's funeral last year. He loved old country and I knew this song would be fitting.

  • @hteamer What an appropriate song -Title as well....I would bet no one disagreed with your choice...Very sorry for your loss

  • Romance and piano at its best ! <3 Thank you for posting this vid classic.

  • @MusikBelle1 You're welcome, enjoy!

  • Thanks again for posting this video Doug!!!! I think this was the BEST song EVER WRITTEN!!!! You are such an inspiration to me and my music... PLEASE don't ever take your videos off of here... I listen to and watch your videos daily.... MANY MANY Thanks for posting!!!!!

  • Wonderful playing of a beautiful song!

  • @coastalmaine Thanks very much!..I played this in Bar Harbour about 5 years ago...That place is breath taking!

  • ... only you're not playing. Nice pretending, anyway ;-)

  • @emarc37 That was nice for you to say, but he really IS playing the piano!

  • @emarc37 I hear ya -it IS me playing..but the Video person got a little out of sync...I'll try to put one up -no backup drums or bass etc...with my Flip Video...sync should be really good..but the sound won't be nearly as " full".

  • I played this when I was young, or I tried. You play it beautifully and I'll be back to listen again. Thanks for sharing your talent and a wonderful song.

  • @bernadette203 Thank you for your kind words!

  • I don't play piano, but if I did, this is how I'd play. Great stuff.

  • this was one of my moms favorites and in suit its one of mine as well. Love you Mom

  • Beautiful and sad......A great song!

  • Just beautiful - I love it! I could listen to you play this all night.

  • Just beautiful - I love it!

  • what a great great song

    i love piano solos

  • Great job!!

  • nice playing of last date but very poor video quality.

  • @paulallen34 I appreciate the compliment of my playing --and I appreciate the input on video quality...will improve on others to come - I'll do my best..

  • @cramercountrystyle: The poor video quality is probably because of the low 240-pixel resolution. You may be able to improve it by recording with a higher pixelation on the camera. And I agree, the performance is beautiful. I've always loved this song.

  • @paulallen34 agree with you on the quality of the video, but the music speaks for itself..allen

  • @paulallen34 somones always gutta bitch about something.

  • I CAN PLAY THIS WOOT

  • Beautiful haunting melody.I miss this kind of elegance in music that is no where apparent in todays caucaphonous garbage.

  • Mr. McElroy this is off the Hook, Old School Very very Nice! Thank You!

  • @soobieblitzen Haven't heard that term in a while..Old School?? Thank you very much for listening and I AM glad you said its off the hook! Thanks so much -

  • Love it! Love it!! : )

  • @lisaclick62here I appreciate that!-!

  • My Father loved that song, he passed away in 1983, but hearing you play that brought tears & goose bumps down my arms. When I was 10 we used to go over a friends house ( Jerry Murphy) and we would sit for hours and listen to Jerry play the Piano. Songs like Last Date, Behind Closed Doors, unchained melody.... Hearing you play was a journey back to my childhood with my Fathers Smile. Thank you

  • @nightcop34 Those are very meaningful and I'm flattered that I could bring out that emotion through the song..I have Tears in Heaven ( Clapton) ....IF( by Bread)..and On the Rebound ( Floyd Cramer) on You Tube. If you just type in Doug McElroy you can pull them up...and hopefully like them as well.

  • Beautiful!!

  • @Sugaree1956 Thanks !!!

  • Bob, you played this song just like Floyd Cramer! I love it! Thanks for sharing this. You truly are gifted. I gave it 5*'s, hands down & thumbs up!! Gwen

  • @caswell1000 That is not Bob.. that is Doug McElroy!

  • wmcelroy86 I am so sorry and embarrassed. So this compliment should be for Doug McElroy. I hope you will accept my apology. Thank You, Gwen

  • @caswell1000 Thanks for the ULTIMATE compliment!! --Doug McElroy

  • @cramercountrystyle It truly is and I always loved this song. I have the sheet music from my teens. Thank you Doug (my husband is Doug, also) God Bless You! Gwen

  • the one and only Floyd Cramer. I could sit and listen to his playing all day long. there won't ever be another who could make a panio sing like he could.

  • @saannie25 You got that right...

  • Comment removed

  • i like the sound of his piano, anybody know the make or anything of it??

  • @TheXFireGuitar909

Thank you for the kind words. The piano I used is a YAMAHA grand and is in a professional recording studio. It is referred to as a "HOT" piano because it is freshly tuned by a tuning tech within hours of the start of recording -I wish I had it in my house!

  • Missing my mon...gone 10 years. She loved this song.

  • @keendog91

I'll never know why LAST DATE was /is such a powerful song . I miss my mom as well and Im sorry for your loss. Hopefully hearing this brings warm feelings to you.

  • one of my favorites..my Dad would play it on his gretch and no matter where my mom was...she knew...this was their song. Miss them both :-(

  • @MsCheyenne68

Your Dad had great taste in Guitars! - My parents were born in the early 1900's and were much older than my childhood friends -parents.( I'm adopted), and though they heard ME play it probably a thousand times -the song never " grabbed" them nor do I remember that they even had a favorite song... Your parents were fortunate to have that elevated level of communication.. May you enjoy the song for many many years to come..

  • Fantastic to hear this again. Brings back so many memories, sounds just like Floyd. Wish I could play like this!

  • @chrisann104 Glad you listened -My instructional DVD on how to play the " bent note' Floyd Cramer style -will unlock the secret to creating the unique sound. You may have a boat load of talent that is untapped!

  • i feel like shedding tears whenever i hear this beautiful tune

  • @lifeisonehugedream

Being a young guy when I first heard it on the radio - back in 1961 - I would get really strong emotions when I heard it. Only took a day or so before I had Floyd's album which I proceeded to play continously. There's just something about the way he played the song -in combination with the song itself -that was and still is extremely " moving" to many people of all ages..

  • @lifeisonehugedream Many many people get strongly moved by Last Date...I know It just knocked me over the first time I heard it on the radio..a long time ago.... it still gets to me when I hear Floyd play it ..

  • @momsher1 Blame the repeats on youtube's poor communication!

  • The most beautiful piano I have ever heard!

  • @momsher1 Thank you very very much for the fantastic compliment!!
