  • Doublewing offense has scored most points in the history of football

  • The DW is the greatest offense of all time if you want to pound the ball, get into the D-linemens faces and make defenses look ridiculous in general. Its a great ball control offense too!

  • This DW looks awesome!!!! Love the speed and misdirection.

  • I'm not a coach, but one of my hobbies since I was a kid has always been studying football strategy, and I'm shocked that more teams don't run offenses like this. It looks easy to teach and hard to defend. It doesn't look like it needs great athletes, so it evens the odds against teams with superior athletes. I wonder if those plays could be run out of the double slot (with the tight ends split out as receivers) if you wanted to merge it with a run and shoot passing game.

  • @norsemustang I also research football history and strategy, and I have wondered the same thing, not only concerning the lack of single- and double- wing offenses, but also concerning the triple option and other successful offensive philosophies. The only reason I can think of is that those offensive styles aren't "sexy." By that I mean that they aren't perceived as good all-around offenses, but more like gimmick offensive styles like the Wildcat.

  • @norsemustang Also, I am working to become a coach(i'm in college), and I'm actually trying to develop an offensive style similar to the one you described. I've been watching a lot of single and double wing spin series videos so that I can incorporate those types of plays into a more conventional, spread-based offense.

  • @kbuchanan44 The original Tiger Ellison version of the run and shoot is something I have become a fan of. It merges a wing-t/wishbone running game with a wide open passing game that would eventually evolve into the Mouse Davis version of the run and shoot. If you can find Tiger Ellison's run and shoot book online at a good price then I would recommend buying it. It's a very good read.

  • @norsemustang I think I remember reading about Ellison's offense on Wikipedia's run and shoot page. Thanks for the recommendation-I'm sure that the offense described in the book is pretty much what I was trying to come up with on my own. I'll try to find a copy of that book somewhere.

  • hey coach, why dont college teams run this??? it works. it works great...

  • @whb1965 it works great and lower levels when defenses arent as good, thats why you never see it past highschool

  • Comment removed

  • all you have to do is watch the guards they take you to the play every time

  • this offense is alright, but it can be easily stopped, every high school football team watches film, and any coach would tell your team, keep two line backers to the outside, have your defensive ends contain, and your backers can bust through those holes easily, but if your ends dont contain this will burn you all night

  • @thatskool101 "any coach would tell your team, keep 2 LB outside, have DEs contain."

    Couple of problems with this.

1)That is 4 contain (6 if you assume the CBs are outside).

If one also assumes there would be at least one saftey

That leaves all of 4 players in the box.

    2) The tightness of the formation virtually guarantees a number advantage for the offense, regardless how many defenders put to a side, b/c of pulling backside OL

There is no 'out-scheming' an offense, there is only outplaying.

  • Ha i love the double wing , on my house league team we ran it. Our RB had 38 tds on the season . I mean we were stacked but still 38 tds?

  • Oh wow that kid has got legs! Kinda reminds me of me :) Jk....I'm not THAT quick.

  • hey i gotta ask ne one playin defense, how hard is it for u guys to cover the 88 super power, because my team is now using this offense and its seems like it would work

  • @thatskool101 Thats a play. not an offense. Im pretty sure its a sweep play through the 8 hole.

  • 3 teams in the conference i played in ran a variation of it one team ran regular wing T another team run a spread wing T and the third team runs a double wing sometimes double wing shotgun and i played DT and all three variations are a nightmare espcially the double wing which in my opinion is the toughest offense to face as a DT

  • oh bud i can imagine how you feel! i was a Quarterback in the double wing lol i know all about the double teams on dt kick out cut blocks lol well i was 3rd leading rusher in my team :)

  • omfg lol that's so funny!!!

my id is on my profile! thanks! bye xoxo Lu

  • You got to love the DWT, you never know what hit ya. I hate playing against it.

  • my team is trying this offense and the coach that taught it 2 us went 52 and 18 in the past few years made it 2 the state playoffs 7 out of 8 years

  • the safty at 1:40 needs new ankles ...... sick. nice run i hate playing against it but i respect this offense

  • my team is tryin out double wing this year looks good im qb so ive been watchin films i will make it count

  • bellevue's t-wing offense is better than yours...

  • Just noticed that there were two parts to this video. The one I saw was part II. You should have stopped on 1. The biggest thing I saw was that the team that rapid was playing had very, very poor blocking skills on the run. This team here was much better against there opponent, but I guess it's all relative to who your playing. Weaker teams will always make a stronger team look better.

  • The team in my video rushed for 4200 yards and played in a CIF final. You want to see poor blocking skills so you saw them. Hardly a weak team and one of the better coached teams around. They were frustrated because they were similarly strong the year before and we beat them 42-7.

Oh and by the waaaaaaaaaay, just for shits and giggles I did the calpreps projection of my 2005 team vs. this team -

    vs. 2005 we win 42-7

    vs. 2006 we win 46-12

    vs. 2007 we win 48-10

    This teamin this film

  • Now lets try the DW team in my video against this team )project a matchup on Calpreps

    Orange 2005 vs.

    your 2005 team - Orange wins 42-6

    your 2006 team - Orange wins 44-7

I don't think there is even a need to put up the third one.

  • Rapid, saw your video and though I have to admit that your boys are good, and I only made it half way through the video, I'm not nearly as impressed as you'd like people to be. The team you played had no combination of formations, shifting or motions. That's not a flawed system, that's poor coaching. For the record, from what I saw, 3 of 5 plays were going for 5+ yards. Hardly a domination if you ask me.

  • what's the name of your school?

  • by the way tables, if 3 of 5 plays got 5 yards gainst us, then how'd they end up with 80 yards total? look at the maxpreps stats for that game.

  • oh yeah, and alot of the "bad coaching" you saw was relative because of what had happened the year before. We got inside their heads and made them over cautious. The year before we hammered them 42-7, held them to 50 yards through 3 quarters (it was 42-0 early in the 3rd) and that was against a team that rushed for 3,000 yards and had a power rating of 8.0 (not quite as good as 2005).

  • At some point you are going to have to come to terms with the fact that I don't care for you, your team, or anything that is going on in California. I don't coach there, and don't care to ever go back there. I was merely stating an opinion that you are taking way, way to personal. What do you care what I think? Let it go, please. Your emails annoying and a complete waste of my time.

  • AT some point you're going to have to come to terms with the fact that football outside of California, Texas, Ohio and Florida is, for the most part, pretty bad and you got caught talking unwarranted shit. Tell us your school so I can put it up on Calpreps and make you look foolish. Don't lie either.

  • The only thing I got "caught" doing was posting an opinion. Your rants are getting to the point of being childish now. Let it go moron, nobody cares.

  • no, you got caught talking unwarranted shit. the only thing chikldish here is you calling me a moron....let's compare and contrast...flop your team and we will put them up against Orange's 2005 team. If you don't do it then it's pretty obvious that you were just talking out of your ass.

  • Nobody cares moron!

  • And as evidence that I am totally and completely correct and that I have run circles around you and disarmed any argument you had, your final reply is just an insult. Haha, I won and I'm smarter than you.

  • rapiddominace you dont want any of the double wing im telling u

  • yeah, I do, bring it on all day.

  • Gret stuff, coach. Trying to figure out if this or the Single Wing will give my team the best chance to succeed. Also looking at Double Wing Direct Snap Offense.

  • left side corner should have hit #24

  • Coach, rapiddominace didn't say that last year Orange had a power rating of -14 and was 3-7, Westminster had a rating of +8.5 and a record of 8-4, both playing in a very weak SoCal league. Our small NorCal High School, enrollment about 650, has run the Double Wing since the mid 90's and usually plays up against schools more than twice our size. We had a power rating of 9.2 and a 9-3 record. Compare apples to apples! His negative comment about the DW shows his ignorance of football.

  • That wasn't last year that was 2005 when Orange went to the CIF finals. Orange didn't even run the double wing last year. The 2005 Orange in the video had a power rating of 21.8, went to the CIF finals with a record of 11-3

and rushed for 4200 yards...and besides, NorCal calling SoCal weak, that's rich.

  • Hey coachEspo, let's put your team from last year against Orange 2005 team into the calpreps project a matchup and see what happens.

  • rapiddominance is is a little sure of himself and a bit cocky... but I will admit his video of his defense is pretty convincing. That's okay. If you run the core plays of the double wing, you should be fine. Personally, if I wanted to stop the double wing, I'd use the Tom Landry Flex Defense, but that's just me.

  • wow awesome fakes

  • hey coach...dont listen to these folks, just give me the go head and i will round up tre', zeke, pearl, adam, dowdy, rhodes, the dawg, and everyone else and we will show them how to really run and stop the double wing

  • You get that group up and we'll take on all challenges. Boy that would be great to see all those guys suit up again. We did run a heck of a double wing!!!

  • larryharison Nice Choice in formations man you cant stop that my team runs the double wing and they cant stop us and i'm only 10 years old on my little league JV team

  • i ran the double wing t. with this form of the wing t if your defence of line is weak your better of quiting.

  • I'm not sure what you are saying here. this offense make most defensive lines look bad, and its usually the linebackers that do the damage unless your O-line is just missing assignments. Please clarify!

  • It's a great offense if you are playing against defensive tackles that are that bad, check out my vid if you want to see it stopped cold.

  • That's reall good, but you weren't playing me now were you??? Of course it can be stopped with much better athletes, but, you'll have a much harder time beating the same team if its a well coached double wing.

  • Yeah, like a well coached double wing that went to the CIF finals and rushed for 4200 yards (in Southern California), like the one in my video right? I take care of your DW. Where is this?

  • I don't think your line fires off the ball as well as the team in my video, certainly not good enough to beat what I'd be throwing at you.

  • rapid it's pretty convenient how you disabled comments on your videos.. pretty much any coach can compile a highlight film of their defense making a few good plays. the DW was eating your team up in the second video. you should have called that one "how to get whipped by the double wing"

from your posts it looks like you've been run up and down the field by a few double wings in your day... sounds like sour grapes to me

  • Yeah, it was totally eating us up to the tune of one touchdown and 80 yards. That's a real ass kicking.

We ran the double wing one year and it got crushed. As far as getting run over by the DW it happened maybe once and we haven't lost to a DW team in 5 years. This offense is a gimmick for lazy coaches who don't understand how to impliment a passing game.

The reason I disabled the comments is that you double wing people are obnoxious.

  • First time I've seen the wedge with older kids. Love it. Is this High School?

  • Great offense!
