  • this song was my mantra

  • first heard this at Mariposa Folk Festival on Toronto Island in summer 1968...also Joni Mitchell, Stompin Tom Conners and a bunch of others...wish I'd recorded it so I could remember. Dylan was there but did not play.

  • "I knew that topless lady had something up her sleeve" Great line in a great song.

  • Brilliant.

  • Guess blowin up that TV gave your hair a little electrical shock ayy John?!

  • Best song ever!

  • The HAIR! The glorious, glorious HAIR!!!!

  • Spanish Pipedream

  • Very nice!!!

  • Only John Prine can make a song about an army deserter and a commercial sex worker fleeing the country joyful and uplifting.

Great mando break by Marty Stuart

  • I guess you got it now cousin ;-) haha Listen to more John Prine

  • Get the audio from this video at soundnabber doht cohm.

  • Always loved this song.

  • I love John Prine. He is great.

  • I'm in love with the bass player

  • @notaphaser -- John Prine's 2nd wife -- can type John Prine & wife to pull up "Speed" - a song she supposedly inspired -- as well as "I wish you all the best"

  • Love Marty's mullet! 80's big hair days. Great song, great video, thanks for posting.

  • yes, that is Marty

  • Great video . Haven't heard that song in a while. Lost most of my music collection in Katrina and have yet to replace all of it.

  • @LJH70122 Thats so sad my friend.

  • Banjo...excellent post...Ireland was never the same after JP hit the Isle!...Racheal! It would be hard to wake up if we were JP dreaming about her.

  • I saw Rachel Peer in the Don Everly band called ,, The Dead Cowboys '' . What happened to her? Great song.

  • In answer to the question about who the bass player is -- that's John Prine's second wife, Rachel Peer Prine. I think they were married for 6-7 years during the 1980s. I love ALL of JP's songs, but this is a favorite.

  • didn't the avett brothers do a version of this song?

  • @m5c2h Yes! As much as I adore the Avett's, their version doesn't live up to Mr. Prine's.

  • @m5c2h

Not on an CD, maybe live...maybe. I've heard them do "I'll fly away"

  • this is one of my all time favorite John Prine song.

  • Really? Ok... Spanish Pipedream. or Blow up your TV
