  • I get to sing this in my Jazz band with all my friends, but it's gonna be nothing compared to Louis Jordan.

  • Joe Jackson did a nice rendition of this..

  • JACK YOU'RE DEAD

  • "Jack you dead!"

  • Louis Jordan makes 'cool' look dull, thats how cool he was. The man was a musical genius.

  • GREAT to see the man himself performing this track I always loved it.

  • Dig that recording console!

  • I liked Ken Burn's Jazz, except for 3 minutes devoted to PANNING Louie for being a "clown". Louie was one of the first to integrate things. He brought people into the jazz world, much the way Chick Corea and Weather Report did 30 years later. He took the big band motif and made jump blues, early R&B, and Rock and Roll.

"Clownin" was part of our Jim Crow country THEN. Louie was a top showman and genius at creating gems out of NOTHING.

  • This was played at my dads funeral.

    His name was Jack!

  • @SteveBraithwaite Isn't... isn't this song a bit upbeat for a funeral?

  • @wkunzelman1

It was PERFECT for my dads funeral.

He wouldn't have wanted everyone to be all morose and miserable at all!

  • Said to be the father of R&B as we know it

  • THAT WAS MUSIC!

  • Mmm, mmm, mmm... don't he look natural!

  • Lois is wonderful sax player and real good singer,

when I tired or sad, Jordan's music always helps:)

  • I love this man's music. I didn't even listen to this type of music growing up. I knew of CALDONIA, but Lord only knows where I ever heard the song. I heard BEANS AND CORNBREAD on the Malcom X soundtrack and liked it, so I went on to find more Lousi Jordan music and fell in love with it.

  • I learn of Louis Jordan through reading his bio in the "Rock & Roll Hall of Fame". He is honored there as an early influence. A well deserved recognition. I bow deeply to his royalty!

    Aloha from Hawaii,

    Thomas

  • Great Stuff. Louis was the true king of swing! Thanks for posting.

  • sadly my copy of this on 78 has a crack, but its only a small crack, and still plays fine.

  • If Jordan's music don't move you,

    There's nothing to be said.

    Better call the undertaker, 'cause

    Jack, you're dead.

  • @jmacbops HAHAHAHAHAHAHA HE AND HIS BAND THE TYMPANI FIVE PAVED THE WAY FOR ALL ROCK AND R&B BANDS THAT CAME AFTER THEM TYMPANI FIVE 4EVER!!!!!!!!!!

  • it feels like loops.

  • Love this song

  • He was one of the most talented Alto Sax players...been listening to Mr.Jordan for 30+years now and never get bored of him...

  • he was a killer diller

  • @Fatherscouse Alto is my favorite! Many others say that tenor is the best. I have to disagree.

  • @brianab31 Alto is not better than Tenor and Tenor is not better than Alto. It's completely different. Nothing to compare.

  • Love the lyrics to this...Superb song!

  • Louis Jordan is a talent that deserves to live on. His music is original, clever and expresses the culture of his time perfectly.

Can't believe that more views are recorded for his videos. Thanks for posting.

BB King did a remake of Louis Jordan's songs and made a fine job of it.

  • Raidfix I consider him along with Joe Turner and Lionel Hampton to be the forerunners of a style of music called "Jump Blues" music historians said its the uncle of rock &roll,r&b.

  • So many musicians owe the great Louis a huge debt!!

  • Louis Jordan was way cool.

  • I have this on a LaserDisc. A great song! :)

    STAY AWESOME!
